Chapter 121: Chapter 121: The Signal for Help Doesn’t Always Bring Good People

We all saw how dangerous it was, thanks to the ’markers’ they left behind.

Qinghan asked him why not stay on the beach and wait for rescue, we could light bonfires, maybe a passing plane would see us.

Big Beard stroked his entirely curly black beard, and said with a pout, "Impossible, have you looked at the sky? No stars, no moon, it’s supposed to be daytime now, the sunniest time. If a plane flew in here, it would be trapped too."

"But the jungle is even more dangerous; we came in looking for food, not expecting such peril, I think it’s better to retreat," Qinghan showed a hint of fear.

He started acting again, could he be afraid of a cannibal flower and swamp? When he saw the cannibal flower swallow a person whole, he was calmer than us.

He must be saying this deliberately for Big Beard to hear, persuading them to leave the jungle.

Big Beard waved his hand, shook his head, "There are man-made structures here; maybe there are native inhabitants on the island. Our equipment and food are gone; we need to find someone for help."

The stone pillars and statues on this clearing are indeed man-made, but they look aged, weather-beaten, impossible to be modern creations.

"Then let’s split up; we’ll go back to the beach to set up a distress signal. If you find islanders, notify us, how about it?"

"No problem, good luck to you."

"No, good luck to all of us!"

Qinghan and Big Beard shook hands, Big Beard casually asked, "Those cannibal trees didn’t attack you, thank goodness."

"We walked very carefully, didn’t disturb them," Qinghan had a slightly frightened expression.

"Maybe they’re picky eaters," Big Beard laughed, patting Qinghan on the shoulder.

The three of us left the clearing, retraced our path back to the beach, where Qinghan actually started gathering wood, planning to set a rescue fire.

"Come on, there’s no damn airplane in this ghost place, what are you really plotting?" I followed Qinghan closely, whispering in a voice only we could hear.

"I suspect those people came to the island looking for something specific, they have weapons, to remove their suspicions, we’re putting on a show."

"Hmm... Then I’ll go catch some fish for you." I handed the gathered deadwood to Qinghan, turning towards the sea.

"Be careful." Qinghan, even though he knows I’m impervious to blades and bullets, always warns me to be careful when doing dangerous tasks, like it’s his catchphrase.

"Got it~" I waved my hand, giving the same reply.

There were fish near the shore, but for some reason, the fish in this sea all had sharp teeth, regardless of their size, attacking and biting when provoked.

They couldn’t hurt me, but endlessly biting was annoying. I finally came up with a one-time solution to catch fish.

First, scare them, when they bite, I’d stab them with a knife, tuck them into the net I found, their blood attracting more fish. I threw the small ones back, focusing on catching the bigger ones.

After half an hour of fuss, I dragged a net full of big fish ashore.

On the shore, I gutted and cleaned the fish, while Qinghan already had a fire going.

By my timing, it should be afternoon; we hadn’t had lunch yet. Qinghan skewered the fish on branches to grill them, making portions for Bi Shi and He Su too.

He Su was dozing off intermittently; she woke up, ate half a fish, and fell asleep again holding the skewer.

"Haven’t you noticed how frequently she wakes up?" I looked at Bi Shi, scrutinizing her.

"Obviously," Bi Shi stuffed a whole fish into her mouth, moving her jaw a bit, then spat out an intact fishbone.

I suddenly wanted to suggest she join a talent show or start a mukbang channel.

"Is there something you’re not telling me?" Seeing she wasn’t volunteering information, I pressed on.

"Didn’t you say you wouldn’t bother about these things? Why ask then!"

"he...tui!" I rolled my eyes exaggeratedly, deciding to ignore her.

Qinghan kept adding wood to the fire as if someone might really find us.

Just after I mentally mocked him, reality slapped me in the face—a light appeared on the sea, we were spotted!

They came with two speedboats, with five people on each. They stopped the engines at the reef area by the shore and, like us, came ashore on foot.

They had backpacks, weapons, and were dressed in jungle gear. Once ashore, the ten people headed straight for our fire.

As they drew closer, I suddenly recognized a familiar face; among the ten, there was a woman who had liaised with He Su’s subordinate in that bar.

Since that night in the bar, I hadn’t seen her again.

Even when the captain moved passengers to the Ghost Ship, she wasn’t to be seen.

I didn’t notice it then, but now I think maybe she secretly disembarked and joined her accomplices.

Otherwise, where did they get the speedboats and weapons, and why change outfits, the cruise ship didn’t have any of these.

The woman paused slightly when she saw He Su asleep by the fire, then resumed her composure as if nothing happened.

"Didn’t expect there to be survivors from the ship, what a coincidence," the woman said with feigned surprise as she noticed me staring at her.

"Yeah, it’s a coincidence," I replied nonchalantly, playing along with her performance.

"I was rescued by a passing scientific research team. Besides you, any other survivors?" the woman asked, looking around.

"No." Barely had I spoken when a burst of gunfire came from inside the jungle.

I cursed quietly, it’s just my luck, my face was nearly slapped swollen by reality.

"There are people in the jungle, but they’re not passengers from the ship," Qinghan explained for me.

The woman nodded; she had no reason not to believe it since there were no firearms on the cruise.

"It’s too dangerous here; come with us. Wild animals roam at night, it’s not safe on the sea either." The woman ’kindly’ advised.

"With gunfire in the jungle, it’s even more dangerous there, you go ahead; we’d rather stay put and wait for our end." The ship’s misadventure into the Sea of Sunken Ships was surely orchestrated by this woman, can her words be trusted?!

"You’re really funny, young lady, talking about waiting for your end, isn’t that just frustration? Come on, the scientific research team has weapons, they can protect us." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Yeah, you four are unarmed, with only one gentleman; it might be hard for him to protect you three ladies, come with us, let’s look out for each other," a young guy with glasses chimed in.

Ha, just this one gentleman is formidable, without him, your guns are no more than fire sticks.

Though internally mocking his words, I maintained a calm demeanor, glancing at Qinghan and Bi Shi to see their stance.

Qinghan pointed to the sleeping He Su, "She’s ill, taking her along would be inconvenient."

The woman immediately pointed to a strong man behind her, "Gangzi can carry her, this place is vast, we need to find a good spot to camp. They’re here for scientific research, not harm, don’t worry."
