Chapter 100: Advice (3)

"Are you ready to go, Hazel?" Renee asked, rubbing Hazel’s left arm. "You look like someone spoiled your mood. Who was it?"

"No one spoiled anything mother," Hazel said, smiling to show that she was fine. She didn’t need her mother to make an enemy list.

"Is it that you are going to miss the prince?" Renee whispered.

It was unfortunate that the newly formed couple was being separated already.

"Mother,’ Hazel whined.

"I see. You will be near him soon so just push through being at home for one more night. I want to enjoy having my girls at home one last time properly. Where is your father?" Renee asked, looking around for her husband.

"He is speaking to the king," Helena informed her mother. ’Hazel’s father-in-law.’

Renee sighed because this meant they were to wait a little longer to go home. "Prince Tobias," she addressed Tobias as he walked up to them. Seeing him changed her mood.

"When those two start talking it is hard to make them part," Tobias said, watching his father speak to Nathan. They were getting a little ahead of themselves with acting like family already. "Have a safe trip back to your home."

"Thank you. I’m sorry that we are taking Hazel from you so early when it is time for you to celebrate. I will pick out a nice gift to make up for it," said Renee.

"Rather than a gift, how about you address me by just Tobias or call me son? We are to be family so I would like for you to drop the title when we are alone. I look forward to calling you mother," Tobias said, ignoring the look Hazel was giving him. He had to charm her mother starting now.

"Oh my," Renee said, covering her mouth with her hand. "Can I do that?"

"Of course! It would be awkward if you keep addressing me as a prince when you are to be my mother-in-law. It’s a secret we can keep between us for when we are alone. I’ll address you as mother in secret. Do we have a deal?" Tobias asked, holding out for the deal to be shaken on.

"Deal," Renee agreed, shaking Tobias’s hand. It was the prince’s request so she was not going to turn him down. At least in private this would be a little normal. "Congratulations on your engagement once more. I am thrilled that you picked my daughter. I wish the two of you the best and one day, I want to hear the story of how you fell in love."

"I can tell you right now. It started with your lovely daughter here turning down a dance with me. Truthfully, Hazel was the one I wanted to dance with at the ball since she was the only woman that I was comfortable around. Imagine my surprise when she didn’t want to dance with me. My heart," Tobias said, touching his chest with his right hand.

Hazel held her mother’s arm and tugged on it so they would move away from Tobias. "Mother, maybe we should go sit in the carriage."

Her mother would fall for Tobias being heartbroken and love him.

"Nonsense, Hazel. We should wait for your father here," said Renee.

Helena shared Hazel’s want to go to the carriage instead of standing here to listen to the prince speak about the dance. Of how from the very beginning he had wanted Hazel and she was a fool to not realise. She had a feeling that he was trying to hurt her because she had brought up David.

This was not going to work on her since she had moved on from the prince. Tobias was not the man Helena dreamed of and she would find someone better while her poor sister was stuck with Tobias.

"We all fall in love in the strangest ways. I remember falling for Nathan at a ball. I must admit that my husband isn’t the greatest dancer, but I saw that he was trying to impress me and it made me laugh," Renee said, smiling as she thought of the past. "Regardless of what anyone may say, I am glad that you went with your heart."

"I am not just saying this because my daughter is the one you picked. Royals should get to find the one they were meant to love too. I will always be on your side with what happened today and you protecting Hazel from being tested. Should you ever need my help, don’t hesitate," Renee said as she would do anything for him.

"Thank you, mother. Do you mind if I have a word alone with Hazel to say goodbye?" Tobias asked.

"Not at all. I need to go get my husband or we might end up spending all day in the palace. Excuse us," Renee said, taking Helena’s hand so they could walk together.

"You are already trying to make my mother love you. Sadly, it is working," Hazel muttered. At least one of them was properly bonding with the other’s mother.

"Sadly? You should be happy that we are getting along. In the coming days, I will be spoiling your mother so try to keep up. Your father might be hard to win over, but I can have your mother in the palm of my hands so when my dearest Hazel is upset with me, I will go to my new mother," Tobias revealed his plans.

Hazel had no issue with him spoiling her mother. Her mother will greatly enjoy it and it would be a good distraction from what was to come. "Go ahead and spoil her. Since I am allowing it, tell me what I can do to grow closer to your mother besides becoming a good queen. I don’t want that to be all I speak about with your mother."

"Did something happen? All the guests are gone," Tobias said as Hazel once again moved her hand before he could touch it.

"No. I just want our families to all get along. It hurts when the person you are at odds with is your family. I am lucky that Helena and I are starting over. Now we can all be around each other as long as you do not bring up the ball again," Hazel said, holding Tobais’s hand since there wasn’t anyone around to see them.

She had forgotten today’s gathering was now over.

The guests were gone and the men from the court had all wandered off. The only ones left were her family, the Castros, and a few maids.

Tobias didn’t believe the little feud between Hazel and Helena was over yet considering Helena was bringing up another man just yesterday. He thought of telling Hazel about it, but since she thought she was back to normal with her sister, now was not a good time especially when her family was looking forward to having her at home one more time.

"If I visit your home in the dead of the night, would you open the window-"

"I never once did that for you when I was here so what makes you think that I would do that there? And we have guards. They’ll attack anyone they see moving around in the dark," Hazel warned Tobias. Unfortunately, she believed that he would be so crazy to visit her.

"Then since I can’t spend the evening with you, I have one request. When you return, I want a kiss. Here," Tobias tapped his cheek.

"Very well," Hazel agreed. A kiss on the cheek wasn’t something she could not do.

"And then here," Tobias added, tapping his lips. "Honestly, I am a man who enjoys being kissed anywhere but on my ass so you can pick where you like."

"Get away from me, Tobias."
