The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 472: A Strange Dream
Primrose couldn’t clearly remember what had really happened to her. The last thing she recalled was Nina accidentally—though clearly on purpose—knocking the old music box to the floor until it shattered.
Right after that, a sharp pain stabbed through her chest, and her nose suddenly began to bleed. She also remembered Solene telling Callen to call the doctors. But before they could reach her room, Primrose had already lost consciousness.
Somewhere between sleep and darkness—she didn’t know whether it was a dream or just her imagination—she saw someone gently handing her the music box. Everything was blurry, so hazy that she couldn’t even see his face. But the music box... that, she could see clearly.
In her dream, the music box wasn’t old and worn anymore. It looked brand new, still beautiful, with pink and white paint shining softly on its surface.
"You said you always have nightmares," he suddenly said.
Primrose held her breath the moment she heard that voice. It sounded exactly like her husband.
How was that possible?
She didn’t remember her husband ever giving her that kind of music box.
"I heard that the sound of gentle music can help you fall asleep," he added.
Without realizing it, a faint smile formed on her lips. "That’s so sweet of you, General. But... my father will punish me if I bring something unholy into the temple."
What?
Which father was she talking about?
Lazarus would never punish her over something as simple as a music box. Hell, he probably wouldn’t even be angry if she burned down the entire garden by accident!
"Why don’t we just run away? I can take you away from this place," he said. His voice sounded desperate now, like he was begging, barely holding himself back from simply stealing her away from the temple.
"I can’t," Primrose—or whoever she was at that moment—replied softly. "My father said my soul is bound to this temple. If I leave, I’ll perish."
She smiled gently, like someone who had already accepted her fate. "It’s alright, General. This is my purpose. I’m here to help people wash away their sins."
"People don’t come here to wash away their sins through you," he said through gritted teeth, looking as if he was about to bite someone’s head off. "They come here to make you suffer."
"Their Gods make you suffer."
Primrose didn’t understand what he meant, but unfortunately, before she could hear the rest of their conversation, she suddenly regained consciousness.
"Your Majesty! Are you awake?!" Solene’s voice rang loudly right beside her ear. She sounded so panicked, as though she had just watched Primrose step through death’s door and somehow come back.
"Oh God, you’re finally awake!" Solene cried in relief. "Dr. Celdric, Her Majesty is awake!"
"Yes, Lady Solene," Dr. Celdric replied with a calm sigh. "I can see that too."
Dr. Alina stepped closer and spoke gently, trying to soothe her. "Lady Solene, why don’t you wait outside for a while? We’ll take care of Her Majesty."
"What? No!" Solene shook her head at once. "I can’t leave her. His Majesty told me to stay by her side, no matter what happens."
"Then please..." Dr. Alina said softly, though her tone was still firm. "Please lower your voice. Her Majesty needs peace and quiet."
Solene immediately pressed her lips together, finally realizing that she had been shouting nonstop. On the other side of the room, Nina was still standing there as well.
Her face had gone slightly pale. [Thank goodness she finally woke up! Damn it, I really thought I’d accidentally killed Her Majesty!]
[But that’s ridiculous. How could Her Majesty die just because I broke the music box? She doesn’t even have anything to do with it!]
Primrose frowned slightly, confused about why everyone seemed so panicked. Even Callen, who was standing in the corner, couldn’t stop biting his nails.
"W-What happened to me?" she asked weakly, her voice rough and shaky. She tried to sit up, but the room spun around her, so she slowly lowered herself back down.
"Please stay lying down for now, Your Majesty," Dr. Alina said, gently supporting her shoulder. "A little while ago, you lost consciousness, and your heart... your heart stopped beating for a few seconds."
"What?!" Primrose’s eyes widened in disbelief. Without thinking, she grabbed her wedding ring, certain that Edmund must have heard those words too. "H-How could that happen? Was it because of my pregnancy? Doctor, is my baby alright?"
Dr. Celdric spoke calmly, trying to reassure her. "For now, we still don’t know the exact cause. But please don’t worry, your baby is safe, Your Majesty."
Then, he added softly, "But your chest may feel sore because we had to press on it earlier to stimulate your heart to beat again."
Primrose placed her hand over her chest and winced softly. It really did hurt when she touched her ribs.
"If that’s what needs to be done, then it’s alright, Doctor," Primrose said. "But... something like this has never happened to me before."
Primrose didn’t even have any hereditary illness that could suddenly cause her heart to stop like that. In her last life, someone had to poison her before she died, so how could it be that, in this timeline, she almost lost her life because... what?
Her heart simply got tired of beating?! That was ridiculous!
The thought alone made her chest tighten with unease.
Was her body really that fragile now?
She swallowed slowly, trying to calm herself.
The room felt strangely quiet, even though the doctors and Solene were still there. For a moment, Primrose simply listened to the faint sound of her own breathing, as if to reassure herself that she was still alive.
But for a mere second, she almost left her husband alone again in this world.
She couldn’t even begin to imagine how shattered Edmund would be if she died while he was far away from her, just like in their previous life. The thought alone made her chest ache.
"We still don’t know the exact cause, Your Majesty," Dr. Celdric said gently. "But I truly don’t think it’s because of your pregnancy. There must be another factor, and I’ll do my best to figure it out."
"Actually," Dr. Grace added carefully, "I can sense... an unusual magic flow in Her Majesty’s body. Could that be the reason she suddenly lost consciousness?"
An unstable magic flow inside the body was indeed very dangerous. Many people had died because their own magic suddenly turned against them, and knowing how powerful Primrose’s magic was, it did sound possible.
But as far as Primrose knew, none of the doctors were aware she even had magic. Her energy was hard to detect, unless the person examining her was someone as skilled as Leofric.
"It feels like... a large amount of magic suddenly exploded inside your body, Your Majesty," Dr. Grace continued. "I can’t explain it perfectly, but that’s what I sensed."
"You may be right," Dr. Celdric said gently as he held Primrose’s hand and checked her pulse. "Your heart is beating even stronger than before. And, Your Majesty... I believe the seal that has been holding back your true strength has finally broken."
The seal...
Ah, Primrose remembered. Dr. Celdric had mentioned it once before, when he first told her she was pregnant. He said that her body wasn’t as fragile as it looked, and that a great amount of energy existed inside her. But someone had placed a seal on her, preventing her from accessing that power for years.
But how could it suddenly break now?
She slowly lifted her other hand, and only then noticed that her mother’s bracelet had changed color. The silver band had darkened, almost as if it had turned into copper, as if something inside it had withered or faded away.
Could it be that the key hidden inside the bracelet had finally activated? But how? Was it because her heart had stopped for a moment, and her mother’s bracelet saved her?
Was that even possible? But if that were true, then why hadn’t the bracelet been able to save her when she died from poison in her previous life?
Or was it because... her past death had nothing to do with a magic explosion? Or maybe something else had triggered the reaction this time.
But what? The music box?
But before Primrose could think any further, the bedroom door suddenly swung open, so forcefully it was as if someone had kicked it in.
Oh, it wasn’t just anyone. It was her husband!
He stood tall in the doorway, wrapped in a dark coat. It looked like he had rushed back in his wolf form and only had time to throw the coat over his bare body.
Without saying a word, Primrose forced herself to sit up on the bed and opened her arms, welcoming his embrace.
Edmund didn’t hesitate for even a second.
He crossed the room in just a few long strides and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her tightly against his chest, as if he needed to feel her warmth to believe she was really there.
For a moment, he couldn’t even speak. His breath trembled slightly against her hair, and his heartbeat pounded hard beneath his coat.
"You’re alive," he said while letting out a sigh of relief.
