The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 484: Fragments of a Forgotten Life (I)
"Fainting twice in one day..." a voice suddenly echoed in her ears. "...you’re really something, Your Majesty."
When Primrose opened her eyes, she was no longer in the parlor, nor was she in her bedroom. In fact, she didn’t feel like she was anywhere inside the manor at all.
The place around her felt strange and unfamiliar.
She lowered her gaze and saw a pair of men’s shoes standing in front of her. Confused, she slowly looked up, and then she saw a familiar face.
"Sir... Leofric?" she asked softly, her voice unsure. "Why are you here?"
Putting aside the reason why he was here, Primrose wondered why he looked taller than usual, so tall that her head didn’t even reach his waist.
No, wait. Did he look taller because she had become shorter? That was ridiculous... right?
"If I weren’t here, your father probably would have taken you away already." He let out a long sigh. "Well... even with me here, this still isn’t good news."
Primrose frowned. "That strange man is not my father," she said firmly.
Before Leofric could say anything, Primrose quickly added, "How’s Lorelle?"
"She’s fine. She’s getting better, actually." Leofric tilted his head. "But, Your Majesty, I think there’s something more important you should be asking right now."
He was right.
Instead of asking about Lorelle, the question she should have asked was something like: Where is this place? or Where am I?
However, she was worried about Lorelle, and since she hadn’t received any news about her, Primrose had been afraid that something bad had happened.
"I know I’m not in the real world," Primrose finally said. "This isn’t my ’real’ father’s manor, and somehow... I’m getting shorter?"
Please. She was already short enough. If she became shorter in real life, she would be doomed.
"You’re not getting shorter," Leofric replied calmly. He raised his hand, and a mirror suddenly appeared out of thin air. Then he held it in front of her face. "You’re becoming a child, Your Majesty."
Primrose widened her eyes the moment she saw her reflection.
She had really turned into a child, but her face was different.
No, it wasn’t just slightly different. It was completely different!
Instead of having bright red hair that stood out among others, her hair was now black. Her face was still beautiful, the kind of beauty that could rival her ’real’ face.
However, the face she saw in the mirror now looked softer and thinner, as if she had been malnourished.
And among her new features, one thing hadn’t changed at all was her golden eyes.
They were still as bright as the sun, becoming the focal point of her face now that her hair color looked plain.
"Who... who is this?" Primrose asked.
She tried to lift her hand and she wanted to touch her face to make sure this was real. But for some reason, she couldn’t move at all. Her hands didn’t respond, her arms didn’t respond, and her whole body didn’t respond to her at all.
No matter how hard she tried, she was completely frozen.
Had that strange man frozen her body again with his magic?
"This is you," Leofric said calmly. "Well... maybe not the ’you’ that you know."
He glanced at her before continuing, "This is you from another lifetime. Maybe from thousands of years ago. And don’t worry, your body isn’t frozen by magic. It’s stiff because this is only a piece of your past memories."
"What...?"
Primrose was too stunned to speak because she had always believed that she had only lived two lives: the first one, when she died from poisoning, and the second one, her current life.
But now he was telling her that she had lived even earlier than that? Thousands of years ago? Was that even possible?
Then again... after suddenly gaining the ability to read minds, maybe nothing was impossible anymore.
"You’ve seen parts of Edmund’s past life before with Raven’s help," Leofric continued. "But this is different."
He looked at her seriously. "This time, you’re not just watching. You’re inside the memory. You’re the main person in it. That’s why you’ll feel all the emotions and all the pain."
Primrose thought about it for a moment and was sure that she had never told Leofric that she had asked Raven to help her look into Edmund’s past life, to be exact the moment after her death.
But putting that aside for now, why did he have to emphasize the word "suffering"?
She had been dragged into these strange memories without warning, and now she was being told she would suffer through them?
Even though she was curious to see her memories, Primrose knew that staying here for too long probably wouldn’t be good for her mental state.
"Can you help me get out of here?" Primrose asked.
"Unfortunately... no," Leofric replied, his tone turning serious. "That bastard forced these memories into your head. Whether you want to see them or not, you have to go through them until the end."
Primrose pressed her lips together before asking again, "Then what’s the point of you being here?"
"To stay with you," he answered simply. He gave a small smile. "Because I think you’ll lose your mind if you’re left alone."
Primrose was about to say something when she suddenly heard loud noises coming from outside. There was shouting, heavy footsteps, and metal clanking.
She looked around, and only then did she realize she wasn’t in a normal room. Actually, it looked more like a cell—a prison cell to be exact.
The space was cramped. There was only a single bed and a toilet in the corner. The air was filled with a damp and slightly rotten smell, probably because there was almost no ventilation.
When Primrose lowered her head, she realized that she was wearing a dirty blue dress with many patches at the bottom. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
She also realized that she could move her head and speak, but she couldn’t move the rest of her body.
"What the hell is this place?" Primrose muttered. "I’d probably kill myself if I suddenly had to live in a place like this."
"Well... you did live here back then, Your Majesty." Leofric said. "And yeah, you weren’t that sane actually."
