Chapter 511: Yes, Your Majesty.

Rose frowned as Caius started to speak. She had expected it to be something about her, but it wasn’t, and she could tell whatever it was, bothered him gravely. He not only took too long to speak, but she could feel his body temperature drop as she lay on him. He seemed to be in discomfort.

"What was it?" she softly asked.

She didn’t care what it was, as long as he was willing to work through it with her, and she could tell he was. Everything he said didn’t feel as though he said it to butter her up; she could tell he meant every word.

His hand on her back stopped moving, and Caius let out a sigh. "I don’t know exactly. All I know is..." he paused again, doing his best to recount it without reliving it. "On the night of my father’s death, Rylen drugged me and left me in Caira’s room. I do not know what occurred. However, when I woke up, she was bare on the chair with a blanket over herself while I was completely naked. I put on my pants and rushed to you."

Rose closed her eyes as Caius spoke, and without meaning to, she had also stopped breathing. She didn’t want to say or make any movement that would interrupt him while he spoke.

She could remember that day. He had clung to her, and it wasn’t until lunch that he started to remotely get better. She had assumed he was mourning his father, but to think he had gone through this.

Rose slowly opened her eyes as he finished speaking, pressing her body into his, hugging him as tightly as she could.

"I am sorry you had to go through that, Your Majesty."

Rose wondered if Caira had known her marriage wasn’t real and had done this in retaliation, but she couldn’t believe Rylen would easily betray his own cousin.

"Do you still want to marry me even though I may have lain with the princess?" Caius asked.

"What?" Rose asked, lifting her head. "Why would I fault you for actions you had no control over? And we don’t know if you did. She might just want it to seem that way." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

There were too many vague things and inconsistencies. Caius had also been drugged. She was almost certain the princess wanted it look that way, and if she was wrong...

Rose realized that she was pissed. The fact that another person had dared touch him irked her. She had more respect for the princess, and she thought the princess also had respect for herself, but for her to be willing to do something so slimy filled Rose with disgust.

Caius felt a little relieved at Rose’s words, but the worst wasn’t over yet. "She is pregnant," he simply said.

Rose put her hand over her mouth as she was overcome with shock.

"I don’t know if it’s mine or Rylen’s."

"What?" Rose asked, dumbstruck.

"The baby could be mine or Rylen’s."

"I understand what Your Majesty said, I was just so surprised," Rose replied. "I had been confused as to why Lord Rylen would betray you for the princess. I didn’t realize it was because he could also be the father."

Caius suddenly felt self-conscious. Rose was looking at him directly as he spoke, and it was hard to figure out what she was thinking. He only knew that she was thinking a lot. Her brows occasionally furrowed, and she moved her hands slightly even when she wasn’t speaking.

She was clearly shocked by what he was telling her but she didn’t seem angry at him or disappointed.

"He said he wanted to give her a chance to choose."

Rose frowned. "It doesn’t sound like just some affair." Just terrible choices.

"Rylen says it’s love, and he plans to win the princess back, but with a baby on the way, she can decide to do whatever she wants!"

"Your Majesty," Rose gently called and moved a strand of hair out of his face. "I am not leaving you."

He was so worried and bothered; she could feel it. Rose wished she could comfort him better or find a solution to this weird situation. To think he had to carry this on his shoulders.

To be betrayed by the one you trust the most must hurt, and not only had he been betrayed, but at the worst possible time just after losing his father, and he had to bear all that alone.

She leaned forward and kissed his forehead as he would occasionally do to her, then rested her forehead against his.

"This isn’t going to stop me from marrying you."

It actually made her want to marry him more, but that was too embarrassing to say. Some princess wasn’t going to use tricks to take Caius away, and it didn’t matter what the outcome was; they were going to deal with it.

"What about the child?" Caius asked gently while Rose rested her head on him.

It was weird. The problem wasn’t solved, but he felt better than he did. He really needed her, and he never wanted her to leave him.

"If the child is yours," Rose felt her heart squeeze a little, but this wasn’t Caius’s fault, and she knew the painstaking steps he had taken to avoid Caira, even going as far as to chase her from his bedchamber, not caring about the rumors.

"Yes," Caius whispered.

"Then the crown will not neglect his blood."

It was hard to say this, but the child hadn’t committed any offense, and it would be hypocritical of her to hate and dismiss a child because of the actions of the mother.

Caius wrapped his arms around Rose, pressing his face against her chest. He didn’t care if he couldn’t breathe. He really was so lucky. How did he find someone like Rose?

"Your Majesty, I fear you might split me in two."

Caius rolled to the side but didn’t let go of Rose, nor did he say anything. He didn’t need to; she understood just how he felt.

Rose watched Caius cling to her, and she wondered if she had said the right thing. It didn’t mean she wanted Caius to marry Caira—absolutely not!

Her first request would be to send her away from the castle as soon as they could do that.

However, she wouldn’t sit back and let Caius deny his child, for the sake of the child. Rose knew this was bound to create a lot of problems politically, but they would cross that bridge when they got there.

"Rose," Caius called.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"Will you marry me?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. I would want nothing more."
