The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha!-Chapter 656 - 18: Kapu (4)_2
The heavily scarred Erwin had already been stripped of his armor and shackled with chains.
He sat quietly in the corner, eyes closed and expressionless.
The girl, accompanied by a middle-aged knight, appeared outside the bars, standing quietly and looking at Erwin.
Slowly opening his eyes, Erwin looked at the girl, somewhat bewildered.
The two of them silently stared at each other.
The corners of the girl’s mouth slightly curved upwards.
"Are you the Demon Envoy?" Erwin asked softly.
"Yes. My name is Dovna, Dovna Aiselle," the girl replied.
"This was all a trap, wasn’t it?"
"Back in Aspa, I had already set my eyes on you. How does it feel? Didn’t expect the Demon Envoy to be so young, did you? Your arrival was something I had already anticipated."
"Alright then." Erwin smiled wryly.
"But to be honest, it was quite unexpected. I didn’t think you’d be captured so quickly. I thought it would take at least a few days of struggle."
"I was the only one captured. You didn’t catch the others."
"But the others don’t matter, do they? I’ve investigated your situation thoroughly. Just three ordinary knights with magical armor. It’s the magical armor that’s formidable, not you."
"We are the Silver Moon Knight Fifth Squad."
"Aside from your Fourth Squad, I don’t consider any other squad in the Silver Moon Knight Order noteworthy."
"Is that so? Thank you for your compliment, placing me on par with the other three squads." Erwin smiled wryly: "What do you plan to do with me? Kill me or torture me?"
Dovna also smiled: "Torturing you is meaningless, it’s simply a waste of time. Everything on you is not worth as much as your title. Captain of the Silver Moon Knight Fifth Squad. I intend to offer you to the abyss, where you will become a sacrifice to summon a more powerful demon for me."
After thinking for a moment, Erwin asked, "Are you human?"
"Yes," Dovna replied.
"Then why ally with demons?"
"Do I need to answer such a question?" With that, without waiting for Erwin’s response, Dovna took a step back and turned to leave.
In the prison, only Erwin remained, gazing alone at the moon outside the window.
...
At dawn, Matthew emerged from a haystack in a village outskirts of Kapu, followed by an equally disheveled George.
Both men had already taken off their armor, glaring angrily at each other.
Matthew spat at George, then turned and walked away.
George hesitated but could only follow.
"We shouldn’t be fighting amongst ourselves at a time like this. If we are at odds, who will go to rescue Erwin?"
"You could have saved him last night if only you hadn’t climbed onto his horse."
"Couldn’t you have saved him too, as long as you got off your own horse?"
"Your horse fell, not mine. Why should I give up my horse?"
"It’s not like I wanted my horse to fall!"
"Enough with the excuses! Rich young master who fears death! I get it!"
"And you’re not afraid of death? You’re just a thug! If you hadn’t sworn loyalty as a child to the Lich King before he rose to power, do you think you’d have the chance to wear magical armor?"
"What about you? If it weren’t for your wealth and your good father, would you have a chance to wear magical armor? At least my skills were honed through my own practice, whereas yours were all bought with money!"
"Oh, so that’s what you think of me? In that case, there’s nothing more to say. Let’s duel!" George reached for his waist, only to find his sword had been hidden along with his armor to escape pursuit, so he bent down to pick up a stick.
"A duel is it? You think I’m afraid of you?" Matthew also bent down to pick up a branch.
Just then, an old man leaning on a cane noticed them from afar and shouted: "Who are you two?"
Along with the old man, several farmers working in the nearby fields also looked at them.
Suddenly, the two who were initially aggressive both became deflated.
Matthew quickly put on a smile, saying: "We... we’re just passing through. Just passing through."
With that said, he hurriedly turned and ran.
George hesitated for a moment but followed as well.
About half an hour later, the two sat silently in the woods, looking at each other, both wearing exhausted expressions.
"We’re both cowards, all of us," Matthew spread his hands and sighed, "We all left Erwin behind, so we’re no better."
"I didn’t expect my first mission to turn out this way. Maybe I’m really not qualified to be a knight of the Silver Moon Knight Order." Glancing at Matthew, George continued, "And of course, neither are you. You’re no better than me."
"We just reached a consensus, are you preparing to argue with me again about this?" Matthew rolled his eyes at George.
George bowed his head, saying nothing. Probably because he really didn’t know what else to do, one hand kept rubbing a fallen branch beside him.
"This situation tells us that, essentially, there’s no difference between thugs and aristocrats. When trouble arises, they both just run away."
"What should we do now?"
"Of course, we should return to White City, what else? Tell Miss Yilin, let her handle it. Maybe she’ll bring troops herself to attack, maybe she’ll inform Giant Snake City or the Northlands."
"If that’s the case, then everyone will know that the first time we took action, we lost our captain."
"Can you tell me a way to avoid letting others know?" Saying this, Matthew looked at the somewhat flustered George.
George stammered, "How about we go back once. I know a few Earls, they have forces at their disposal. I can figure out a way to make them secretly help us. As long as we rescue Erwin..."
"Shh. That’s impossible, okay? Moving troops without a name, do you want Miss Yilin to think you’re going to attack her? Then you’d be the first to be confronted as a demon envoy."
Matthew stood up and turned to walk out of the woods.
"Where are you going?"
"Back to White City!"
"Stop right there!" George quickly followed: "Don’t you want to save Erwin?"
"I’ve known him since we were little, and even though our relationship isn’t great, I want to save him more than anyone."
"Then why not think of a solution?"
"First of all, it has to seem like there’s a solution. Does this look like something we can resolve? The other side not only has troops, but they also have a Demon Envoy behind them. The only solution I can think of is..." Turning his face sideways, Matthew shouted: "Mr. Simon! Where are you? Mr. Simon, come out and save us! We’re in over our heads, please come out!"
All around was silent, with only a few leaves gently falling.
"See, there’s no way now."
Matthew wanted to continue walking forward, but George quickly blocked his path.
"There has to be a way, there has to be a way, we have to think of something. If we just go back like this, not only will you and I be looked down upon, but the entire Silver Moon Knight Fifth Squad will be looked down upon. It would have been better not to form it at all!" George steadied himself and earnestly said: "Don’t you have a group of subordinates? Call them over secretly."
"Do you think they can fight a regular army?" Matthew asked in return.
"They definitely can’t, but we don’t necessarily have to fight, do we?" George continued, "You call your people, I’ll secretly call mine. Then I’ll spend some money to find some powerful people to help. We can assemble a Mercenary Group and rescue Erwin ourselves. This is the only way to save you, me, and the Fifth Squad’s reputation. I’m willing to bet everything I have, as long as we can rescue Erwin."
"Do you think this is feasible?" Matthew looked at George in amazement.
George gritted his teeth and said, "This is a trial, no matter what, the Fifth Squad should be able to solve problems by itself. We are a knight division, not a burden."
Silently staring at each other, after hesitating for a long time, Matthew finally extended a hand to shake with George: "Then let’s give it a try."
