Chapter 550: The Accuser and the Adversary.

Serena walked out of the carriage to cleanse the last spring and noticed it looked abandoned. She looked around and noticed the corruption in the air compared to the last two springs she had cleansed. She knew there should be guards that guarded the spring, but this one she found nobody.

"You should stay here and keep your eyes wide open," Serena said to the coachman as she looked at the spring water under the cliff surrounded by trees and a building on the side. "Looks like the guards here drank the water not too long ago," she pointed out as she looked at the fresh blood on the building’s wall and around it.

"Yes, Your Holiness," the coachman nodded, gulping nervously when he also spotted the trails of blood.

Serena released divine energy from her body to lure the guards since corruption would feel threatened by divine energy. When divine energy spread widely, she heard a screech in the distance, and then another until the screeches overlapped each other.

Serena looked up on top of the hill and saw nine guards that were still on the second stage where they had become undead. All of the guards didn’t hesitate to jump down from such a height and land on the spring. The guards ran toward her with their bulging eyes and bodies covered in open wounds that revealed their flesh and bones.

Serena was ready to use divine power to cleanse them when suddenly all the guards stopped charging as soon as they walked out of the spring. The guards looked at something in the sky before all of them turned around and ran away. Serena furrowed her brows and tilted her head in confusion, but when she turned around and looked at the sky, her eyes flinched. Three Fallen Watchers were floating in the sky with their angelic wings and demonic wings.

"You should go-" Before Serena could warn the coachman, a fire burned the carriage along with the coachman and the horse. They turned into ashes in just a matter of seconds before the coachman could even scream.

Serena clenched her fists when she took a few steps away from the flame. She watched the three Fallen Watchers descend and land in front of the flames. Their wings spread widely, and when they folded their wings, the flame was extinguished.

"It’s an opportunity to find you here, Lilith," a Fallen Watcher spoke, his gentle voice matched with his appearance, a lean and toned ashen body and hair.

"I must say, it’s indeed an opportunity," Serena replied as she looked at the three of them. "Why are you here? You’re not the ones that are assigned to take over this continent, are you?" She asked. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"No, we are not," the second Fallen Watcher shook her head, her cracked skin like an old statue, her long black messy hair covering half of her face. "We are here to assist them," she revealed.

"How generous of you to tell me that," Serena smirked, hiding the nervousness underneath.

Serena knew that those Fallen Watchers were strong and at their primes, and she didn’t know if she could fight them all when she required some time to release her full power. She was in a dangerous situation that she knew there was no way out of it, not when she was alone and in the middle of nowhere.

"It’s quite ironic to see you doing a good deed, Lilith. We have been watching you this whole time," the third Fallen Watcher spoke, his broken armor and muscular body underneath being enough to tell that he was a battle angel, or used to be.

"Ironic in what way? I have been helping humans, am I not? Just because I chose to not bow and kneel, that doesn’t mean I’m incapable of showing compassion and kindness," Serena crossed her arms, trying to defuse the tension and tried to gather as much information as she could. "And? Is there a reason why you have been following me?" She asked and looked at the three of them.

The three Fallen Watchers looked at each other, wondering what they should do to Serena. They knew that Serena was a powerful individual that could defeat them easily just like last time. There was one way to answer that, and that was to ask their master first, Satan.

A portal suddenly appeared behind them, a void that could cut through time and space. A figure that came out of it, Satan, in her long black gown, barefoot and her black hair that dragged on the ground. A smile appeared on her face when she saw Serena, another encounter with her, alone.

"My, my. We meet again so soon," Satan walked toward Serena and the Fallen Watchers moved aside to unblock her path. "Aren’t you an interesting one, always alone, away from the pack," she tilted her head.

Serena didn’t know if this was a good thing or a bad thing. She did plan to meet Satan again, but after she had someone powerful with her, which was Sanya. She didn’t have any leverage or opportunity to bargain because she was powerless on her own.

"Oh, don’t be so afraid of me. There’s no need to have any leverage to face me," Satan chuckled softly.

Serena’s face turned pale when Satan could read her thoughts. That was when she realized Satan had regained her power, the power that made her who she was and befitting of her title.

"Yes, I’m quite fortunate that I regained my power after I came back to His kingdom," Satan stood in front of Serena and slowly put her hand on Serena’s cheek. Her hand was bigger than Serena’s face, making it not impossible to crush Serena’s head if she wanted to. "So, let me see what you want from me..." She muttered and began to look into Serena’s thoughts without permission, without any chance for Serena to hide everything.

Satan narrowed her eyes when she found out what had happened to Rasmus and what Video was scheming behind everyone’s back. She then furrowed her brows when she didn’t get any useful information about Rasmus’ plan for West Neva since Aris was the one in charge. She didn’t care enough about Aris, Erlina, and Serena’s plans to gain their influence in West Neva.

"That old friend of mine is really cunning, isn’t he?" Satan chuckled when she talked about Videl. "He managed to pull this off, but interestingly, he was still no match for Rasmus’ mind to see through schemes," she smirked as she pulled her hand away from Serena’s cheek.

Satan liked what she saw because there was a fracture in Rasmus’ team, but she knew that there was no chance for her to break in. She turned around, folding her arms before she tapped her finger on her chin, thinking deeply. She was thinking about Rasmus’ scheme of letting the cult and the Zevrathi summon the angels as a precaution to deal with her and her force.

Satan’s expression hardened and her eyes narrowed, trying to decipher Rasmus’ mind that she still hadn’t fully grasped yet. She wanted to know what drove him to make such a decision, at what point he would take matters into a gamble and where he drew the line. She wanted to know the mind that kept her fail her conquest and sabotaging her plans.

"Desperation? That’s too simple..." Satan muttered to herself as she walked back and forth slowly and gracefully. "Lack of power? Perhaps..." She tapped her chin repeatedly. "What could push him into the corner?" She hummed, tilting her head.

"Strange..." Satan murmured. "For someone who schemes this much, his shadow is remarkably... quiet," Satan glanced at Serena, after she found out how loyal Serena or Lilith was toward Rasmus. Rasmus was the only human being that had seen Lilith’s past and made her embrace it.

Satan sighed as she unfolded her arms, letting them rest on her sides.

"You have your choice now, Lilith... or should I call you Serena now?" Satan asked. "You want to strike a deal with me, to deal with Videl’s scheme. However, you also want the same thing with the cult, the Zevrathis, and the angels. Choose, which side you dare to carry the burden," she pointed her hand at Serena, giving her a chance to speak up her mind.

"My soul is still the same, but my existence isn’t. Call me whatever you like," Serena answered, her hands locked into balls of fists, fear and anxiety still overwhelming her. "The angels saw me as nothing but a death sentence, worthless, you don’t," she pointed out.

"Oh? But Rasmus planned to use the angels to fight against me, but are you sure that you want to do the opposite? Are you sure you want to place him in a corner?" Satan slowly raised her brows. "Although, I don’t really mind which side you’re asking for help with. Because in the end..." She paused to stand in front of Serena, and then a cold and calculated smile appeared on her face. "The consequences are yours to burden," she revealed.

"God," Serena muttered as she slowly lifted her head to look Satan in the eyes. "You’re facing the army of God. Are you not scared?" She asked.

Satan glanced up at the sky for a moment before she averted her gaze to the side.

"Of course I am," Satan answered with a smile on her face. "I see what you’re trying to say here, Serena. You’re wondering if I’m powerful enough to fight them and win against them? You’re wondering if I helped you to deal with Videl and gain more power, that would give me a chance to win against His army? Well, the answer is depends on how far He would involve Himself," she answered before Serena could ask the question.

Serena narrowed her eyes, not knowing what to react to the answer to her question.

"However, as long as Videl has no chance of winning the so-called bet that none of us know what it is, that’s good enough for me," Satan leaned down, her face right in front of Serena’s, releasing a scent that was uniquely hers that couldn’t be described. "That also applies to the angels, but either way, you’re placing the person you trust into a place that he shouldn’t," her eyes narrowed, smiling at Serena’s conflicting feelings.

When Serena was about to give an answer, Satan suddenly pressed Serena’s lips with her index finger.

"Ahh, no..." Satan shook her head slowly. "You’re not leaving until you give your answer," she grinned.
