The Martial Doctor-Chapter 136 - 125: Havoc at Shanglin Temple
Each person received a portion of tofu, a serving of green vegetables, and a portion of millet rice.
This was the vegetarian meal served at Shanglin Temple.
No one received special treatment.
It was very simple and plain, one could even say it was quite worthless.
But when these foods were tasted, they had a unique flavor, sweet and delicious. This could be the effect of the environment and the state of mind, which can influence one’s perception of the taste of food.
This tofu seemed to be made with care, most likely by the Shanglin Temple itself, and was in no way inferior to that made by a family’s own tofu workshop.
Delicate, smooth, with a particularly sweet flavor.
It was likely due to the water quality. Shanglin Temple must have a spring with sweet water, and tofu made from this spring water, containing trace elements, naturally had a special taste. This was likely the reason Shanglin Temple’s vegetarian dishes were famous.
The millet rice was probably also specially steamed, soft and sweet, very gentle on the elderly’s stomach, likely also made with the spring water.
As for the green vegetables, the moment Lin Miao tasted them, he was surprised by the flavor—there was actually peanut oil used in them.
He, someone with experience in two lifetimes, could definitely taste the unique aroma of peanut oil.
Peanuts were rare items, not worth buying even for a taste, let alone using them to extract oil to cook vegetables—wouldn’t that be a waste?
Could it be that Shanglin Temple had been growing peanuts for a while and extracting oil from them?
It seemed he underestimated the wisdom of the people in this world.
If he could think of growing peanuts, why couldn’t others? This world did not lack clever people. If this were true, the world would be even more interesting.
Lin Miao and Sun Youwei ate their meals with great enjoyment.
"Amitabha, pardon the intrusion. May I ask if you are the esteemed Mr. Lin Miao, the scholar known in this world?" A monk in yellow robes came to the table where Lin Miao and Sun Youwei sat, clasped his hands together, chanted a Buddhist mantra, and inquired.
"No, I dare not claim that title. I am indeed he." Lin Miao hurriedly stood up to return the courtesy. Naturally, he had to appear a bit humble on someone else’s domain.
"I am Faming, the guest monk at Shanglin Temple. Upon learning that Mr. Lin the scholar has graced our temple with your presence, the abbot particularly invites you to the Zen room for tea and a chat," Faming slightly bowed as he explained the purpose.
"Thank you for the abbot’s invitation. May I finish my vegetarian meal first before coming over?" Lin Miao nodded. He was indeed a somewhat renowned person.
It was a formality for the abbot at Shanglin Temple to know of his arrival and invite him for a tea chat. To refuse would seem a bit impolite.
"Amitabha, please enjoy your meal." Faming, with two monks in gray robes, stepped aside and quietly waited for Lin Miao to finish his meal.
"Senior sister, shall we go once we are done?"
"Both of you, please follow me..."
The two followed the guest monk Faming into the monastery’s inner courtyard, where the monks resided and conducted their activities. No visitors or pilgrims could enter without permission.
The abbot’s Zen room occupied a small courtyard.
"Mr. Lin, please wait for a moment. The abbot is currently presiding over the ordination ceremony for the new monks and will come shortly," Faming explained after leading Lin Miao to the abbot’s Zen room, clasping his hands together.
Conducting the ordination ceremony at this time?
It felt a bit odd, but Lin Miao didn’t question further. After all, he wasn’t very familiar with Buddhist customs, and there was nothing impolite being done.
"Please come with me to the side hall for a rest," Faming said to the senior sister.
Lin Miao’s eyes slightly narrowed, and a sense of alertness arose in his heart. He was unwilling to believe that such a sacred place would be tainted with filth, but Faming’s action of separating him from Sun Youwei made him slightly suspicious.
However, he knew that Si Miaoxue was always following closely. If any situation arose, she would take action immediately and ensure his senior sister’s safety.
The senior sister looked toward him, indicating with her eyes, asking for his opinion.
He nodded slightly to Sun Youwei. If Mr. Xue intended to act, he would definitely find a way to separate him from the senior sister.
He didn’t know what method Mr. Xue would employ to achieve his purpose, but Lin Miao never thought he would be able to get the monks at Shanglin Temple to cooperate with him in such despicable deeds.
It seemed the filth within the Buddhist domain had a long history, and even this 800-year-old Shanglin ancient temple couldn’t escape it.
He hoped he wasn’t being overly cynical.
Sun Youwei followed the guest monk. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Lin Miao sat down, and guest monk Faming quickly returned, instructing a monk to serve Lin Miao fragrant tea.
This Faming was quite the conversationalist, introducing the history of Shanglin Temple with ease, clearly a person who had a way with words. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in the position of the guest monk at Shanglin Temple.
Faming constantly urged him to drink tea, but Lin Miao had been on alert for a while, increasingly sensing that something was wrong. Could the tea have been tampered with?
About a cup of tea’s time passed.
Still, the abbot did not arrive, and Lin Miao pretended to be unable to sit still: "Master Faming, why hasn’t the abbot come over yet?"
"Oh, I’ll go over to the ordination hall at the front and take a look. Please, Mr. Lin, wait a little longer," Faming clasped his hands together, bowed, and then turned to leave.
Lin Miao watched Faming’s departing figure, a cold killing intent flashed in his eyes; he had tested it—the tea was drugged.
To think the Buddhist people would assist the sons of nobility in using such despicable means to seize virtuous women, tarnishing their identity as Buddhists.
Moreover, Si Miaoxue had already used a special method to send him a message. Shortly after they entered the temple gates, Mr. Xue also entered Shanglin Temple and had brought several guards with him.
Among them was the Green Blade Sect disciple, Du Ziyu. His right hand was still bandaged, indicating his injury hadn’t healed yet.
"Masters, I wish to visit the lavatory?"
"Sir, it is best to stay here and wait for the abbot to arrive." One of the monks gave Lin Miao a cold stare, responding in a stiff manner.
"What do you mean, are you trying to keep me under house arrest here?"
"We don’t mean that, Mr. Lin, you misunderstood. The abbot will be here soon, please wait a little longer..." the monk hesitated and said.
"You drugged the tea and won’t let me leave, isn’t that right?" Lin Miao’s face turned cold.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Lin, but you can’t leave." Two monks stepped forward and blocked the door of the meditation room.
"Shanglin Temple, so this is where the good are oppressed, evil is supported, and filth is harbored. The ’All-Purpose Spiritual Treasure’ Bodhisattva really is responsive to all!" Lin Miao kicked out in anger.
"Mr. Lin, do not be disrespectful to the Bodhisattva..."
"Courting death!" Lin Miao, who originally had some goodwill towards Shanglin Temple, now felt none at all. He launched a fierce ’Shaolin Great Stone Breaking Hand’ directly at the martial monk blocking his way.
Crack!
This attack was unleashed with hatred and without mercy; the power of this palm was enough to shatter stone. A sound of bones breaking was heard.
Thus, a scream of pain echoed out.
Although the martial monk of Shanglin Temple’s martial arts were not weak, possessing an Upper Grade Bone Forging Realm cultivation, he underestimated Lin and was blasted out of the meditation room like a dead dog, his arms broken and rendered unable to fight.
The other martial monk was frightened; they never expected that this mere young man, Lin, a physician who looked like a gentle scholar, could be so brutal, utterly subverting their understanding.
"Brother Guangji, how are your injuries?"
"Brother Guanghe, you and I are no match for him, quickly inform Uncle Faming..." Guangji cried out in pain, sitting on the ground.
"Whoever blocks me shall die!"
Lin Miao walked out of the meditation room. The Shanglin Temple martial monk named Guanghe dared not stop him and could only watch him step by step, assuming a defensive posture as he retreated but also blocking the courtyard gate.
"Where is my companion, where have you tricked her into going?" Lin Miao shouted.
"Mr. Lin, your companion is disguised as a court-wanted demoness; you’ve been deceived, don’t you understand?" Faming appeared in the courtyard with two martial monks, reversing black and white and playing the villain to make the first complaint.
"Nonsense, you shameless bald donkeys are the epitome of shamelessness, deliberately tricking me into the meditation room, separating us, and falsely accusing her at will. You’re worse than beasts!" Lin Miao furiously cursed.
"Bold! Even now, you remain stubborn and unaware. Marquis Lingyang’s Mr. Xue has already taken the demoness away. Mr. Lin, your bright future must not be ruined by a demoness. Amitabha, Mr. Lin, this poor monk advises you not to resist pointlessly!" Faming spoke with a self-righteous air.
"Hahaha..." Lin Miao laughed loudly to the sky. Indeed, these villains never have any bottom line in what they do; they can even don the cloak of justice to find a grandiose reason for their dirty deeds!
"Mr. Lin, you have lost your way!"
"Faming, I don’t know if you’re colluding with Mr. Xue or are just too stupid. The reputation of Marquis Lingyang’s Mr. Xue in Dongshan City is well known. Even if it involves capturing a court-wanted criminal, that is not his responsibility. He’s just a shameless vile man lusting after my senior sister’s beauty," Lin Miao reprimanded sternly.
"Don’t listen to his nonsense; that is indeed a demoness wanted by the court. I have seen the wanted order with my own eyes; how could she be your senior sister?" Faming’s face changed slightly.
"Faming, you’re truly a stupid and foolish bald donkey!" Regardless of whether Faming was truly colluding with Mr. Xue, Lin Miao intended to hold Shanglin Temple accountable!
"Step aside, or don’t blame me for being rude!" Lin Miao walked over directly, grabbing Guangji the monk with broken arms by the throat and lifted him up.
"Mr. Lin, this poor monk advises you against destroying your bright future for a demoness. Stay at Shanglin Temple for one night."
Lin Miao angrily retorted: "If you stop me, if my senior sister’s innocence is destroyed, I will massacre Shanglin Temple, leaving not a single monk."
"Uncle Faming, why waste words with him? Just capture him and hand him over to the young marquis!" A martial monk behind Faming swung a long staff straight towards Lin Miao.
"Guangming, what are you doing..." Faming was startled and hurriedly ordered to stop him, but had no chance.
If there were not prior arrangements for Si Miaoxue to follow and protect along the way, Lin Miao wouldn’t even bother wasting words with these bald donkeys who aid in wrongdoing."
If a fight was inevitable, then fight to the bitter end!
Lin Miao decided no longer to hide his cultivation; his internal energy surged, instantly catapulting his skill into the Upper Grade Bone Forging Realm, punching Guangji away and directly rushing towards Guangming.
All of Shanglin Temple’s bald donkeys deserved to die!
Guangming’s face was full of ferocity as he swung his long staff at Lin Miao’s head, attempting to kill him; what compassion of a monk was there?
"Bald fool, has no one told you you’re really ugly, let go!" Lin Miao twisted his wrist, caught the stick with Taiji’s ’Deflect’ technique, dissipating the stick’s power, and then used the ’Adhere’ technique to pull him forward, giving a jolt.
Guangming, horrified, felt a sting in his tiger’s mouth, unable to hold onto the staff which was then lifted into the air by a force.
This villain!
The stick’s end swung horizontally, knocking him away, creating a hole in a wall as he crashed through.
Gurgle gurgle...
Guangming continuously vomited blood, his whole person like soft mud, and even if he survived, he was crippled.
Everyone was stunned.
Including Faming. Even though he was an acquaintance monk of higher generation than Guangming, his martial arts level wasn’t much stronger.
Lin Miao was far too ruthless; where did he seem like a physician? He was a human-shaped killer.
"Whoever dares to stop me will be like him!"
No one dared to step forward to stop; they could only watch Lin Miao, full of murderous aura, leave grandly.
With the marks left by Si Miaoxue along the way, he could easily pursue, as Mr. Xue would not act wildly inside Shanglin Temple.
He never calculated that Shanglin Temple’s monks would participate in this affair.
Mr. Xue is sure to find a secure place where he can do as he pleases, unhindered by anyone.
