Chapter 292: The talk (4)

Tobias laughed despite the fact he was fuming inside. Three years? His mother knew far longer than he did that Grant wanted Linda on the throne, yet she didn’t say a word to him. "Did you stay silent about that because you wanted Linda to take Hazel’s spot?"

"Don’t be absurd," Tabitha replied.

"It is possible because of how you once disliked my wife. I do not doubt that you were looking forward to there being a change and I feel like there was more that you knew. I should throw you in the dungeon," Tobias said as she fell under the list of people who were a danger to Hazel.

Tabitha didn’t hurt Hazel but her silence with Grant’s intentions could not be ignored.

"I hope you are not trying to claim that I sat by and allowed Grant to ruin every chance she had for a baby. I wanted an heir as soon as possible," Tabitha argued.

She had been hard on Hazel to have a child. Why would she allow Grant to kill the kingdom’s heirs?

"You need to be careful about what you speak," Tabitha advised Tobias. She had nothing to do with Grant and she did not want to be tied by him. "Do not try to make me out to be a monster over something I forgot to tell you."

Tabitha continued to plead her case by saying, "Many were looking to gather women to be your mistresses from the beginning so I just thought it was amusing to hear that Grant wanted Linda to be one."

Tobias looked away from his mother. He couldn’t stand the sight of her now. She wouldn’t be able to fool him. "It always seems like you are never interested in protecting Hazel. My wife," he reminded his mother of why Hazel was important. "We were unable to have a child and instead of offering comforting words, you criticised her."

"Tobias. I never wanted for you to be without a child. Will you stand here and try to paint me as some monster who wanted Hazel to suffer losing a child so many times? Your anger should only be on Grant. I simply stayed out of-"

"Because it involved Hazel. I know you, mother. You would have liked to see Hazel witness her best friend become my woman. Linda was the one you wanted to be queen from the beginning. I can’t trust you," Tobias concluded.

Tobias had once made the mistake of letting the people close to him and Hazel get away with hurting her. He could not do it again. From the start, he was prepared to get rid of anyone who might be a danger to his wife. It couldn’t be helped that his mother was one.

"Wait," Jeffrey tried to step in before it got messy. "She didn’t know that full-"

"I am tired of you making excuses for her. Will there not be a day that you hold her accountable and not ask that I be the bigger person simply because she is my mother?" Tobias questioned, just as annoyed with his father as he was with his mother.

"I am trying to keep the peace here. We know who the enemy of the king was. It is not your mother. She should have told you but how was she to know that his plans were this much? Your mother is not cruel to let Hazel be hurt that way," said Jeffrey.

Like always, Tobias found that his father just didn’t get it. He didn’t want his mother to allow Hazel to get hurt in any kind of way. Regardless of what his mother felt about Hazel, this was his wife and the future mother of his children. His parents should want to help and protect her.

"I honestly wouldn’t care if the two of you were no longer in my life," Tobias confessed. If this was the way it was going to be with his mother doing sly things and his father trying to cover it up, he was fine without it. "Hazel and I will have children one day and I don’t want you two around them."

"Now you are going too far," Tabitha replied, looking at her husband for him to talk some sense into their son. Tobias had to be out of his mind to want to keep her from her grandchildren. "You shall not place what Grant did on me."

"I am not. I am considering the ways you have tried to hurt my wife. How am I to have you around my family when you don’t care for Hazel? I have to protect my family and unfortunately, I cannot trust you. You didn’t join in putting something in her tea, so I shall not place you in the dungeon," Tobias decided. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

He continued, "However, I don’t want to sit with either one of you. I don’t want to meet like we are now-"

"Tobias!"

"Because it is not genuine," Tobias spoke over his mother. "I won’t ban you from the palace since Sofia still needs you. I forbid you from approaching my wife from this moment on. Until you are ready to admit to the things you have done and the things you have allowed, stay far away from me."

Tobias never thought there would be a day he would cut his parents out of his life. They had done this, not him. They kept making excuses.

"Now if you would excuse me, I have a conversation to finish," Tobias said, wanting to find Liam.

"Son," Jeffrey said, reaching out to Tobias. This was going a little too far considering Tabitha didn’t do anything wrong. It might have just slipped her mind to tell Tobias about Grant. Back then, why would she think that Grant would harm a member of the Castro family?

Jeffrey felt like Tobias was overwhelmed by what happened yesterday and was taking his anger out on them when he had no reason to. "You know that your mother would never stop you from having a child."

"I don’t know her these days. I don’t know if she wouldn’t go so far as to see Hazel hurt with losing a child after failing to control her. I am not taking back what I said. Please leave me and my family alone," Tobias replied, taking one last look at his mother before leaving the room.
