The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 128: Evidentiary Material
Chapter 128: Evidentiary Materials
Rachel Royce returned to the company.
Julian Jennings was just coming back from outside. Seeing her, he said, "You’re back."
Rachel hummed in acknowledgment.
The two of them walked inside together.
"How did the talk go?"
Rachel smiled faintly. "I’m not even fighting for any assets, yet Lawyer Goodman is still willing to help me. It’s truly a waste of his talents. He must have only agreed to help me as a favor to you, Professor."
Although Gabriel Gordon’s fees were high, they were nothing compared to the cases where he charged a percentage of the divorce settlement.
For June Jennings’s divorce case alone, Gabriel Gordon probably collected a retainer in the tens of millions.
Julian Jennings said, "You may not be fighting for assets, but Tristan Sterling has a top-tier private legal team. If he’s still not planning to divorce you, it’s definitely going to take some effort."
He had a point.
She was certain that Tristan’s refusal to divorce was a deliberate attempt to make her life difficult.
’What a malicious man.’
At the thought, Rachel felt her breath catch in her chest.
The two got into the elevator.
They exchanged a few words about work.
Julian had gone to sign a contract with Hector Ainsworth that morning. The successful partnership meant the Ainsworth Family now had a significant bargaining chip in their power struggle.
"Suzanne Sullivan has probably found out by now."
Julian said, "She definitely knows. Hector Ainsworth has one of Suzanne’s people on his team."
Rachel paused for a moment before it dawned on her. ’It’s only normal. Who wouldn’t plant a mole on the opposing side?’
"Then Hector Ainsworth had better investigate the moles around him thoroughly. We can’t let this affect Rowan’s interests down the line."
Julian replied, "I’ve already reminded him. He knows what to do."
Rachel felt relieved. "That’s good."
The elevator arrived.
"I’ll get back to work then."
Julian nodded. "Come by my office around three this afternoon."
"Okay," Rachel said, stepping out of the elevator.
「After three o’clock.」
After finishing her work, Rachel went to Julian Jennings’s office.
Ian Quinn and Joanna Sutton were there as well.
Rachel walked over and greeted him, "Mr. Quinn, long time no see."
Ian Quinn had been away on a business trip and had just returned today.
Ian Quinn looked Rachel over, his handsome, almond-shaped eyes crinkling with a smile. He smirked and said, "It’s been a while. You’re getting more and more beautiful, Rachel."
Rachel simply smiled in response.
Joanna Sutton, however, mercilessly teased, "Mr. Quinn, you’re completely smitten whenever you see a beautiful woman."
Ian Quinn stared at her and immediately put on a stern face. "This is the office. Is that any way to talk to your boss?"
Joanna was unfazed. "Well, a boss should act like a boss."
Ian turned to Julian Jennings. "President Jennings, look at this. Where do you see an employee lecturing their boss?"
Julian cut in, "Alright, you should also learn how to project the image of a proper boss."
Ian was unconvinced. "What part of me doesn’t look like a boss?"
Rachel couldn’t help but smile.
After a bit of banter, they got down to business.
Julian wanted Rachel to take over a biomedical project with a capital management of up to two billion. Joanna Sutton would be assisting her.
Thanks to the previous success of Procare, Rachel would have more experience in this area.
Julian handed Rachel a file.
"Take this back and look it over. You can ask me anytime if you have questions."
Rachel took it. "Okay."
This was the main reason Julian had called them in. After he finished explaining, Rachel and Joanna left the office.
After the two of them left, Ian Quinn and Julian Jennings started discussing serious matters.
Ian Quinn might seem frivolous and flirtatious on a normal day, but his professional abilities were undeniably top-notch in the industry.
They mainly discussed his business trip and the partnership with the Ainsworth Family.
"Given the relationship between Tristan Sterling and Suzanne Sullivan, it’s possible they might try to interfere later on," Ian Quinn said.
Julian took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He then lowered his hand, his handsome face impassive, and said, "We’ll deal with him when he makes his move."
Since they had already taken this step, they weren’t afraid of Tristan’s interference.
It was just a matter of who was the better strategist.
Ian Quinn looked at Julian and suddenly laughed. "A couple of days ago, I was at Colin Cole’s press conference and ran into your uncle. He even asked me if you had a girlfriend. He’s starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with you. You’re not young anymore, you know. You can’t just stay an old bachelor forever. Your prime won’t last forever, you know."
Julian shot him a look. "Why don’t you get married first before you talk."
"If I wanted to get married, it’d be a piece of cake. Sigh... to be honest, are you waiting for Rachel to get divorced?"
Ian Quinn’s eyes were filled with gossip.
He had never seen any sign that Julian had feelings for Rachel before; the man had hidden it way too deep. It had only been in the last year or two.
He’d felt that the way Julian looked at Rachel was becoming more and more unusual. Men have a sixth sense about these things, too.
Especially when Rachel decided to join Rowan.
Although Julian had appeared calm, Ian had clearly sensed his good mood during that time. Julian didn’t even pursue matters too much when projects had errors.
And then there was the cruise ship dinner before. He even took Rachel as his only guest.
He had heard what happened: Rachel had gotten into a conflict with Claire Ainsworth.
Julian and Tristan Sterling had looked like they were about to come to blows.
That was hardly the proper attitude for a boss toward a subordinate. It was crossing the line, big time.
Julian put his glasses back on, his handsome features as placid as still water. He stood up and walked toward his desk. "If there’s nothing else, you can leave."
This just fired Ian up. He followed Julian, leaning against the side of his desk, and continued, "That kid Thomas is deeply in love with Rachel, you know. They’ve known each other since they were little, and now he’s moved in right across from her. Rachel’s parent, Peter Preston, likes him too. Compared to Thomas, besides being older, what other advantages do you really have?"
Julian looked up, his voice turning cold. "You have too much free time, don’t you?"
In the end, Ian Quinn was kicked right out of the office. "I was just kidding! Don’t be so serious! Being older has its advantages, too!"
"President Quinn."
Julian’s assistant walked over, holding a file.
Ian Quinn turned his head to look at him.
The assistant’s face was full of worry. "President Quinn, did you make President Jennings angry again?"
’And I still have to go in there and report on my work.’
Ian looked at the assistant and chuckled. "If you get yelled at, just come find me. I’ll reimburse you for your emotional distress."
「Two days later.」
Tristan Sterling received another copy of the complaint and related documents.
The man looked at the documents in his hand.
A cold smirk just touched his lips.
He made a phone call.
The other end connected quickly. "President Sterling."
"Come to my office."
Soon, a middle-aged man arrived at the office.
He was the head of Tristan Sterling’s private legal team, Hugo Hayes.
"Take a look at this."
Tristan handed him the documents.
Hugo Hayes took them. Compared to the previous version, this complaint included a new piece of evidence. It stated that after registering their marriage, the two never held a wedding ceremony, had no conjugal relations, and their families had no interactions whatsoever. This demonstrated that the marriage had lacked any emotional or familial foundation from the very beginning, and therefore did not meet the legal definition of the basic social unit formed on the basis of matrimony.
