The Lycan king-Chapter 99
*Bethany*
I walked Leonora to the hall. I could tell she was disassociated and I kept trying to make her enjoy every moment of it. I knew she and Jax hadn’t totally settled their relationship and it was affecting her especially with her baby on the way. As we got to the door, I saw Micah and Jax talking to each other.
"It’s about to begin." I announced to them and they both turned to me. Jax had a blindfold on but Leonora didn’t. She squeezed my hand slightly and I squeezed back. A way for me to tell her that I was going to be by her side all through it all.
The music began and the doors opened. I took Jax’s hand and placed Leonora’s hand in his. He immediately laced her fingers together while she immediately gravitated towards him.
"Leonora. You’re leading." He said and she nodded. She walked ahead, pulling Jax into the hall. Micah and I followed right behind them and I tried to adjust her dress as she walked. Micah took off Jax’s blindfold and he stopped, causing Leonora to stop. He looked over at Leonora and I could see small tears in his eyes. He pinched the bridge of his nose and looked away making me smile.
"You look beautiful." He complimented her and her body eased up. I could hear the pack cooing in the background and it made me smile. They continued down the red carpet until they got to the stage and stared at everyone. Leonora’s demeanor quickly turned cold and I followed her eyes.
Claire stood in the crowd wearing a white dress. It was just a body on fitted dress and it didn’t look as good as Leonora’s. I looked over at Devon then nodded to the direction of Claire. I wasn’t going to let anything ruin this wedding for my best friend. Devon quietly escorted Claire out of the room and returned back alone.
The ceremony started and the ancient rites were spoken by both the pack elders and the council members. I watched in awe as the whole thing unfolded. This was the first wedding coronation I was witnessing and I was so glad it was Leonora’s.
Just as Leonora was starting to get comfortable, Claire walked back into the hall. She was now wearing a floral dress like the rest of the pack but her appearance sparked something in Leonora. Something I couldn’t point out.
It was now time for the actual coronation. Leonora was guided to the throne while Jax stood in front of everyone as they placed a crown on his head and another in his hands.
He looked over at Leonora, not breaking eye contact with her. "She is now your Queen. To go against her is to be my enemy. I will spare no one. Friend or foe." He announced as he walked over to Leonora and placed the crown on her head. The last two sentences were not a part of the coronation. I had prepared ahead with Jax and no book on coronation vows ever mentioned him not sparing his friend or foe. Maybe he just wanted to make that vow in the presence of everyone to prove his love for her. The thought made me almost cry and I looked over at Devon.I blew him a kiss and he caught it.
Tears streamed down her face as he leaned down and kissed her before taking a seat beside her. The immediately held hands while the whole pack bowed and cheered for them.
Music began to play and everyone began mingling, some people heading toward the couple to wish them good luck. I quickly walked over to my best friend and gave her a hug. I squatted beside her and passed a handkerchief to her to dab the tears off her face.
"Bethany thank you for helping with the wedding plans." Jax said as he gave me a smile. I noticed they weren’t holding hands anymore and they were slightly leaning away from each other.
"She’s my sister and I’ll do everything to make her happy." I responded as she pursed her lips. I knew she was trying to hold in her tears. I leaned to her ear. "If you need a break to cry, let me know. I’ll get the makeup artist to the back asap."
"No, don’t worry. I’m okay. I’m just really happy." She said and I searched her eyes. Leonora was lying to me. My best friend was lying to me.
"Okay. It’ll soon be time for the after party so you’ll still have to go to the back and switch out your shoes." I pointed out to her and she nodded. "Smile." And with that I walked away for her to enjoy her wedding.
"Baby, you looked so good up there. I wanted to push off Jax and Nora and get married to you." Devon joked and I laughed as I pulled him in for a hug.
After an hour of mingling, eating and having fun, pack members walked out of the hall leaving just the elites, elders and council members. Devon and I were luckily spared because of our relationship with the Queen.
Speaking off, I searched around and couldn’t find Leonora. I quickly made my way over to the back room. As I opened the doors, I was met with Leonora seated on the chair and crying.
"What is going on?" I closed the door behind me and joined her on the chair.
"I think Jax and Claire have been hooking up. Why would she wear white to my wedding?" She said through fit of tears. Her voice seemed slurred and her movements were so weak.
"Why would you think that? She wore white just to seek attention." I assured her but she shook her head. "Did you have edibles?" I asked and she shrugged.
"Jax and I are not really together. He said we should see other people. I’m sorry I lied to you."
