The Hero of Hypnosis-Chapter 79: The Bandit Raid Part 2
Kai was thinking to himself about how great it was that he scored Kassandra so easily. He thought it would take a few days, but with a little push, she became his.
Having a superpower, especially a Tier-10 mage, on his side would be super helpful. Nobles, while they were good in their own right, wouldn’t be as useful when it came to the influence a superpower had.
While they didn’t have as much wealth, they had way more power, and when someone is scared, they’ll do anything to become unscared.
’And I have the grace of that noble woman Kirlia Gryff as well. Sure, I could reveal to everyone that I’m the hero, but that’s no fun. Besides, having connections, regardless of my own status, is great. Even in my previous world, you could get out of a bad situation if you had the right connection...and money.’
"Hey, Kai, do you see that?" Gwen asked, pointing forward.
"Hmm?" He looked forward but didn’t see anything. "See what?"
"The segregation." Amaya pointed out.
"Segregation?"
"Mhmm, between ranks. Look. All the C-Ranks are walking in this blazing hot sun, the B-Ranks have a magic device that is keeping them cool in this weather, and the A and S ranks are inside those carriages."
Kai looked back around, and yeah, what Gwen and Amaya were saying was true. The C-Rank mages were trying their best to use ice magic to cool everyone down, but not all of them knew ice magic, and using it as an air conditioner didn’t bode well with their mana reserves.
"Damn. I already know how this is going to go. Gwen, Amaya, stay with me at all times. No matter what, don’t leave my side."
They didn’t plan on leaving his side in the first place, but they still wanted to know why.
"Is something wrong?" They asked
"Call it a hunch, but things probably wont go well for the C-Ranks." Kai had seen enough movies to know what happens in situations like these, so he was already preparing for the worst.
---
The group came to a stop and set up camp in a part of the forest that had been cleared out to make space for everyone.
Everyone was tasked with preparing their own dinners, which was a red flag in Kai’s book, and they all ate separately rather than together.
After they all ate dinner, it was lights out, and people took turns staying up to watch in case anything happened.
"Do you think something is going to happen?" Amaya asked, getting undressed to put on her night clothes.
"Yeah. Look around. We have magic tools that can set up barriers, S-Ranks with magic that is powerful, and A-Ranks who are capable of staying up for hours on end without feeling tired whatsoever, yet only C-Ranks are keeping watch? Nah, something’s up."
"Wan’t to stay up?" Gwen asked.
"Nah, we’ll be fine. I already protected our tent. We can rest for a bit. If something happens, we’ll be alright."
The two of them nodded, then snuggled with Kai and fell asleep.
---
"Is that the campsite?" A hooded figure asked. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Yeah. According to the information, this should be the group of adventurers that is set to raid our stronghold soon.
"One of you, send word to Sir Carlos, tell him that we’ve found them. The rest of us will weaken their ranks. Remember, our goal isn’t to wipe them out; it’s only to slow them down and dwindle their numbers. There are 300 of them and only 100 of us. Let’s make this quick and quiet, and get out of here. We’ll target the left side since the weakest ones are there."
"Yes, sir!" The assassins vanished into the night.
Over by the campsite, five people were keeping watch on the southern side. They followed a set path, one where each of them would be able to see different angles and communicate with each other seamlessly.
An assassin whooshed by.
"Hey! D-Did you see that?" A watcher asked
"Huh? Nah man. I told you to stop drinking before taking watch. You know you get hallucinations."
"S-Sorry, man, you know how I am with I get the bottle in my hands. Once I start, I can’t stop." The guy turned to his friend.
"Hey, why did you stop moving? Oh, you’re mad at me again, huh? I know I promised to stop drinking, but it’s hard, man, it’s hard." He walked up to his friend and patted him on the shoulder.
Instead of turning around, the friend just dropped to the ground, and his head rolled away.
"What-!" The man’s throat was slit before he could shout.
As quickly and quietly as they could, the assassins took out every watcher without being noticed at all. All fifty of them died within seconds of each other.
"Leader, that’s all of them."
"Good. Now, quietly target the ones in the tents. Be subtle, be quick, and be quiet."
As quickly and quietly as they could, the assassins targeted the tents of C-Ranks and offed them in their sleep. Some managed to wake up, but they weren’t able to do anything in time, as they were quickly killed.
This continued until two assassins reached Kai’s tent.
"I can sense three people in here."
"We’ll go in on three."
They both nodded, counted to three, then touched the tent flap to enter the tent.
The moment they touched the tent, both of them were sent flying into trees as if they had been knocked away by an invisible force.
Kai’s eyes opened, and he shot up quickly.
"Babe?" Gwen asked, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"We’re under attack." Kai bolted out of the tent and spotted the assassin.
"S-Shit! Kill him, quickly!"
Five assassins lunged at him, daggers in their hand while shooting blowdarts at him, laced with poison.
With one stomp, Kai blasted everyone away. He then pulled out his new weapon he had bought from the status window shop, and smirked. "This reminds me of when I hunted that stupid rabbit and wolf."
He threw the dagger in his right hand to the left, and the dagger in his left hand to the right. Both of them pierced right through an assassin’s head, killing them instantly.
He recalled both of them grabbing the left one with his left hand, but grabbed the magical chain of the right blade, spun it around like a helicopter, then slammed it down, slicing another assassin in half.
"W-What the fuck?! He’s a C-Rank? Fuck that, I’m out of here!"
The assassin tried to run away, but Kai was faster. He threw his left blade into the man’s chest, dragged him back, then caught his right blade after recalling it, and sliced the man’s head off.
He then vanished, appearing in front of the fifth assassin and smirked in the man’s face.
"P-Please!" The assassin begged.
"If you cry like a cat, I’ll let you go."
"M-Meow! Meow! Nya?"
Kai ripped out his heart. "You’re not a fucking girl, don’t say ’Nya’ you stupid fuck."
After killing the man, Kai launched a fireball into the sky, blowing it up to wake everyone up.
He gathered a shit ton of air and yelled at the top of his lungs. "WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!"
