Chapter 265: Together (4)

"Tobias, we must get up to prepare for dinner and the floor is a bit uncomfortable."

Hazel looked out the window at the sky which was changing. They had stayed in this room longer than she planned to, sending away anyone who came to disturb them. The sky was light blue when they returned here and now it was turning dark.

Tobias kept his hand around Hazel’s waist. Her head rested on his other arm. "Just a little longer."

"There will be a lot of complaints since you sent so many away. I hope it was nothing important," said Hazel.

While Hazel enjoyed having Tobias to herself for many hours, she didn’t want to keep him away from his duties for too long.

"Does this mean you will not be coming to my room to sleep tonight?" She asked since he needed to catch up.

"Why wouldn’t I be there? You have not taken me away from anything important. We made good use of the time your party was to go on for and who should criticise me for being with my wife? I need moments like this to keep myself sane," Tobias said, closing his eyes to go back to sleep.

All the men who complained must not like seeing their wives. They couldn’t expect anyone else to be the same way.

"Tobias, do not go back to sleep. It is time that we get dressed and see your parents. We mustn’t be late for dinner. I have much to do to get ready so," Hazel said, sitting up to leave, but his arm wouldn’t let her move. "Let go of me."

"Why must they come now?" Tobias groaned.

His parents wanted to be away from the palace so why didn’t they stay away? Tobias was only getting a little rest before he would ask Hazel to go again.

"I do not know but what I do know is that you must get up. If you make me late, I will not welcome you into my bedroom tonight. It is the first time that we are seeing them since a few weeks ago and Sofia will enjoy all of us together. Release me," Hazel said once more.

Hazel was trying her best to avoid giving Tabitha something to complain about.

Hazel and Tabitha tried to move forward and start anew. There wasn’t a way for them to be at odds these days since Tabitha wasn’t in the palace too often but when they did have to meet Hazel tried to do what she could to avoid a disagreement.

"Should we just invite them to dinner in this room-"

"Of course not!" Hazel exclaimed.

How could Tobias even think of that after all the things that they did here? Hazel wouldn’t be able to face Jeffrey or Tabitha and then there was poor innocent Sofia.

Tobias laughed as he said what he said just to have Hazel panic. "Just give me one more minute of this, Hazel. I feel like a normal couple who gets to lay around as much as they want all day."

"Couples are only like that after they wed. Do you not listen to all the complaints about intimacy declining after the first few months? Well, for some. I do not know what I can do to get you to not visit my bedroom," Hazel said as everything she tried failed.

Tobias still came around during the times of the month that she bled to look after her instead of leaving it to a maid. She thought it would be embarrassing to face him should she stain the bed during her sleep and Tobias should see it in the morning.

Tobias had taken care of it by not being freaked out and even commented on the fact that he knew it was part of being a woman. Hazel was always told by her tutors that she should do her best to keep it away from her husband as such a thing wasn’t something he wanted to see.

’Tutors are a bit useless for some of us,’ Hazel thought.

She was prepared to be a wife for a large part of her youth and what she was taught wasn’t useful during her marriage to Tobias.

Thinking of this, Hazel let him lay with her for a little longer. He was deserving of it so Hazel would just wear the dress that was somewhere on the floor to dinner and then wash up when she returned to her room after.

"I can hardly wait for snow to cover every corner of the palace. It is beautiful," Hazel said, looking out the window once more. "We should go for a walk when you have time."

"You mean for you to play in the snow? I would have never thought you liked playing around in the snow like children do," Tobias replied.

"We must enjoy the season when it is here. The snow is too beautiful for us to not play around in it. I wonder if Helena is getting the same view as us. She loved snow more than I did. She once tried to sleep with snow in her bed and cried the next morning when her bed was soaked," Hazel chuckled.

’She wasn’t bright from young,’ Tobias thought. He wouldn’t excuse that Helena was only a child then.

"I’m picking out something to send to Helena and then we must have something ready to send for the child she has next. Helena is eager to return to Lockwood and when she does, I want a big family dinner. We can invite our friends as well. Have a small party like a ball. What do you think?" Hazel asked as she didn’t want to do something he wouldn’t like.

"We can have a big dinner and let them spend the night here. I am all for it, Hazel. Whatever makes you happy. It cannot be during the time that we will have our trip. I am almost done with the planning. I only need one of your maids to pack for you," said Tobias.

"I will send Julia or Daisy to speak with you. I’ve given you plenty more time to rest. Please let me go and help me to get dressed. The sooner we get dinner over with, the sooner we can go back to laying together," Hazel said, hoping this would sway him.

It worked as she felt his hand move from her waist.

"Hazel," Tobias called, holding her hand before she could get up. "I have some things to do in secret but I will share them with you when the time is right. You will trust me, right?"

"Must you truly ask? I will trust you," Hazel answered. She decided that at that time, she would share with Tobias the thoughts she had about harming herself.

With that all out in the open, Hazel believed that they might be better.
