The Monster King's Legacy-Chapter 157: A Visit
The following day, the sun had barely begun to rise when Lance found himself walking alongside Rusak and Rynne through the heart of the city. The streets were quiet, most still resting after the previous night's activities, but ahead, the rhythmic sounds of drills and combat filled the air.
Lance's sharp gaze followed the towering walls that enclosed the training grounds. The sound of heavy footsteps, clashing weapons, and shouted commands carried through the morning mist. As they stepped through the entrance, dozens, no, hundreds of warriors filled the vast field, each engaged in rigorous training.
The space designated for training was surprisingly large and spacious, and that was only the main centre field where most drills and sparing took place. Lance had been surprised when he first saw it, but he had now grown accustomed to it.
Lance crossed his arms, his golden eyes scanning the scene with quiet interest.
"They've improved," he noted.
Rusak grinned. "Of course. We've had to.We needed to make sure no one thought we were vulnerable."
Rynne, standing beside them, nodded. "They push themselves harder than ever, but even so, there's always room for growth."
Regardless, the discipline and unity was far beyond what he remembered. Not to mention, this was the first time he was properly observing the training.
After several minutes of silent observation, one of the orc commanders noticed them and quickly called for attention.
The entire training ground fell silent as hundreds of eyes turned toward Lance.
Lance stepped forward, his presence alone commanding attention. He let the silence stretch for a moment before he spoke.
"You've done well." He spoke, his voice steady and firm, carrying across the training grounds. "I've watched you train, and I see your dedication. Strength is not just about power, it's about discipline, about pushing yourselves beyond your limits."
The warriors remained still, hanging onto his every word.
"I've been away for three years, and in that time, you've built something great. But there is no such thing as 'enough' when it comes to strength. This world will not allow us to be content. If we want to thrive, to stand above all others, we must continue to grow." He said, though, he immediately wanted to take back the last part… 'what is standing above all others supposed to mean?'
His golden gaze swept over them. "Keep training. Keep pushing yourselves. Perhaps, in the near future, I will personally train a select few among you."
A ripple of excitement ran through the army. Whispers spread like wildfire, anticipation and determination burning in their eyes.
Lance didn't need to say anything more. His words had done the job. He turned away, walking back toward Rusak and Rynne as the warriors resumed their training, now with even greater intensity.
…
As they left the training grounds, Rusak exhaled through his nose. "That was a good speech."
Lance smirked. "I only said the truth."
Rynne crossed her arms. "Now they'll be fighting twice as hard just for the chance to train under you."
Lance shrugged. "That'll be good."
Rynne nodded before departing from them. "I need to get to my own training now, I've been slacking off these days."
Lance and Rusak continued walking through the city, the midday sun now fully overhead. As they moved through the bustling streets, Rusak suddenly slowed his pace, glancing at Lance.
"There's something I've been meaning to tell you," he said.
Lance raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
"A while back, I met an elf. He didn't seem to be part of the elven kingdom strange enough, claiming to be a free spirit and a wanderer… something along those lines. We got to talking, and he mentioned something... strange."
Lance remained silent, waiting.
"He claimed there was another land, far beyond these parts, to the far south or east, he wasn't too sure, where monsters live together, just like us. A kingdom, not unlike ours, but one we've never heard of before."
Rusak shrugged as he continued. "This elf has a sporadic character, and at the time, it sounded like nothing more than ramblings, some old tale told by travelers. But now that you're back, I figured it might be something worth looking into. If it turns out to be nothing, fine. But if it's real…"
Lance nodded slowly. "Then it could change be beneficial in future."
They exchanged a glance, unspoken thoughts passing between them.
A kingdom of monsters, hidden somewhere far away? If such a place truly existed, what did it mean for them? A potential ally? A rival? Or something far more dangerous?
Lance exhaled, his mind already turning with possibilities. "We'll look into it. But for now, let's focus on strengthening what we already have."
Rusak grinned. "Now that, I can agree with."
With that, they continued walking through the city, continuing their discussions on different issues concerning the nation.
After a while, they separated, and Lance headed towards the temple under construction.
A short moment later, the skies above the Monster Nation darkened for a moment as a massive shadow swept across the land. Citizens and workers alike paused their tasks, gazing upward in awe as a colossal black dragon descended with grace and power. Her landing sent a tremor through the earth, her imposing figure immediately commanding respect and reverence.
Lance, standing near the entrance of the temple, shielded his eyes from the gust of wind caused by her wings. A warm smile spread across his face as the dragon, now in her full glory, folded her wings and approached him.
"Kaelthara," Lance greeted, his golden eyes meeting hers. "To come all the way out here. To what do we owe the pleasure?"
Kaelthara tilted her massive head, her sharp, glowing eyes scanning the temple behind him. "I was in the area, investigating some... disturbances. But I couldn't resist stopping by."
Her deep, resonant voice carried both warmth and power.
Transforming into her humanoid form, she talked towards Lance with a grin on her face, drawing all the attention towards herself even more.

"I know what's on your mind, but regardless of how I enter, I would still cause a scene, it is inevitable."
