Chapter 439: Chapter 259: The Scroll

Ji Zhenzong still remembered that when he first came to this stone room, no matter from which angle he looked, those tiger’s eyes seemed to be glaring at him, which was eerily strange.

He had just settled in when a voice suddenly echoed in the stone room: "What trouble have you caused today?"

The voice was coarse, fierce, and carried a languid overtone; most notably, it rang out in this tiny space meant for a single person, enough to scare the soul out of anyone. However, Ji Zhenzong seemed to have become accustomed to such frights, and so he simply bowed his head and said softly, "I killed three senior brothers!"

After a couple of breaths, the voice then said, "You, someone usually as timid as a mouse, have finally grown the guts to kill?" There was a hint of surprise in the tone.

Ji Zhenzong’s eyes reddened, and his legs went weak; gone was the brazen courage of killing as he thoroughly explained the cause and effect of the murders.

The coarse voice laughed and cursed: "I told you long ago that living a life of bearing and grudging isn’t the way; you never believed it. Now see, if you don’t kill, others will find you to bring bad luck, forcing you to kill. Hmm, this job of killing those three was done well, very well!" He actually praised the three deceased.

Ji Zhenzong muttered, "I’m really scared after killing someone, I don’t want to stay in Guangcheng Palace anymore!"

"Then don’t stay... No, that’s not right, you have to leave the day after tomorrow at the latest!" the coarse voice said hastily, "Have you forgotten what you promised us?"

"I...I remember." Ji Zhenzong spoke quietly and seemed very reluctant.

The coarse voice angrily retorted, "Must I tell you hundreds of times! A man should value honesty and righteousness above all; a promise made is as sacred as a golden word and must be fulfilled! What I detest most in my life are those who betray and abandon righteousness; if you dare to fail us, once we break free from these walls, you’ll be the first one we seek to settle accounts with!"

Ji Zhenzong thought to himself, if I don’t help you, you might never get out in your lifetime, and hunting me down might not be so easy. But these words he dared not say and could only agree submissively. After pondering for a moment, he said, "That Python Killing Fist is really effective; I took people down in just a few moves, even those senior brothers who are always so high and mighty. Can you teach me a few more moves?"

Python Killing Fist? The voice sounded stunned, and after a while, it burst into an earth-shattering laugh: "Python Killing Fist? Python Killing Fist! Well said, indeed Python Killing Fist. I must tell the originator of the technique, to see if he bursts into thunderous rage! That is... if he’s still alive."

"Hmm, what? I know you’re almost ninety-nine percent sure he’s still alive, but isn’t there always an exception to everything? If I had known how troublesome this task would be, I would have never agreed to it..."

The voice elongated its tones, pondering and answering itself; Ji Zhenzong was used to the oddity and did not interrupt. After a while, the voice changed the topic and asked:

"Alright, alright, I’ll get to the point. It’s just your luck; who would try to calculate against such a fool? Hey, Ji, I’m asking you, you mentioned that someone among those three unlucky fellows cried out miserably when you killed them, but Jade Field was silent from beginning to end, wasn’t it?"

"Yes. I found it very strange as well."

"No one else around? You didn’t see anyone else on your way here?"

"No one! At least... I didn’t notice anyone."

"Pshh!" The coarse voice disdainfully said, "You, as insignificant as an ant, if someone wanted you to remain undetected, there would be countless people in this world who could accomplish that. Hmm, tell you what, when you leave, go out the other side, don’t go back the way you came, to avoid being caught red-handed!"

Ji Zhenzong was stunned, "Someone is following me?"

"Most likely there is!" The coarse voice said coldly, "If they are not calculating against you, why would they help you hide the screams of those who died? It seems that it’s not someone from your Sect; otherwise, there’d be no need for such sneaking around. That’s right, the grand ceremony is imminent; it’s probably someone from another Sect who got curious and wanted to see what kind of drama you’re playing out, whether it’s magnificent or a total mess."

Pausing for a moment, he then asked, "When is the grand ceremony taking place the day after tomorrow, tell me again?"

"It starts at the hour of Si (9 a.m.)!"

"Good, remember that you must come here at that time!" the coarse voice said with satisfaction, "Now, get out!"

Ji Zhenzong nodded blankly, then suddenly remembered: "Weren’t you going to teach me a couple more Divine Skills?"

"When the hell did I promise you that?" The coarse voice bellowed with rage but then lowered its volume, "Once the major event is accomplished the day after tomorrow, I’ll pass on a supreme skill to you, ensuring you’ll never have to worry about your livelihood!"
