Chapter 79: May. Classes and Grades.

I couldn’t move. It was like I was a child being held tightly by two adults from all my limbs.

I was pretty sure I was floating. Right by my side was Lucien. He was floating too. Green sparks of lightning sparkled from our bodies.

The towering gothic black castle that touched skies was on flames. Brilliant red flames that pierced the eye.

Screams from miles away could be heard. It was obvious someone had attacked. If nothing happened, we should be the next screaming. Dying.

Where is the Queen?

No one could paralyze her... right?

There’s just no way.

The clock tower like building of the gothic castle fell forward, mixing with the rest of the rubble. The Nocthra Empire’s main castle had officially fallen.

My eyes widened as I saw someone pierce through the violent flames, towards our direction. Was the Queen finally here?

As the flying figure closed in, my gaze dropped. It wasn’t her.

A four foot small girl, with a face covered in tears and her blue hair pulled all the way up because of the speed she was travelling over her ice skate boat whimpered as she saw us.

She was the elf princess.

"Mom and her highness told me to save you too, and... run away. They are coming."

Some light returned on our features. Princess May was a genius. A very powerful Arcana user around the ranks of holy pillars.

There was a meeting going on so some important figures had came to the main castle. But, why is she not in this weird paralyzed state?

"Only vampires seemed to be effected. E-even her highness is effected... Don’t worry, I am sure mom will save her!" She said, reading my thoughts.

That wasn’t good. Her tone sounded like she was saying it to reassure herself. She didn’t seem confident at all.

Who the hell is attacking us?

"This seemed to be a dome type spell. Getting you two out of the radius should allow movement. It will be okay." She said with three nods, touching Lucien’s face.

Next second, we were inside of a ice ball, large enough to fit all three of us.

I couldn’t feel any movement in this state but the way May moved her fingers, I could assume we were moving away at absurd speeds.

...

"Are you alright, Lucien?" May close in to Lucien, lifting his face and patting his head.

He nodded without even sparing May a glance. His eyes were glued towards the direction we had escaped, burning with anger.

"Where are we now?" He asked suddenly, pushing away May trying to comfort him.

"Elf territory. At least at it’s border. The dome I told you about, I cannot pass it. But don’t worry!

We are fifteen thousand meters high, and I used mom’s cloak of stealth around the dome. That’s the reason the effect of that paralyze is gone. It’s a mystical grade national tressure, and they cannot even sense us." May said rubbing her chin.

"What the fuck is happening?" May trembled at Lucien’s sharp question.

"Vampires are being killed. I saw one of them, it was a cardinal..."

"So it’s those church pigs?! We should unite with everyone and attack them."

"Outside, they should’ve sensed something weird. The holy pillars and father should be able to break the dome. It should remove the paralyze effect from everybody too."

As Lucien was about reply, "my" vision flashed white.

Next moment, familiar cool breeze tingled my body. By my side was a deep ravine. I was back in the real world.

Alya glanced curiously at me.

I couldn’t help but grab her hand, clench it as hard as I could. This girl has through been hell.

She was confused for a second before tightening her grip around my hand with a soft smile.

We reached the ground soon enough. I took a deep breath first, leaning by the shrine gate as I let down Subaru who was as red a samurai could get.

The breath felt much more fuller. So, even Queen was paralyzed? I couldn’t help but think back to what I’d seen.

May couldn’t be lying. She seemed genuinely worried about Lucien. I wasn’t sure if the feeling extended to Alya. Her capture makes sense now.

But, all of it could be a part of the scheme. Who knows.

There was a burning question that rose after thinking a little bit more, how the fuck did we end up in Mari Swan slave house.

I was such an important figure that they would’ve gladly kept me in elf or Litches territory. We would’ve prepared and fought back.

Did they kick me out because I endangered their lives or was it that Lucien left on his own accord? If it was option one, I could never risk allying with Nocthra Empire. But, I doubted such long lived beings be that much of pussy.

Though, the thought of it couldn’t be blamed on them; vampires, their equal, was wiped out like cattle. None could break the dome in time. If vampires were the target, it would be smarter to abandon them.

But, I had my doubts. The way May looked at Lucien... She was a princess and instead of escaping directly, found us and saved our lives. She seemed genuine.

An individual shouldn’t represent an entire race or the higher up’s opinion but it did gave a good impression.

"It’s been arranged. Two veils of Arcana ascension, novice grade. Two for vampires, one for human...."

Suge said warmly, walking closer to me who was dazed looking at the sky, Subaru rubbing his shins, and Alya sitting by the mountain wall with her arms hugging her knees.

Suge was busy with a spherical communication device so we had left him alone.

"You’re a human right?" Suge’s brows tightened towards Subaru.

"I am."

"From the aura I felt before, you were... Transcendent class? That’s really impressive." Suge grinned. Subaru could only lower his head.

Suge froze, remembering the fact that he lost his hard earned powers recently.

"I don’t get these classes. I heard something about Mythical, now transcendent. Alyndra was overload. Jah was an overload. You’re a saint. And there are those confusing classes too, I don’t get it. Explain like you would to a five year old."

I asked, it was pissing me off, and felt left out when they talked like all this was common knowledge.

Suge’s lips parted. His pupils had dilated fully. He looked like I had asked him to plant bombs all over Sepherdia.

"Luci lost some memories... In Mari Swan cell." Alya first glared at me, than said with a sad face to Suge, who’s shock shifted to pity.

I merely shrugged at her glare. This in no way could blow our identities if we are being honest.

No one is suspecting someone of being an otherworlder. He would’ve just made an excuse to convince himself, himself.

I nodded in apology to her, I guess I should’ve asked her in private. Last night, we just went like rabbits instead of talking about stuff like that. Not that I regretted.

With a sad nod, Suge explained, "Newly awakened Arcana core are classified as Novice. From F class to low D class can be counted in this grade."

"Oh? I wasn’t expecting D class in Novice grade."

Suge just shook his head, "These are classifications just for the Arcana core. Think of it like stamina. Does Stamina equals strength?"

"It doesn’t." I nodded in understanding, so how they can use their "stamina" is why they are rated so high.

"Exactly. These are the talented exception who can’t afford higher levels of ascension veils.

Even the second, Initiate grade is made of fairly rare ingredients. One would need either a hundred gold pounds or a hunting team capable of hunting B+ grade Onis. Initiate is just the peak of D class and lower C class."

What the hell? B+ grade? That’s kind of impossible. And hundred gold pounds?!

"It weeds out the poor, I suppose," I sighed deeply.

"Or people without a backing." Suge smirked, clearly teasing me for refusing to stay at Sepherdia, "Organizations have huge stock on everything and also people capable of getting more."

I gotta get that bag. Or, I will never grow a certain level. Jah’s 3 million gold pound offer sounded very lucrative now. But, I wonder why Nocthra empire didn’t get us these veils. Besides the signature skill awakening reasoning.

Suge continued with a satisfied smile, noticing my tense face. He knew I was considering seriously working together with Sepherdia.

"Adept is the most dense criteria. An average C class should be around this level. It’s purely because of how hard is to get further veils so fighters at this grade, most, never ascend.

Even organizations are very selective about investing for further classes."

I nodded, makes sense. Even if they can get rare materials, if even initiate grade took hunting of B grade Onis, who knew what the hell you’d need to do for ascension at this level.

"Ascendant is where the big guns start. People at this level can level down cities. If someone reached this level, there future is already secured financially as they are very coveted by most organizations. At the peak of C class and average B class."

Than Suge’s face grew extremely serious, "After that level, ascension becomes extremely hard."
