The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 559: Where’s Your Conscience? Dad
Hugo Quinn carried Eleanor Hollis back home. She had already fallen asleep on the way, cursing the man in her heart.
When she woke up, it was already seven in the evening. She rubbed her legs and arms and saw the man typing beside her. In anger, she kicked him in the leg.
"Are you hungry?"
Hugo turned his head, his face full of tenderness.
Eleanor was momentarily stunned, and then she was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. She was really useless; whenever he showed this gentle expression, all her anger vanished.
"A little bit."
Hugo immediately had someone bring in some food, placing it in front of her, considerately blowing on it a bit.
"It’s not suitable to eat greasy food at night; have some porridge instead."
Eleanor nodded, and all her anger dissipated. She saw that his laptop was still on. The screen displayed a chat window, and she couldn’t help leaning her head closer.
Hugo hurriedly closed the laptop, a faint look on his face.
"It’s some troublesome matter. You don’t need to worry about it for now. Just focus on preparing our wedding."
Seeing him like this, Eleanor immediately began to worry.
"Are those people still persistent, or is it about the medical team?"
Hugo shook his head. This time, the issue was more serious. After he connected the medical team with the country, that side had already given up on the team, but they turned their attention to Marcus.
Marcus is currently the only person in the world who has recovered from that illness. Those people want to capture him for research and have already begun to act, sending quite a few people over. This information came from Felix Ford, and it seemed those people had no intention of giving up.
"They want Marcus, to study his body. Eleanor, I will protect our child, don’t worry."
Eleanor nodded. Marcus’s body was already completely healed; she couldn’t let her son be tormented again, especially when those people were only motivated by profit. If Marcus really fell into their hands, who knew what he would face.
In the following days, Eleanor acutely felt that there were many more people around the villa, and every corner was under surveillance by cameras.
She deliberately observed for a while and was somewhat surprised. This time, the setup was very tight, those people should have no chance. However, she was a bit curious, as all these people seemed well-trained and exuded a bloody aura.
"Big brother, do you think this will work?"
Hugo’s voice came over, accompanied by another man, who was Collin Quinn, the head of the Quinton Family.
Collin rarely appeared in the public eye and didn’t like to be involved in the affairs of big families.
"Yes, I’ve had my people check carefully, and there are no oversights or flaws. Don’t worry, I’ve already approved it from above. This entire area is now under my charge. I’ll make sure nothing happens to Marcus right under my nose."
Hugo was somewhat moved. He was a very indifferent person and had never really been touched by familial love. He wasn’t close to his brothers either.
He even always thought that his brothers didn’t like him. Since he was young, he had been the old man’s favorite, and they should have felt the old man was quite biased.
But after hearing about his situation, Collin had immediately volunteered to transfer here and manage Serenford, with no intention of staying in the military anymore.
"Thank you, big brother."
It was rare for Hugo to say these two words, and Collin knew it, so he patted his shoulder.
"You guys sure are making a big scene."
Another man’s voice came from the gate; it was Simon Quinn.
Since reconciling with Jane Shaw, Simon had been busy taking his wife and daughter out, spending little time in Serenford, but he had finally returned recently.
Simon was holding Chloe’s hand, and his gaze was gentle.
Seeing Marcus not far away, Chloe eagerly released Simon’s hand and cheerfully ran toward Marcus.
"Third brother, you’ve returned."
Hugo’s voice turned a bit colder, making Simon instantly unhappy. How come he was chatting amiably with the elder brother, but became so formal when it came to him?
Collin didn’t speak; he had always been few in words. They went inside, sat on the sofa, and drank tea.
"So, those people want to take Marcus this time?"
Hearing their conversation, Simon finally understood the whole matter and angrily slapped the table.
"Do they think Serenford is their playground?!"
Simon turned to see Marcus and Chloe playing happily, becoming even more dissatisfied with that group of people.
"Big brother, have you come up with a countermeasure?"
Among them, Hugo was the idea man; he had already set everything up. However, Collin’s arrival made the whole plan more perfect.
Seeing no one was paying him any mind, Hugo quietly shut his mouth, listening intently.
It wasn’t until after dinner that the two left.
Eleanor yawned and held Marcus in her arms.
"Tonight, I’ll sleep with Marcus. I’m still a bit worried."
Hugo’s gaze instantly deepened. Sleep with Marcus, and what about him? Was he supposed to sleep in the room alone?
He instantly became unhappy, casting a lingering glance at Marcus, who could almost feel his father’s stare slicing through him bit by bit.
"Mommy, you should sleep with Daddy. I’m already a grown-up; I can sleep by myself."
"No way!"
Eleanor’s attitude was resolute. There was no way she would allow Marcus to sleep alone tonight.
"The bed in the room is big enough for three people. Why separate?"
Leaving this remark, Hugo went upstairs first.
Eleanor thought it over and found it reasonable. She then took Marcus and followed him upstairs.
Marcus, however, felt wronged but couldn’t voice it. He really didn’t want to be sandwiched between two adults.
But once they got to the room, he realized he had been overthinking. His vinegar-jar father had already laid a bed for him on the floor. When he walked in, Hugo patted the spot on the floor.
"Tonight, you’ll sleep here and don’t disturb us."
Marcus’s mouth twitched. Making a child sleep on the floor, where was the compassion?
But Hugo soon lay on the bed, completely ignoring his accusing look.
At the time, Eleanor was in the bathroom and was unaware of the confrontation between father and son. When she came out, she saw that Marcus was already lying on the floor.
Her brows furrowed instantly. "Marcus, the bed is wide enough. What are you doing on the floor?"
She wanted to go over and gather the sheets and blankets. Under Hugo’s gesture, Marcus quickly spoke up.
"Mommy, I just find the floor more comfortable. I like to kick the covers, and it’s not convenient to sleep with you guys."
Warmth instantly filled Eleanor’s eyes as she looked at Hugo on the bed. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Honey, then you sleep on the floor, and Marcus and I will sleep on the bed. I don’t mind a child kicking the covers."
