The Hero of Hypnosis-Chapter 69: The Blight Boss
"Hold the line! Don’t let any more inside the town! Tanks, hold them back! Mages, use your spells! Archers, notch those arrows! We need to keep them away! Swordsmen, keep cutting those bastards down!" Carl, the adventurer who interrogated Kai in the guild, shouted.
"We can’t hold them back for long!"
"When is backup coming?"
"I-I’m almost out of mana!"
"I only have a few arrows left!"
"There are too many of them! We can’t keep this up!"
Carl cut down two infected that tried to bite the mages he was protecting. ’Dammit! There are thousands of Blight out here, and a large chunk of them have already made it through our ranks! We need backup and more supplies! We’re not making any ground!’
"I-I can’t use mana anymore. I need a potio-arghh!" The mage was dragged away and eaten.
"Crap! I’m all out of arrows. I have to find some on the battlefield." The archer saw some arrows in a corpse and pulled them out. "Sweet." When he went to return to the fight, something grabbed his leg.
"Rawr!"
"G-Get off me!" He stabbed the blight in the eye. "Phew, I thought it almost got me."
*CHOMP*
"Arghhh! My shoulder! N-No! Argh! My leg! Help me! Nooo, I don’t wanna die! I don’t wanna-arggrgg!" The archer died.
"Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Mages, hurry up with the spell! We need to end this quickly!" Carl was now on edge. He just saw dozens of people get mauled and turned into Blight. He and everyone else were fighting a losing battle.
"W-We need more time to gather mana. We’re worn out as it is already. We can’t rush this process. We only need five more minutes!"
Carl reluctantly returned his focus to the battle, giving the mages the five minutes they needed.
"Hold them back for five minutes! Just another five minutes and everything will be fine! Hold on a bit longer!" He dug in his pocket to pull out one vial containing liquid mana, commonly known as a mana potion.
It was only a low-grade one, but he hoped it was enough to quicken the process of the massive spell the ages were cooking up.
"Here, drink!" He split the potion between the five mages who were casting the spell. "I know this isn’t nearly enough to get you back to full strength, but I hope it can quicken the process."
The mage shook his head. "This is more than enough, thank you. Honestly, we have the easy part compared to the other mages who have to stay on the offensive."
The next five minutes were the longest of Carl’s life. He didn’t even know how many of the infected he cut down. All he knew was that his sword kept getting bloodier and bloodier with each swing, and bodies racked up around him.
Tanks were losing their ground, archers resorted to using their bows and side arms to continue their fight, and mages were dropping to the ground from exhaustion. It was a horrible sight.
But their saving grace came in the form of a multicolored magic circle that shone above the large horde, which was the blight.
The creatures gnarled and screeched at the circle, but they weren’t able to attack it.
"Everyone, take cover!"
With the combined might of five mages, they were able to use a powerful spell that could sweep the blight away. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Nature’s Rage!" They all shouted in unison.
The magic circle shone even brighter than before, and nature began to run wild. Strong winds tore through the flesh of the blight, water rained down like daggers, the earth shifted and spikes protruded from the ground, fire blazed wildly, burning anything it touched, and lightning boomed with each strike.
Once the duration of the spell was up, the entirety of the infected was wiped out.
"We....We did it!"
"Yeahhhh!"
"WOOOOOOOOO!"
"Huray!"
"Let’s Gooo!"
"We killed them all!"
"Yesss! I can see my family!"
"My kids! My wife! I survived! Haha! I survived. I FUCKING SURVIV-GAUGH!"
The cheering stopped everyone turned to the man with a human arm in his face. Then, they felt it, the slight shaking of the ground. But the shaking didn’t stop; it got fiercer and fiercer, until they could hear heavy stomps coming their way.
"W-What is that?"
"No, please no!"
"No more. I can’t do this!"
"You’ve got to be kidding me!"
"H-How are we going to beat that?!"
A fifty-foot-tall disfigured blight stomped its way toward the town gates. Its right arm was normal, but its left arm was comprised of hundreds of smaller arms. It had one eye, which was comprised of hundreds of them, and another that was so big that the creature almost resembled a cyclops. Lastly, from its back, hundreds of normally sized infected were crawling out of its skin like parasites.
"I think I’m gonna be sick!"
Carl lost hope. All of them here could barely handle the wave that was just wiped out. Now they had to handle a new wave, plus a colossal one at that? He knew this would be where he died.
Still, he didn’t give up.
"Stand firm! If we fall, the entire town will fall as well! We’re the last line of defense, and we will not falter. Your mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, wives, husbands, all of your loved ones are counting on you to save them, and we will not let them down! Who’s with me!"
"Yeah!"
"If I can protect my family, I’ll gladly die here!"
"I’m sorry, mother, your foolish son isn’t coming back home tonight."
"Little Timmy, I’m sorry I wont be there for you, but know that big sister will always love you."
All of them prepared for an attack they knew was coming.
"GROWWRRRRRRRRRRRR" A powerful, ear-piercing scream froze everyone in place out of fear.
Audible gulps could be heard from everyone there, but that only made them tighten their weapons even more.
Hundreds of the infected started charging at the adventurers, and the Colossal blight ripped off its many arms and threw them with full force toward them.
"Everyone! Brace!"
Listening to Carl, everyone stood their ground. Some out of fear, some out of pure courage, and some even closing their eyes so they wouldn’t see death coming their way.
And just as the hundreds of arms were flying at missile speeds toward the people, just as many lightning bolts came from the opposite direction, completely destroying the arms.
"What the fuck is that? A Blight Boss or something?"
"Doesn’t matter, we’ll take it down anyway."
"Everyone seems to be doing okay."
Kai smirked. "Looks like we made it on time. Let’s go cut these bastards down!"
