Chapter 279: Chapter 279 Did not expect you to show up

Tristan and Megan stared at Charles Cooper’s twisted face reflected in their eyes.

"Bam!" Delta12 slashed at Charles with a crisscross strike, but he backflipped smoothly to the ground below.

Delta12 quickly lunged toward where Charles was landing, but ended up hitting nothing but air.

Meanwhile, the chopper had already lifted off.

Through the window, Megan watched the action below—Zeta Prime and Delta12 were tag-teaming Charles, fighting fiercely.

Tristan’s brows were furrowed the entire time. "Honestly, that was way too close. If the chopper had gone down earlier, it would’ve been game over."

Megan cupped his lean, handsome face in her hands, smiling, "But hey, we’re fine. Guess it’s true—good people always pull through."

Gunfire continued to erupt. Charles’s army was getting shredded—half of them gone already thanks to the mech-police. The regular officers who weren’t enhanced had also been evacuated.

Wildfires had broken out in the dense forest, black smoke rolling up to shroud the sky. Acrid smoke began seeping into the cabin, making Megan cough hard.

Tristan quickly ordered the helicopter to fly further away from the chaos.

"Charles Cooper, rot in hell..." A weak but familiar voice suddenly echoed.

Megan froze, alarm bells ringing in her head. "Tristan, did you hear that voice just now?"

Tristan told the AI to reverse course—he’d heard it too.

Spotlight from above scanned downward—on the ground, Charles was hauling a woman under his arm, running fast.

Megan gasped and pressed herself against the window, shouting: "Nicole! Tristan, that’s Nicole! What is she doing there?!"

Tristan clenched his fists tightly, exhaling through his nose. "Dreamscape Manor must’ve already fallen."

Below, chaos reigned.

Zeta Prime stood shocked as a zombie lunged straight at him—Mrs. Jones.

Delta12 was about to charge in, but Zeta Prime stopped him. "Don’t kill her. Subdue her. There might still be a cure someday."

Delta12 picked up on Zeta Prime’s emotion levels. "You know her?"

"Yeah."

Delta12 launched steel wires from his arms, wrapping her up and tossing her gently under a pine tree.

"There’s also Mr. Ford, Mrs. Hall, and Mrs. Ford..." Delta12 tied all of them up and let out a cackle. "Zeta Prime, have I now met your whole fam?"

Zeta Prime nodded. "Yup, guess you’re part of the family now too."

Delta12 was over the moon, hugging Zeta Prime. "That’s awesome! I finally have family too!" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Just then, Zeta’s indicator light blinked. He connected.

Tristan’s voice came through: "Zeta Prime, just now you and Delta12 were too focused on the infected—Charles made off with Nicole. Go after him now!"

Zeta Prime cursed, "Damn it! That bastard pulled a classic distraction move!"

Delta12 nodded. "Let’s go toast that damn bio-freak!"

Using Zeta’s location, Tristan locked onto the direction and steered the chopper that way.

Megan glanced at the time. "At this pace, we’ll catch up in ten minutes."

Tristan narrowed his eyes. "This fight... it should end with them."

"Boss, Charles Cooper’s taken Miss Nicole up a tower. She looks real weak—keeps stumbling, even fell to her knees a few times," Zeta Prime updated them.

Charles yanked at Nicole’s collar, glaring up at the chopper above. "Tristan, you coward! Come down here—let’s trade lives!"He let out a manic laugh as he gripped Nicole’s neck and lifted her off the ground. Her face flushed red, veins bulging at her temples.

Charles Cooper scoffed, "Nathaniel really does treat you differently. Since he betrayed me, I’ll just repay that debt with your life!"

Tristan ordered the chopper to descend. Standing at the open door, his coat flapped wildly in the wind before he leapt down, landing solidly on the ground.

He gave a swift hand signal, and the helicopter immediately took off again.

Watching from above, Megan was panicking, slapping the window and shouting, "Tristan! Let me down! I wanna be with you!"

The onboard AI ignored her completely, and the chopper flew farther and farther away.

Frustrated, Megan stomped her feet. She popped open the laptop on her seat and her fingers flew across the keyboard.

She hacked into the AI control systems directly, commanding the mech police to return.

The massive rotors churned the air, tossing leaves into the windstorm beneath.

Megan grabbed onto the ladder and quickly climbed down, rushing straight toward Tristan.

His eyes reddened the moment he saw her. This was his woman—no matter what, she was always by his side, through thick and thin, life or death.

He owed her the wedding of her dreams. She hadn’t even had the chance to wear that white dress. Yet she was willingly carrying his child.

He had loved her for fourteen years.

And she still didn’t know that the boy she always missed... had been him all along.

He pulled her into a tight hug. A warm tear slipped down Megan’s face and hit his chest like fire.

"Tristan, without you, I honestly don’t think I could go on. Please, I’m begging you—don’t push me away."

"Okay," Tristan murmured, gently pulling away and shielding her behind him.

Zeta Prime and Delta12 stepped up behind Megan, guarding her back.

Charles Cooper yanked the limp Nicole back up. "Tristan, I could wipe all of you out right now if I wanted. Why not join me instead? Rule the world with me. What’s the point of being a military bigshot no one appreciates? Always got bounty hunters after your head anyway."

"We’re just on different paths," Tristan said firmly. "You’re the president of a nation—you’ve already got more power than most. Yet your greed still wasn’t satisfied. You’ve been planning this since over two decades ago. That’s... dedication, I’ll give you that."

Charles sneered, "What would a bunch of lowly ants like you know about ambition? Every inch of this world, every corner, it’s all gonna be mine! Mwahaha..."

Just then, Tristan stepped back with Megan. A blur flashed by, and suddenly Charles’s arm dropped to the ground—severed from his body.

The hand gripping Nicole fell clean off the high platform.

Charles froze, then immediately regrew the arm. He looked down and spat, "Nathaniel? Did not expect you to show up."

As Charles charged toward them, Tristan sent Zeta Prime and Delta12 forward.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel gently laid Nicole on the ground. He glanced between her legs. The blood there told him what he didn’t want to see—she was fading fast.

Nicole grabbed his severed right arm tightly. "You used the bio-enhancer serum?"

Nathaniel nodded and brushed her pale face. "The baby’s gone... maybe now you can get your life back."

"South..." Nicole choked with emotion, "You knew everything from the start, didn’t you?"

Nathaniel gave a faint smile. "Guys like me don’t deserve a family. I’ve done way too much wrong. I’m sorry—for hurting you and your family. If there’s a next life... I hope we never meet again."
