The Lycan king-Chapter 15
*Jax*
"Jax." She called my name. "I would have kissed you if things weren’t messed up." She said before leaving. Why did she say that? Why was she making this worse? I hated this. I hated the effect she had on me. I hated the feelings I felt. I hate that my wolf is begging to mate. I hate how attracted I was to her. It was becoming increasingly hard to deny what I felt for her and this was bad.
The Red Clove Council told me I needed to mate with her or get her to accept my rejection because I was getting distracted. I was losing myself and it was all because of that girl. That thing. I knew she was punishing me for how I reacted to finding out she was my mate. I am a king. I can’t be mated to just anyone. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Everything was a game. My life and role were a game. It needed precision and strategic planning. I couldn’t just go to war without weighing the pros and cons the same way I couldn’t just mate with anyone. My mate was going to be a Queen. She would lead this pack, especially the women and children. She would be an icon. I couldn’t just let anyone take that position.
It would lead to my downfall.
The door opened and I turned to watch Claire walk into the room. She looked around and scoffed at the floors. "She didn’t finish." She said as she walked towards me. I pushed my hands into my pocket, trying to conceal the bulge in my pants. I couldn’t let Claire see that I was turned on. It would be an uncomfortable position. "Why did you let her leave without checking to see if she completed the task?"
Because I tried to kiss her? I thought to answer but I just bit my tongue. "My wolf was getting erratic. I had to tell her to leave. She can continue tomorrow." I said as she moved closer to me. She lightly sniffed the ear and squinted her eyes at me.
"I can smell her all over you." She said and I watched a flash of anger cloud her eyes. "Did anything happen?" She asked and I shook my head. I linked my hand with hers. I began to pull her out of the conference room. I needed her to stop thinking or talking about her. It was already enough that I couldn’t get her out of my mind, I just needed Claire to make it worse.
"Claire." I said as I pulled her again. "We planned to watch a movie. I’m not going to let you ruin the night by talking about that thing." I said and Claire sighed. We began walking to the movie room which was right next to mine.
A staff passed us and she winked at me. I knew what she was trying to tell me. She was going to wait for me in my room. There was no way I would remain celibate while Leonora was here. Why couldn’t she just behave? It hasn’t even been up to a day and she had already been getting under my nerves.
I could still sense her and smell her around the house. Why hasn’t she left?
I opened the door to the movie room and Claire entered inside. "Let me get something from the fridge. You can pick the movie." I said and she squealed going over to the DVDs. I closed the door and headed for the kitchen. Her scent was getting stronger by the moment.
I opened the door and met her washing the dishes but I could hear faint cries as she sniffled and wiped her tears.
"I’m doing this for you, Noah." She said as I walked into the kitchen. I scoffed, catching her attention causing the plate she was holding to drop out of her hands. The plate shattered in front of her. "I’m so sorry." She quickly bent down to pick the broken pieces. I wanted to assist her but if someone were to walk in they would easily put their twos together.
I walked over to the fridge and opened it. I scanned around for the pack of popcorn but I didn’t find it. "Do you know where the popcorn is?" I asked and turned to her. She was now holding a broom and trying to sweep the remaining shards. She pointed over at a cupboard. I opened it and I found it. "Prepare it." I said, dropping the bag on the center island. She dropped the broom and picked up the brown bag. She walked over to the microwave, placed the bag inside and pressed some buttons. Immediately she closed the door, the microwave lit up. She went back to sweeping up the shards.
I cleared my throat as she picked up the dustpan and threw the shards in the bin. She kept the broom and dustpan in the designated spot. "Did you mean what you said?" I asked her as she went back to washing the dishes, pretending she wasn’t hearing me. "Leonora, I’m sorry for what happened today."
"Save it. I just want to finish up and go to bed." She forced out. She clutched her stomach, pausing the cleaning and took a deep breath. "I’m definitely sure you broke something." She said as she continued washing.
"Leonora." I called her and she turned to me. "There is this question that has been in my mind for years. Were you in love with Noah?" I really needed to confirm. I wanted to know if I had a bit of chance. Why do I care? I couldn’t tell.
"Yes, I loved Noah. He was the only person who cared about me. He would take care of me and-"
"Enough!" I shouted. I didn’t want to hear about how he was the perfect person for her. If he were still here with us, I would have killed him myself.
