After releasing her, letting her linger in that kiss, Jason chuckled. "I missed you. Are you free for lunch? I want us to spend time together, just as we used to."

Samantha gazed at Jason for a long moment before shaking her head. She noticed that her hand was still clasping his and that her tone was softer, sweeter. Jason had subdued her just like that, and it was incapable of making her so angry. She was so angry at that moment.

How could this happen?! Damn it, she was the hunter here. Not the other way around!!

"I have an errand to run… I will tell you about it later."

Jason nodded, still holding her hand. "Okay, then tell me when you have time. Let's get to know each other better, Samantha. I want to get to know everything about you specifically. I hope you let me." After saying that, Jason let go of her arms, seeing her look away from him shyly.

He couldn't believe it. This cold woman was being so shy. Mia was also in disbelief at that moment, but even more annoyingly, she was feeling something else in her heart. It was annoyance and jealousy. And she felt it even more when she saw Jason cup Samantha's shin, bringing her gaze back to him.

"Samantha, I love being around you. Your personality is so refreshing. I'll see you later, okay?" Jason said to her, making her nod inexplicably. And then he turned back to Mia. Let's go.

Mia's head was exploding at this moment.

Holy shit! Jason was so bold!!

She realised Jason was dating multiple women and wondered if she was okay with that. She wasn't; she wanted him all to herself.

The question was how to achieve that.

Suddenly, she had a bold idea, one she wouldn't have considered if she didn't love him so deeply. Her love was strong, and it was time to see where the relationship was going. She wanted to build a connection and turn it into something more.

She was already using her mother's secret method of spitting into food to make him fall for her. It must be working. She just had to make sure that from then on, Jason could not get rid of her no matter how he tried.

More spit!

Jason had no idea that his favourite cook from then on was using a secret family recipe she would teach to every other woman in his life.

He reclined in his leather office chair, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. Everyone around him was being super productive, and he was loving every single moment of it. His team, focused and efficient, was executing his vision with precision. Everything was working out and soon enough they might not even need him to handle things or teach them.

This new Division, the Accelerator Division, was incredible, and its effects were yet to be seen only because of how new it was. The Automation of menial processes was going to turn his company into a well-oiled machine, and every success brought him one step closer to absolute control.

Jason twirled a pen between his fingers, his thoughts drifting toward the broader chessboard of his life. He was still yet to set up his own investment company. He should get that done as quickly as possible. That way everything would start flowing smoothly for him.

Just as he was thinking all this, like a ripple in still water, the atmosphere shifted.

Voices murmured, chairs scraped against the floor, and people began standing, their eyes darting toward the elevators. Jason's brow furrowed as he rose and strode to the nearest cluster of employees.

"What's going on?" he asked, his voice calm but firm.

"Something's happening," one of them whispered. "The police…they're raiding the office. The people below are panicking as they are getting forced out of the offices. It's pandemonium,"

Jason's stomach tightened. What the hell was this now? Before he could respond in a way that was going to calm everyone down, the elevator doors slid open, and several officers filed out, their stern faces and crisp uniforms radiating authority.

The lead officer, a burly man with a chiselled jaw, barked out an order.

"Alright, everyone, step away from your desks! This is a raid. I want all computers shut down and hard drives secured. You have fifteen minutes to clear out. Let's get going. Anyone who resists will be met with force. I am not joking. Move. NOW."

The room buzzed with disbelief. Jason's team exchanged bewildered glances, but he held up a hand to silence them. He had gotten interrupted before, but now was as good a time as any.

"Stay calm," he said, his voice steady and reassuring. "Do as they say and pack up. You will soon have communications from the executives on what is happening. We'll handle this."

Everyone heard those words and managed to get themselves a bit calm, but it was still a bit of a flustered clearing out. With strangers invading and with them being in there, cleaning up, they couldn't help but murmur about what was going on and what was happening.

The officer's gaze zeroed in on Jason who was facilitating the leaving of the others, his lips curling into a sly grin. "Jason Cross," he drawled. "Look at you, moving up in the world. From a dingy apartment to management… impressive. Hard work must pay off. I just have to wonder how HARD you're working."

The insinuation hung heavy in the air. This guy was saying he was fucking his way up.

He wasn't wrong... But he wasn't right either.

He had spent a ton of money too, and learned a lot in the process. But he would not explain it to this idiot who seemed way too interested in him than any normal person should. Jason's jaw tightened, but he forced a polite smile.

"Hard work always does, officer, and I'm sure you're a hard worker yourself. I guess we have that in common. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a team to assist."

He turned away, radiating unflappable composure and the man watched him leave, narrowing his eyes and then turning to Jason's office with an unreadable expression.

Jason walked off, continuing to help those who needed help. He radiated a calming reassuring smile that made everyone else's procedures smooth. Inside, though, his mind churned.

This wasn't a random raid. Someone was pulling strings.

Reno Ventures was as clean as a whistle. Samantha had never allowed anything to go wrong under her watch. And not it was the same again. She would never allow anything to go out there under her watch. She was never going to let this slide.

Jason also cleaned up and took his things before leaving. But he wasn't going down like the rest. He was going up. He approached Samantha Ellis's office, finding her mid-argument with the captain leading the operation. Her sharp bob swung as she gestured furiously, her blue eyes blazing with indignation.

"This is an abuse of power!" she snapped. "You storm in here with flimsy paperwork and disrupt my company over baseless accusations? Preposterous!"

The captain shrugged, unfazed. "We're just doing our job, ma'am. Shady investments leave a trail, and we intend to follow it."

Jason stepped forward, placing a hand on Samantha's shoulder. It seemed Jason's presence and ability immediately calmed her down as she took a deep breath in, before turning to him. Jason was looking at her with a gaze that told her she could trust him. But it seemed he was being professional this time.

"Ms. Ellis, let's not escalate this further. We'll cooperate and prove there's nothing to hide."

Samantha turned to him, her anger softening into a simmering frustration. Jason's touch was grounding, and she found herself nodding despite her fury.

As the police continued their search, Jason's phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced at the screen: a text from Jack Cross.

[Please Meet me in an hour.]

[Industrial zone. I will share the accurate location in time.]

[We need to talk.]

Jason's lips pressed into a thin line. Shadows were closing in, and that was good too. He needed answers. And Jack was the perfect person to give them to him.

Having managed to drag Samantha away from the officer before she could start a ight, Jason and her were soon in the dimly lit parking garage. Jason and Samantha stood beside his sleek black sedan. She leaned against the car, arms crossed, her usually composed demeanour fraying at the edges.

"This isn't random, Jason," she said, her voice a hushed urgency. "Someone's targeting us."

"I know," Jason replied, his tone measured. He stepped closer, his presence magnetic as he took her hand in his.

"But panicking won't help. Here's what you're going to do: go home, monitor our accounts, and record any unusual activity. Monitor our employees too, and do not I repeat, do not let them panic. Don't engage the police unless necessary. Don't release any information. Trust me. You still have access to the cameras you put in right? If they do anything funny we will know."

His words were deliberate, laced with reassurance. Samantha met his gaze, her resolve strengthening under his steady confidence. She nodded slowly.

"Alright," she murmured. "But what about you? What are you going to do?"

Jason's smirk returned. "We already know this is not a good thing. Actually, it might just be a terrible thing. I'll take care of the rest."

Before she could protest, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. The gesture caught her off guard, her breath hitching. When he pulled back, her cheeks were flushed, but her tension had eased. Jason smirked, kissing her hands next, making her roll her eyes.

What the fuck was he doing? And what was she doing turning into putty?

"Take care of yourself for me, Samantha," Jason said, his eyes plastered on her as she left him.

Samantha flashed him a smirk, getting out of the car and walking towards hers. "I was going to take care of myself whether you asked me to or not. Goodbye, Mr Cross."

"Bye." Jason said, watching her walk away. He soon turned his eyes back to his car, getting inside and starting it.

Okay, Jack. Let's see what you're talking about.
