The hivemind is conquering for me?-Chapter 675: "Good Boy"
"Hey, you. You are finally awake!"
I heard as I was groggily awakening from blackness. My eyes then shot open as my body lunged forward as I proceeded to look around to make sure I wasn’t on a cart. After confirming I wasn’t, I sighed in relief.
"Are you alright?" I heard again and I turned to the voice, a woman I naturally recognised. Skaja was lying in a bed opposite me with an ice cream cone in her hand. We were both in a medical ward of some sort, which made sense considering the state we were both in.
"Yeah, I am fine. Just woke up confused is all. How are you?" I asked politely. The test was over, justice for chonk was tolled out, the woman was no longer my enemy.
"Oh, I’ve been better. Some absolute lunatic first year put my team through the ringer; He grievously injured every single one of us. Still, we won in the end so it’s fine." Skaja said, and took a lick of her ice cream.
I raised my eyebrow as I got out of bed and began stretching. "What do you mean you won? I finished you all off before I passed out."
Skaja smirked. "Did you though? Or did one of my men spend the next day running away from your partner injuring her over the course of the day till she passed out from exhaustion?"
I stopped my stretch to look at the woman in shock and muttered. "Son of a bitch..." I then began to laugh and shrugged my shoulders. "Oh well, wasn’t the goal for us to lose anyway, have you guys test us for how we would handle combat in the future? Speaking of that, how did we do?"
Skaja blinked in surprise and responded. "Y-you are fucking with me right? ’How did we do?’ Brother, you are a fucking menace. Let me be the first to say, no one holds any ill will about the injuries they sustained, in fact, when Iilr woke up after being riddled with seventeen of your bullets he was ranting and raving about you being his buddy all along and how he ’had a knack for picking out good stock.’ We were all grateful when he was kicked out of the ward after being given the all clear let me tell you. But to sum up your question. You did phenomenally, second best run on record. Would have been number one, but apparently your sister is scarier than you."
I blinked in surprise and gulped. "Orchid? Uh-oh What did she do? Wait, how long have I been out?"
"About two days, the medical staff were fawning over you at one point, talking about your regeneration factor and how you should have been out of it for months. I digress. Your sister. Apparently after visiting you the other day, it was her turn in the hunt, another team designed to deal with her and the man she was paired with. From what I have been told, your sister is like an animal. She turned the hunt inside out from the get go and was chasing her hunters through the jungle... They didn’t last long. They are all in the other ward, almost all are missing body parts."
"Any casualties?" I interjected, prompting Skaja to shake her head.
"No, she was surgical. From what I have heard she inflicted as much pain as possible in the safest way possible. Sounds like I got lucky with just my guts taking a beating huh?"
I let out a breath of relief before smiling at Orchid being a good girl and having safe levels of revenge. That would be rewarded later. For now though, I turned to Skaja and said.
"Hey, so look. I need to apologise for kissing you and saying the stuff about your family, you just killed my chonk and my mental state just snapped. I shouldn’t have done that or angered whatever the fuck you were channelling into yourself. So, I am sorry."
Skaja’s face went void of emotions for a second before returning to normal and smiled back as she replied. "Oh that? Yeah, don’t worry about that, I have kissed men and women before Apollo, it’s not a big deal. We actually came to the conclusion that it was a masterfully crafted combat taunt as I lowered my guard in my rage. Though it is very sweet of you to apologise, that tells me a lot about your character."
’We?’ I thought for a moment, picking up that verbal idiosyncrasy. Everyone had their secrets though and I wouldn’t prod at it.
As I was performing my stretches, as without correct nutritional stores in my recovery, I had recovered a bit stiff, two individuals walked into the medical wing each reading something off their respective notepads.
One then noticed me and swatted their partner to look at me, the latter then sprang into action. "Mr Lambdason! You need to get back in your bed, you suffered severe bodily trauma’s and Psionic burnout from continuously depleting your Psionics over the course of two days. You need rest. Having a healing factor does not exempt you from this rule. So get back into bed before I put you back into bed."
Staring down at the five foot tall nurse that was wearing extremely gothic makeup. Through forces beyond my understanding, I slowly slunk back into bed while keeping my eyes on her. Once I was lying back down, the nurse came and covered my naked body and smiled.
"Good boy, I prefer it when my patients are obedient. Now, do you mind if I run some tests on you? To check your bodily functions and mental state?"
I smiled back at her. "Sure, no problem, but can someone go and inform my sister that I have awakened? Before she puts more people in this place?"
The woman turned to her partner and nodded before turning back to me. "Of course we can cutie pie. Now, tell me what you remember about the events that lead up to your injuries."
...
Millie was working in her bakery as usual. She had just handed over a box of chocolate cookies to a customer before her attention was drawn to the corner of the bakery once more.
She was seriously starting to get weirded out by the purple haired woman who had been coming in everyday and just sitting there, doing nothing but look at her. She had tried to break the ice a few times, spark up a conversation, but the woman just continued to look at her oddly.
Millie could have kicked her out, but the woman was breaking no rules, nor was she bothering the customers, so she just dealt with the awkwardness and continued to do her job.
"Millie! He is up!" She suddenly heard a familiar voice barge through the door. Looking at the redhead, she needed no further context at who ’he’ was and let out a sigh of relief. "Oh thank goodness! I will bake him a cake! Have you seen him?"
Valerica shook her head. "Not yet, they are running tests on him and- Oh Gabrielle, hello what are you- um alright then?" Valerica watched confused as Gabrielle ran past her and out of the door. Millie then jumped in surprise before turning to Valerica and asking. "Wait! You know that creep?"
Valerica tilted her head in confusion before pointing behind her to the door. "Who Gabrielle? Of course. She is princess Ice bitch’s house guard captain. She is currently working as Hailey’s teachers assistant and guardian while she is here. Why what’s up?"
Millie was about to speak, but was cut off. "Hey, can I order some cookies please?" Millie wasn’t in the mood for the customer right now, so she packed up a box hastily and passed it to the customer. "On the house, put up the closed sign as you leave.
"YES!" The customer screamed with unhidden delight and hastily left, holding the box preciously before someone could steal her free cookies.
Millie then turned back to Valerica and began. "That strange woman has been coming in here all week. She hasn’t ordered food or anything. She has just been sitting over there at that table and staring at me from opening to closing time. Why would the princess’ bodyguard do that? Does she think I am a threat to the princess? I can’t even leave my bakery without freaking out, how would I be a threat? Should I do something?"
Valerica could see her friend was getting a little worked up at the prospect and placed her hand on Millie’s shoulder. "It’s alright Millie. I highly doubt it is that. This might not help, but Gabrielle is a bit... Unstable. I am sure she is just hyper fixating on something without realising she is being weird. I will talk to her and ice bitch about it and make sure it stops. Now, I am leaving, I need to get back to my son. I will inform him that his... ’Close relation’ is making him a cake. I am sure he will be excited to hear that. See you later."
