Chapter 410: Chapter 314: Revealing Information (Part 2)

Beautiful things aren’t necessarily good, and ugly creatures aren’t necessarily dangerous.

"?" She was stunned, and so was I, not knowing why she paused.

"I’ve heard the outside world has changed." She started her leapfrog conversation again.

"Yeah, dynasties have changed who knows how many times, our clan has scattered, and the queen... I don’t know where she went." I had encountered the former queen; the great clan war led to our decline. Where the last queen went, I truly don’t know, and after opening a shop with Bai Yun, I never asked her, because I genuinely stopped caring about the past.

"I used to think living a long life was a happy thing. I wanted to be like you all, in every aspect."

I didn’t interrupt her, letting her continue after a brief pause, "Do you find life exhausting?"

Her mind jumped around so much, I couldn’t tell what she wanted to talk about, so I just spoke wherever my thoughts led me, "Not exhausting. It used to be boring, but now it’s better—a smartphone solves all unhappiness."

"A smartphone? That thing that makes noise?" Wuyong looked toward the stone shelf by the wall, where there was a smartphone in one of the slots.

"Yeah, that’s the thing."

"No, it makes my bugs sick, so I turned it off."

"Ugh, just stay away from it. If not, wear some radiation protection clothing. I see lots of pregnant women buying those."

Wuyong seemed to again not understand what I was saying, looking at me with eyes full of confusion.

"Forget it, continue what you were saying."

"There are evil spirits guarding the city center. They’re energy bodies that can only survive relying on the Cosmic Core. You all want the Cosmic Core, which means taking their lives."

Wuyong’s topic suddenly moved to a critical point, catching me a bit off guard, so I casually asked, "Do they have any weaknesses?"

Wuyong shook her head, "As far as I know, none."

The bugs on her started moving, seemingly biting into her flesh, but she didn’t even frown, turning to walk toward a corner of the box room.

Calling it a corner isn’t accurate either; in modern layout, that should be a bathroom.

Inside, there was a stone basin, similar to a bathtub, but circular and particularly round, like a mini fountain pool.

It was filled with purple liquid, the same hue as the bugs. I didn’t know whether to call it Enchanting Violet or Unripe Eggplant color.

Wuyong, wearing her ’Insect Coat’, stepped into the stone basin to soak, if I’m not mistaken, the bugs were recharging.

Bugs are living things, and living things need an energy supply. Even if it’s nuclear-powered, it still requires a core.

"I’m going to sleep, and I won’t renege on my promise to you; the city center..." She was mid-sentence when her head tilted to the side, and she fell asleep.

The Two-headed Wolf guarding the door remained motionless. I went downstairs and walked out of the stone building, and none of the wolves inside moved at all.

Wuyong didn’t ask about the werewolf or the hundreds of Two-headed Wolves who died by my hands; I found her a bit incomprehensible. She clearly said these wolves were her family, yet she doesn’t seek revenge for family. Is it that only the living count as family, not the dead?

I looked at the stone building, deciding to save some Karmic Fire. Although Wuyong seemed erratic, her words should be trustworthy.

I followed my own markers back to the small stone house. Qinghan was standing at the door, not sure whether she was keeping watch or waiting for me.

Wang Le grinned as he saw me return, "You’re back! Professor Chen was just about to go out to find you."

Inside, Mike sat alone in a corner, like a lone wolf, not looking quite right.

I glanced at Qinghan, and her expression wasn’t much better, so I turned to Wang Le.

"Caring about you, you know, the two of them have differing opinions." Wang Le spoke euphemistically, but I understood his meaning.

Mike had already been unhappy with Qinghan having me take risks alone, and now seeing I hadn’t returned for a while, he must be blaming our Professor Chen.

"I found quite a few traps, took some time to mark them."

"What’s wrong with your leg?" Doctor Du, suffering from occupational disease, gave me a once-over, scanning for any injuries.

She noticed my pant leg full of holes. If the pants were bitten to this extent, the leg wouldn’t be fine either.

"Oh, no big deal, encountered a bunch of particularly strange bugs that wanted to eat my pants. Such shameless creatures," I joked.

Doctor Du wasn’t as easygoing as last time, lifting my pant leg. Seeing there was indeed no problem, she felt relieved.

"Hey, why are we so unlucky to encounter bugs that only eat meat and not pants?" Huang Zaijiang chuckled.

"Did you find the wolf den?" Wang Le asked.

I knew it in my heart, so Qinghan told him I was looking for the wolf den. No wonder Mike had such a strong reaction; he must think Qinghan is naive, throwing lives away on purpose.
