The King's Lover-Chapter 461: Hardly
There wasn’t much tutoring that happened that night, and Rose soon found herself in bed, entangled in the sheets with Caius.
She woke up the next day with him looking down at her with a very satisfied look on his face. She was very tempted to headbutt him, but he looked so pleased with himself that she ended up enjoying his delight.
"Good morning, Rose," he said and leaned down to kiss the top of her head while his arm remained around her.
Rose couldn’t even pull away if she wanted to. She felt his warm lips touch her slightly cool forehead as she said, "Good morning, Your Majesty." She tried to sound cold but failed.
"Did you rest well?"
"I did."
Silence.
Then, with a grumpy voice, he asked, "Isn’t this the part where you ask about me?"
Rose couldn’t even pretend she didn’t expect his question. "Oh, Your Majesty, dare I ask how well you slumbered?" she asked with so much exaggeration that she couldn’t help laughing at the end.
Caius chuckled alongside her. "Very well," he replied with glee as he slowly let go of her.
Rose didn’t rush out of bed; rather, she sat upright and stretched her arms, then recalled she was naked. Grabbing the covers, she pulled them up to her collarbone.
Caius looked at her with a knowing look and was clearly about to say something, but Rose shot him a glare that sealed his lips. He smirked and simply shrugged his shoulders.
"What does Your Majesty plan to do today?" Rose asked, she wanted to remind him of his promise.
As she waited for him to reply, she slowly got out of bed, pulling the sheet with her. She bent to pick up her nightdress that was some distance away from the bed and Caius was immediately distracted by the sight of her backside.
Rose picked up the nightdress and slipped it over her head before turning around to look at Caius, who didn’t even bother to pretend he wasn’t staring. Rose narrowed her eyes at him.
"What did I say?" she tossed the covers at him. Rose didn’t miss what she had just done but it didn’t feel as though he would get angry at this. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Caius caught them easily. "Boring," he simply said. "I could spend all day with you if that is what you want."
"Did you forget the part where you promised to see your father?"
Caius tossed the covers to the other side of the bed and slowly got out of bed. He walked to where she stood, close enough that she had to tilt her head all the way back just to see his face. She had stopped wondering about why he was so comfortable naked.
"I didn’t," he said and caressed the side of her face.
"Good," Rose said and tried to step back, but Caius caught her by the waist.
Rose’s eyes widened as she immediately knew what was about to follow. However, a loud knock echoed in the room and Rose let out a loud sigh of relief.
Caius narrowed his eyes and moved his hand downward. "Don’t think you have been saved yet. I will be back," he rolled the words around his mouth like a threat as he sized her up and down.
"Have a wonderful day, Your Majesty." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on his lips.
Caius was too stunned to react, and she knew that was the only reason it didn’t turn into more than a kiss. Rose didn’t know why she did it, but she thought it would be nice to give him a little reward when he was about to see his father because she requested it.
Besides, his reaction was reason enough; she had to do everything not to show a pleased expression. She placed her hands on his chest to push him away and out of her room, but he wouldn’t budge. He grabbed her hands on his chest and leaned in closer.
"That hardly counts as a goodbye kiss."
Rose had regret all over her expression as he leaned in and kissed her; his hand on her back kept her in place while his hands on her wrists made sure she couldn’t push him away.
Caius didn’t break the kiss until the knocks got louder. Caius smiled at her flushed face and hard breathing. Rose shook her head and said, "Satisfied?"
"Hardly," he smirked and squeezed her rear.
Rose tried to pull away, and this time, Caius let her. "Your Majesty, you have to leave—"
"I know," he said and turned away from her, walking towards the wardrobe.
"Your Majesty."
"Yes, my de—" Caius’s words were cut short as he rapidly had to catch his robe that was flying towards him.
"You forgot that," she said with glee and folded her arms as though to tell him to do something about it.
Caius sighed and scratched his stubble. There was a glint in his eyes but he only said, "I suppose I did," and turned around without putting it on. He stepped into the secret passageway naked while Rose stared at him with horror.
As soon as the wardrobe slid back into place, Rose walked to the door and let her maids in. The sisters looked at her with concern.
"Sorry," Rose said with a polite smile. She didn’t offer any explanation; it would be a lie anyway.
"Are you okay?" they asked in unison. They seemed more worried than annoyed.
"I am okay," she replied.
The sisters didn’t pester anymore and helped her get ready for the day. Conversations were minimal except for gossip about the rumors going on in the castle. Rose was just glad that the rumors didn’t concern her and were mostly about the Queen acting weird.
It did solidify Rose’s idea that there was something wrong, and she was right to force Caius to visit his father. Hopefully, he would do that before he came to see her tonight.
After the ladies helped her dress, they curtsied and exited the room but returned moments later with her breakfast.
