The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 113: Too Many People to Like
Chapter 113: Too Many Admirers
Screams echoed throughout the banquet hall.
Tristan Sterling’s face instantly darkened, an intimidating chill radiating from him.
Rachel Royce grabbed Claire Ainsworth by the hair. Gripping her arm with her other hand, she began dragging her away. A delicate woman like Claire Ainsworth was no match for Rachel, who had undergone extensive training.
The surrounding crowd watched in shock, but no one dared to intervene.
"Ah! You bitch, let go of me! Tristan! Tristan!"
Julian Jennings stepped forward, blocking Tristan Sterling. He met the other man’s dangerously cold, dark eyes and said in a low voice, "President Sterling, when it comes to matters between women, it’s best to let them sort it out themselves. You shouldn’t interfere."
Tristan Sterling stared at Julian Jennings, his pitch-black eyes filled with a bone-chilling cold.
In an instant,
the atmosphere in the entire banquet hall seemed to plummet, making it hard to breathe.
"Julian Jennings, do you really think you’re qualified to challenge me?" The man’s voice dripped with cold derision.
Julian Jennings replied, "I’m quite curious to find that out myself."
Claire Ainsworth’s screams continued to ring out.
Rachel Royce dragged her to a nearby table, grabbed a drink, and splashed its contents onto her.
Tristan Sterling took a step forward but was blocked by Julian Jennings. His fists were clenched so tightly the veins on them stood out.
Just as the tense atmosphere was about to spin out of control, the event organizers rushed over to mediate.
Hector Ainsworth only realized his niece was involved when he heard the commotion. He was stunned by the sight before him. He hurried forward to stop Rachel Royce, but security guards ran over and restrained her.
Rachel Royce’s eyes were red with rage. She was breathing heavily, glaring furiously at the disheveled Claire Ainsworth.
Hector Ainsworth rushed to help Claire Ainsworth up. He looked at Rachel Royce, his brow furrowed. He looked like he wanted to say something, but held his tongue.
Tristan Sterling strode over, emanating a terrifyingly hostile aura.
Claire Ainsworth sobbed, "Tristan... Tristan..."
Hector Ainsworth looked at Tristan Sterling, intimidated by the look on his face.
Tristan Sterling stepped forward and pulled Claire Ainsworth into his arms. He glared at Rachel Royce, his eyes radiating a deathly cold.
Rachel Royce clenched her fists, meeting the man’s gaze without flinching.
Without a word, Tristan Sterling swept Claire Ainsworth into his arms and left the banquet hall.
After he was gone,
the tension suddenly drained from Rachel Royce’s body. She swayed, about to collapse.
"Rachel!"
Julian Jennings rushed forward to steady her.
Rachel took a moment to catch her breath. "I’m fine," she said.
Hector Ainsworth looked at Julian Jennings. "President Jennings, what was all that about?"
His tone was subdued, not accusatory.
Julian Jennings could naturally see Director Ainsworth’s displeasure. He simply said, "You of all people should know what kind of person your niece is, Director Ainsworth. Not everyone is going to tolerate her behavior."
With that,
Julian Jennings helped Rachel Royce turn and walk away.
Back in her room,
Rachel Royce had calmed down by now.
Her dress was stained with red wine, and she reeked of alcohol. ’What a waste. This dress was worth six hundred thousand.’
Julian Jennings said, "We can count it as a work-related expense. The company will reimburse you."
Rachel Royce looked up at him, a smile breaking through. "President Jennings, you’re definitely the best boss in the world."
Julian Jennings smiled back.
Rachel asked, "Do you regret bringing me here today?"
’Tristan was truly furious this time. I’ve never seen him with such a terrifying expression.’
Julian Jennings sat on the edge of the bed. His deep eyes watched Rachel from behind his glasses. "The word ’regret’ isn’t in my vocabulary," he said. "Besides, how could I call myself the best boss if I didn’t protect you?"
Rachel let out another low laugh. "For a boss this good, I guess I’ll have to work myself to the bone for you."
Julian Jennings replied, "I hope that’s not just an empty promise."
Just then,
Rachel’s phone vibrated. She pulled it from her bag, already knowing who was calling without having to look.
"Melissa?"
"Mhm," Rachel confirmed.
Julian Jennings stood up. "It’s getting late. Finish your call and get some rest. Try not to think about anything tonight."
Rachel agreed, "Okay."
Julian Jennings turned and left the bedroom.
Rachel took a moment to compose herself before answering Melissa’s call.
"Aunt Evelynn!"
Hearing her daughter’s sweet, cheerful voice, Rachel felt a wave of warmth wash over her.
"Melissa."
They chatted for twenty minutes before hanging up.
’Melissa was staying at the old Sterling Family estate, with her cousins there to keep her company.’
After putting down her phone,
Rachel got up and went into the bathroom.
She had just finished showering and put on a robe when there was a knock at the door.
Rachel opened the door and was slightly taken aback to see who it was. "David?"
David’s eyes swept over Rachel. "Evelynn, are you okay?" he asked.
"I’m fine," Rachel said with a smile.
’He must have heard what happened.’
"Evelynn, did you have a fight with Tristan’s girlfriend?"
Rachel’s lips curved into a slight smile. "It’s late. This isn’t the time for gossip."
David chuckled. "Fair enough. I won’t keep you. See you in the morning."
"Mhm," Rachel acknowledged.
David turned and left.
Rachel closed the door and lay down on her bed. She picked up her tablet, intending to get some work done.
But her mind was in turmoil. She couldn’t make sense of the words on the tablet’s screen.
Finally, she gave up, turned off the tablet, switched off the lights, and lay down to sleep.
But that night,
she didn’t sleep well.

The ringing of her phone woke her the next day.
It was Julian Jennings.
"Not up yet?"
Rachel had just managed to sit up when a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her to lie back down. "I’m up," she managed to say.
Julian Jennings immediately noticed something was wrong with her voice. "Are you feeling unwell?" he asked, concerned.
Rachel rubbed her head, not trying to hide it. "I suddenly got a little dizzy."
"I’m coming over right now."
It was already past ten in the morning.
Julian Jennings had just finished a meeting in the restaurant.
After hanging up,
he got up and headed for the elevator.
He happened to run into David and Tristan Sterling, but Julian Jennings had no intention of greeting them.
Seeing Julian Jennings, David took the initiative to ask, "Mr. Jennings, is something wrong with Evelynn?"
David was fluent in four languages and had overheard Julian’s side of the conversation.
Julian Jennings replied coolly, "It’s nothing. You needn’t worry, David."
With that,
Julian strode off.
David watched Julian’s retreating figure, then glanced at Tristan. "Do you think he likes Evelynn?"
Tristan retorted, "What do you think?"
David glanced again in the direction Julian had gone. "My gut tells me he likes Evelynn. But she just said he’s her boss. Does that mean she doesn’t like him?"
Tristan scoffed lightly. "Or maybe she just has too many admirers to choose from?"
