Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Goddaughter

The sharp scent of disinfectant filled the air, and the area in front of the elevator bustled with people.

The moment Samuel spotted Megan, he blurted out, "Little sis!" But before he could say more, a slender hand quickly covered his mouth.

"Not now. Do you still want to dig out the truth about the past or not?" Oliver warned him.

Samuel nodded obediently, and Oliver finally dropped his hand.

"Tristan, Megan, here to visit the old man?" Oliver asked casually.

Tristan gave a light smile. "Actually, we’re here to see Mrs. Lewis. Hope we’re not interrupting?"

"Not at all!" Samuel beamed. "My mom talks about Megan all the time. She’ll be thrilled you’re here."

"My mom adores her," Oliver added, somewhat proud. "Ever since Megan showed up, her health’s basically made a comeback."

Megan let out a soft laugh, covering her mouth. "Guess I’m some kind of miracle doctor then. Maybe I should drop by more."

The elevator doors chimed open, and the group stepped inside.

Seeing Samuel inch closer to Megan, Tristan subtly pulled her behind him without making a fuss.

Oliver shot Samuel a chilly look, making him awkwardly glance away and stare at the elevator buttons, lips pressed tight.

Fifteenth floor. Doors opened.

With an arm wrapped snugly around Megan’s waist, Tristan guided her toward the hospital room.

Samuel trailed behind, watching the couple. Clicking his tongue, he muttered, "Man still sees me as competition? If he knew I was Megan’s brother?"

Oliver scoffed, "You really think you’re on the same level as Tristan? Let’s be real, you’re barely even a blip to her right now."

Samuel rolled his eyes dramatically and mockingly repeated, "The only man who can stand toe-to-toe with Tristan is me." Yeah, right. Arrogant much?

His eyes drifted to Cameron, struggling with a mountain of gift boxes, and suddenly he didn’t feel so left out after all.

Inside the hospital room, the air was sweet with the fragrance of lilies.

Megan gently arranged a bunch of white lilies in the vase on the table and naturally took a seat beside the hospital bed.

Stella held her hand, her eyes brimming with affection and gratitude. "If it weren’t for you, Megan, I might not even be here now."

"Please don’t say that. You’re blessed, Mrs. Lewis. Honestly, I think you’ve brought luck to me."

Stella chuckled warmly. "You’re just too sweet, aren’t you!"

She stroked Megan’s delicate, soft hand and asked, "So? Have you thought about it? We’ve got such a connection—feels like we’ve been through life and death together, huh?"

Megan curled her lips into a smile. This wasn’t so much a question as a full-blown push in front of everyone. Two meetings and they’re soulmates now? Though, to be fair, close call with death did bond them.

Glancing back at Tristan, she raised an eyebrow slightly, silently asking, "You cool with having an extra mom?"

He just gave her a subtle smile, like he was saying, "Whatever makes you happy."

Turning back, she took a breath. That warm smile from Stella? Made it damn near impossible to say no.

"Alright... godmother," she said softly.

Stella leaned forward, hugging her and planting a kiss on her cheek. "You’re just too adorable," she gushed.

The kiss caught Megan off guard. Her eyes instinctively darted to Tristan—who was frozen stiff, face clouded with jealousy.

Zachary gave a polite cough, stepping forward. From his suit pocket, he pulled out a sleek car key and placed it in front of Megan.

"Stella has really taken a liking to you, and she’s going to treat you like her own. I know you don’t lack anything, but this is a little present to mark the occasion. I hope you’ll accept it."

Megan looked down—Rolls-Royce emblem.

"This is... too much, I mean—"

Before she could finish, Stella grabbed the keys from Zachary and shoved them into Megan’s hands, grinning. "Keep it, or you’ll make it weird between us."Standing behind Tristan, Samuel muttered under his breath, "Did you see that? Even just a goddaughter gets spoiled like that. If they found out she’s the real one, where does that leave us?"

Oliver let out a cold chuckle. "Don’t drag me into this. You never had much of a status anyway."

Samuel was speechless. Seriously? Can’t you just speak human for once?

Everyone was busy basking in the warm atmosphere when no one noticed a pair of bitter, burning eyes peeking through the small window on the hospital room door.

Amelia glared through the glass, hands clutching a bouquet of lilies. The flowers—once her favorite—had now become a twisted reminder of how she’d been forced to grow up too fast. Lilies used to mean grace and purity, but now they just screamed humiliation to her. Still, Stella loved them, so she bit back her disgust and bought them anyway.

Now this woman had actually taken in that tramp as her goddaughter? And Zachary even gave her the exact same car? Weren’t those the same "treatment" she received? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

If that bitch turned out to be the real daughter of the Lewis family, then what would she be?

Her jaw clenched so tight it felt like her teeth might shatter. In her mind, she was already ripping Megan apart, savoring every bite of her downfall.

But on the outside, she forced herself to breathe, schooled her expression, then pushed the door open with a sweet smile.

"Dad, Mom," she greeted softly, then gave a polite nod to Oliver and Samuel.

As she passed by Tristan and Megan, her tone turned gentle. "Mr. Reid, Megan, I didn’t expect to see you here."

She walked over to the bedside, briskly removed the lilies from the vase and replaced them with the ones she brought. "Mom loves lilies best, so I picked the freshest bunch I could find. Just look at these old ones—they’re already wilting."

The whole room fell quiet, all eyes on her as she played up the innocent routine. "What’s wrong?" she asked like she hadn’t noticed the tension.

Samuel scoffed, "Those wilting flowers? They’re from Megan."

Amelia lowered her head, staring at her shoes with a fake guilty frown knitting on her forehead. She looked like she could burst into tears any second. "Megan, I’m really sorry. I swear I didn’t know those were from you."

Megan smiled calmly, her tone light and polite. "It’s okay. Yours are actually quite lovely."

She’d originally felt sympathy for Amelia—Tristan had told her about Amelia’s background earlier this morning. As a fellow woman, she’d felt a little sorry for her. But seeing her switch into full-on drama mode just now? Sympathy gone.

Stella turned to Amelia, her tone casual. "Your grandparents are back today. Why don’t you go pick them up with Oliver and Samuel?"

Amelia knew Stella was just trying to get her out of the room, but she forced a cheerful nod. "Alright, I’ll go with my brothers."

She glanced back at Megan. "Please take good care of Mom while I’m out."

Once the three of them left, Stella took Megan’s hand and started chatting like old friends, while Zachary chatted business with Tristan.

As noon approached, Tristan asked Cameron to order dishes from Yunding Restaurant and have them delivered. And just like that, the four of them had their first little get-together in the hospital room.

They were joking and laughing when Brandon walked in, nudging his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Wow, you all seem pretty cozy. Even a hospital can’t kill the vibe, huh?"

Zachary gave a side glance to Stella, who looked like she was having the time of her life. "Looks like you’re doing just fine. Let’s get you discharged this afternoon and head back to Lindon."

Stella instantly slipped into drama queen mode, setting down her chopsticks and lifting a hand to her forehead. "My head’s still spinning, and a car ride will only make it worse. I’d rather stay nearby at Samuel’s place for a few days."

Zachary’s face twitched as he leaned in to whisper, "You’ve clung to me since the day we got married... now it’s been a whole week apart."

Stella didn’t even hesitate. She flopped back on the bed dramatically. "I’m seriously dizzy right now!"

Zachary:[Looks like she’s dumped the husband ever since she got a goddaughter.]

Brandon:[Dude, even the goddaughter took your place. Wait till you find out Megan’s the real one—you’re getting nothing.]

In the end, they all just went with whatever Stella wanted.
