Chapter 108: Chapter 108

*Leonora*

As Bethany and I began to prepare dinner for our significant others, Claire munched on her snacks. There was no reason why she had to be in the kitchen with us. Not one single reason. I think she just enjoyed the discomfort in the air and wanted to keep us annoyed as long as possible.

"Claire, is there any reason why you’re still here?" I asked her as I couldn’t take it anymore. I still hadn’t addressed the stunt she pulled at my coronation. I still wanted to give her the little respect she deserved as Jax’s best friend but I couldn’t put up with her lingering around my space.

"There’s no one to talk to and ever since the coronation day, it has been like there’s this dark cloud hanging over the pack." Claire said and I closed my eyes to a slit. I knew what she was trying to insinuate. "You’re the only girls that I know would actually talk to me. Everyone is all coupled up and I don’t have anyone."

"Yeah, maybe you should have thought about that before pulling that awful stunt." Bethany tried to mutter under her breath but it was loud enough for everyone to hear. She quickly shot me a look. The power dynamics were still confusing to her but as long as she was on my side, she could speak to Claire however she wanted because I won’t punish her.

"I’m sorry about that. That guy- Devon is it, explained everything to me. I honestly didn’t know." She said and I rolled my eyes.

"And you didn’t ask. It’s not like we all disappeared from this building. You just wanted to make your point and I get it. You’re obsessed with Jax." I said and her face flushed. "If it were before, I would have left Jax for you because I don’t care for petty dramas but now I am his Queen, literally, so don’t expect me to put up with you and your antics anymore."

I turned around to look at the food on the gas. I flipped over the chicken and sighed. I felt so riled up and it was because of Claire.

"Leonora, I don’t want Jax. Why would you ever think that?" She said in a mocking tone. "If you were smart enough you would know that I already got what I wanted. Not everything is about you and Jax. If you want to know what I got, wait until the next attack on this pack. Let the council and Jax tell you who they would usher into the bunker first between you and I. It would take you years to be able to take my seat at the table." She said before getting up and leaving. When she got to the door, she stopped and looked at me. "Stop thinking like a child and maybe, just maybe, you and I would be on the same playing field." With that she walked away.

Her speech left so many questions in my mind. I knew between the both of us, she had a lot more power than I did within the council but it felt like there was something I was missing. There was something she wanted me to know. It was like she was leaving hints for me. I don’t know but this felt like a competition, a small war between the both of us. I had already won the man and the throne but was there something else?

"She’s fucked up." Bethany commented and I sighed. At least I wasn’t the only person to witness that insanity. "Everything is ready." She announced as she took the pots off the stover. I assisted her and we carried the pots over to the counter while we waited for it to cool down a bit.

"I wish Micah and Claire could switch places. I don’t get how someone as fake as Claire can run a pack. I understand she’s Jax’s best friend but she’s awful." I said as we sat on the stool.

"I second it. I’m not so friendly with Micah but I can tell he’s a really good guy but look at Claire. She did something wrong and she’s not even being apologetic about it." Bethany added. I just sighed and began to serve food for Jax and I. "If we go up and find out they’re not sleeping, how about we all have lunch together?"

"I wouldn’t even mind that right now and I really want Jax to cheer up a bit. I think he’s in a reflection mode and he’s over analyzing everything he has done in the past." I admitted and he nodded. "I know he wasn’t nice or kind but he has really changed and I hate that he’s beating himself up for it now."

"That’s life. We really don’t get to pick and choose the days we would be happy." She said as she served for herself and Devon. "Jax is a really nice guy. Complex but nice. I just think he hadn’t really had the space to just be a normal person."

"Yeah and that’s why I really want all these things to be over and I’ll try and get him to do basic things." I said. "I remembered the day he came followed me all the way to the front of staff quarters and everyone was watching through the windows."

"He is royalty, you know. Everything he does is going to be scrutinized." Bethany pointed out and she was right. There was only so much that we could do in the pack. Maybe if we went for another weekend getaway, then I would take him to do basic things like taking a walk around the city. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

I wanted Jax to experience just being his own person. I wanted him to go on walks and try out different kinds of games. Being stuck in this mansion had been for the benefit of the pack but I wanted to do something for him.

Something that would make him look back and smile.
