The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha!-Chapter 637 - 8: Squad Five (Part 5)
He sat on a bench beside the construction site, arms crossed, silently watching Erwin.
"What do you think...?" Looking at his expression, even Erwin felt a bit uncertain.
Bar asked, "No salary?"
"Yes, none."
"Land allocation?"
"None either."
"So, essentially, a wandering knight?"
"No, not a wandering knight. A true knight of the Silver Moon Knight Order, under the fifth unit." Erwin hurriedly said, "Remember our childhood dreams? To follow the captain and fight for justice."
"Yes, it was a beautiful dream." Bar sighed.
"We’re about to realize it now, becoming the people we admired as children." Erwin continued, "We will fight for justice, live for justice. Our names will be sung by countless people. We used to admire Carl so much, and now we can do it too."
Erwin’s face was full of excitement.
However, Bar remained indifferent: "Erwin, may I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"Um... those who sing our praises, do they pay?"
"Uh..."
"We live for justice, who lives for us? Who lives for our parents, wives, and children?"
For a moment, Erwin didn’t know what to say.
Bar continued, "Erwin, I am married, I have children. I work here every day because I have to earn money to support my wife and children. Not just my wife and children, my parents are old too, they need me. I have heavy responsibilities, I don’t even dare to take a day off, let alone resign to do something with unknown outcomes."
Erwin stared blankly at Bar.
Taking a deep breath, Bar went on, "I really envy you, always have. You have a father who can help you hold onto your dreams, a carefree life. If you had told me this news a few years ago, I might have gone with you without hesitation."
"A few years earlier? You’re only twenty-two, how much earlier do you want?"
"Early enough when I was easily moved, rushed out regardless of everything in a moment of heat." Bar said softly, "Most people in this world are destined for their outcomes at birth. Erwin, you’ve just obtained a title, perhaps some unknown weapons and equipment, but you have no funds. Without funds, there’s no way to provide life assurance to the members. In such a situation, you should find those nobles without any life pressure, who can fight purely for honor, not us. We all admire the captain, but we are ourselves, and he is he. He is a Lich, we are humans, too many difficulties. This dream might belong to you, but it doesn’t belong to me."
...
When leaving the construction site, Erwin felt dazed, with Bar’s words echoing in his mind.
Cadina quietly followed behind him, saying nothing.
Holding the horse, they walked for quite a while before Erwin softly said, "Should I go find Miss Yilin and ask for some funds, or a land to support the knight order? Or perhaps find someone willing to sponsor us first, let them solve the funding issue for us?"
Cadina blinked at Erwin, without saying a word.
Erwin continued, "But if I do that, how can I prove they are truly coming for faith? And where is my value? Isn’t something prepared by others doable by anyone? Why must it be me?"
Cadina still said nothing.
...
At the third stop, it was already noon when Erwin arrived at the fishing village outside White City where Thales lived. A somewhat rundown fishing village located by the port.
"Excuse me, do you know where Thales’s house is?"
"Thales?"
"Yes, Thales."
"Over there, at the house at the corner." The old man turned back, pointing down the muddy road towards the distance. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
It was a house that looked very dilapidated, the walls were extremely rough, without any signs of plaster. It felt like it was just piled up with bricks, without any decoration.
At the door, there was a sunshade made of wood and rope, looking wobbly, as if it could collapse at any moment.
There was also a white-haired old lady sitting at the door with closed eyes, holding a cane.
Erwin walked over gently and then bent down, softly asked, "Hello, ma’am. Is this Thales’s house?"
"Huh?" The old lady slightly opened her eyes. But, those eyes were a cloudy white, appearing to be blind.
"I said, ma’am, is this Thales’s house?" Erwin shouted, pulling his voice.
"Oh, Thales... Thales is my grandson. Are you his friend?"
"Yes, I’m his childhood friend, we haven’t met for a long time."
"Are you looking for him?"
"Yes, I’m looking for him. Is he home?"
"He’s out at sea, not home."
"When will he be back?"
"I don’t know, I’m also waiting for him."
"You said you’re also waiting for him, do you mean he’ll be back soon?"
The old lady shook her head and said, "I don’t know, but if you wait, he will always come back. I wait for him here every day. If not today, then tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after tomorrow. In any case, he will definitely come back."
Hearing this, Erwin was slightly taken aback.
The wind blew gently, as if the whole world had fallen silent.
After a long time, Erwin asked, "Are there only the two of you left in the family?"
"Two? Yes." The old lady slightly raised her head, seemingly trying to locate Erwin. However, she couldn’t see.
"Thank you, I’ll come again another day." Erwin stepped back his steps, until about five meters away, turned around, and left without looking back.
...
"He won’t go to be a knight with me, even if I find him, he won’t go to be a knight with me." Bowing his head, Erwin silently crossed out Thales’s name from his notebook.
The wind blew gently, pressing down on the wild grass.
The river flowed past, the sunset dyeing everything in a warm color.
Cadina sat beside him, resting her cheek on her hand, watching quietly.
Time ticked by.
Cadina asked softly, "If they all give up, will you give up?"
"No, I won’t give up." Erwin shook his head, "I was born to be a knight, no matter who gives up, I can’t give up."
"So are we still looking for Matthew? I mean the last one."
"No need, it’s meaningless." Erwin bowed his head, putting the notebook away directly.
Just then, a stone flew over Erwin’s head and landed in the river behind him. With a splash.
Erwin looked up and saw someone gradually approaching from a distance.
Dark brown short hair, wearing a gray shirt, wide pants, and straw sandals. Hands in his pockets, looking leisurely, with a face full of stubble.
"Hey! Erwin, what are you doing here? And with a chick?"
This was Matthew, yes, Matthew who had fallen into a thug.
Erwin stood up silently looking at him.
Coming up to Erwin, Matthew looked down at Cadina and then at Erwin, whistled, and said, "I heard you became a knight, and now you’re helping Huoersi train every day, right?"
"Yes." Erwin nodded.
"Hey, not bad." Matthew grinned, nudging Erwin with his elbow, "Got any leads, introduce me in as well. I’m pretty good at fighting, really, not kidding. Plus, I have a gang of buddies."
