High above the ruined landscapes of the demon lands, the coalition of major races surged forward. Humans, elves, and dwarves moved with great speed, their combined forces cutting through the sky like an unstoppable tide.

So far, they had yet to meet any real obstruction, and were making excellent progress, until a shadow loomed over them.

WHOOOOM!

A violent windstorm descended from above, slamming into them with the force of a hurricane. Warriors were torn from their flight paths, struggling against the sudden tempest. Some crashed into the jagged terrain below, while others barely managed to stabilize themselves in midair.

A deep laughter echoed through the sky, following the sudden attack, and from a distance, a towering figure came into view. His form was monstrous, taller than most demons, and his body a mass of sinewy muscle wrapped in dark, jagged armor that appeared like a second skin almost. Even then, his neck was what drew the most attention.

From where his collarbones met, thick, writhing tentacles emerged, curling and twisting like living serpents. They pulsed with a sickly glow, releasing a haze of malevolent energy that tainted the air around him. His sharp, yellow eyes gleamed with amusement as he gazed upon the coalition forces with a sharp grin that soon faded as he spoke.

"I am Zaul-Kir, General of the Demon Lord," he declared, his voice booming like thunder. "And I have come to kill you." He announced, straight and direct to the point.

The coalition forces tensed, readying their weapons.

The air grew thick with tension as the demon general hovered above the battlefield, his grotesque form looming like a shadow of death itself.

Cervic’s eyes narrowed, so did a few others. He had fought demon generals before, but this one was different..

Those who had faced demon generals before instantly recognized that this one was unlike the rest. His aura alone was purer and more powerful. It was clear, he wasn’t just a demon general or a higher demon, he was a monster far beyond the others they had slain.

There was no need to send an army against him. Even though they were the elite forces of the three races, they would be nothing more than cannon fodder in a battle against such an opponent. Only a warrior of immense strength could stand against him, and that warrior stepped forward without hesitation, almost immediately even.

Cervic didn’t hesitate, walking forward, his heavy boots crushing a piece of rock beneath his foot as he lifted his sword that had materialized in his arm to his shoulder. His sharp eyes locked onto the demon from behind his helmet, his breathing steady and measured.

The demon general’s lips curled into a smile. "A human using such energy…" His voice was deep, distorted almost. "You think you can—" Before he could complete his sentence, Cervic moved.

A single step, and the ground shattered beneath him, leaping to meet the demon mid-air.

He swung his sword, dark energy like lightning crackling around it. The force alone ripped through the air, even seeming to distort the space around it.

The demon’s eyes widened as he realised that the attack was too fast. He barely twisted his body in time as Cervic’s dark sword grazed past him, obliterating the forest in a line behind him in a single swing.

The shockwave sent dust and debris flying, shaking the battlefield. The coalition forces shielded their eyes, erecting protective barrier not to get caught in the attack even though it was aimed away from them.

The demon general was knocked off the air with a follow up kick, landing a few feet away from where Cervic landed on, a thin line of black blood dripping down his side. He looked down, his expression darkening a bit, though it held some form of amusement.

"You... actually injured me." He grinned, sharp teeth showing. "Good."

He attacked immediately following that, dark tendrils lashed forward with blinding speeds, each one aimed for a vital point, the throat, chest, joints.

Instead of dodging or blocking, Cervic met them head-on, deflecting every strike with precise, calculated movements as he spun his blade in a marvelous form that made it look as though he was weaving the dark energy thrown at him.

One tentacle managed to slip past, piercing toward his heart, but Cervic managed to tilt his body just in time. Turned out, it was part of the tentacles on his neck that was mixed in with the dark tendril energy.

Before the demon could retract it, Cervic grabbed it with one hand. His grip tightened, as heat rose from his arm spreading to the tentacle. The tentacle shriveled and burned, black smoke rising from it in a violent manner like sizzling meat.

The demon screeched, reeling back, but Cervic didn’t let go. Instead, he yanked the demon forward with monstrous strength, and once the distance was right, he swung his sword, aiming to decapitate it.

Instead of what he had intended, the word only created a powerful impact rather tha severing its target, sending the demon crashing through a handful of trees, leaving a deep trench in the earth.

Moments passed in Silence. Cervic wondered what had just happened, as his sword was supposed to cut, and the demon hadn’t used any magic spell. Perhaps, his muscles weren’t just for show, and they had some kind of hardening ability, he thought.

Just then while he was thinking, a deep, gurgling laugh echoed. The demon general rose from the rubble, his body cracking as he appeared unhurt.

He licked his lips. "That... hurt."

Then, he raised his hand towards Cervic. Dark energy swirled around his palm, growing denser and more concentrated, then, in a sudden burst, he hurled it towards Cervic.

The problem was that the massive wave of black energy surged forward, aiming not just for Cervic, but for the army behind him.

The attack was meant to wipe them all out it seemed, though, not only was that power not enough for such a task, given the caliber of people present, it never landed.

Cervic, instead of blocking or deflecting the attack, simply jumped out of the way, and before the attack reached those behind him, a golden barrier erupted in front of the army. The attack slammed into it, and after some seconds of persistence, dispersed harmlessly.

Cervic didn’t bother looking behind to check the state of those behind him, he trusted their capability. Instead, he focused on the demon before him, and so did the demon. The moment their gazes met; the battle erupted again.

With a monstrous roar, the demon general lashed out, his tentacles writhing violently before striking like whips, cutting through the air with terrifying speed. Cervic reacted instantly, dodging to the side while swinging his sword in a wide arc. The sheer force of the swing sent a shockwave through the air, tearing the ground apart where the hit landed.

The demon general had dodged, twisting his body unnaturally to avoid the blow. He retaliated by opening his mouth wide in the close range, a swirling mass of dark energy gathering within his maw before being released in a deadly blast at almost point blank range.

Cervic’s eyes flashed in that moment. He raised both arms to shield himself from the blast, a white silver-like barrier appearing in front of him, shielding him from the blast. The deflected mass of energy struck around him, causing explosions that sent ripples through the ground, forcing nearby warriors to shield their eyes from the intensity of the impact.

The moment the attack faded, Cervic surged forward through the dust raised, this time, he didn’t use his sword, instead, he struck with his fist, fast, precise, and hard. His blow connected with the demon’s body, sending him hurtling into the sky like a shooting star, but the demon was not so easily defeated.

Before he could be sent flying too far, his tentacles shot downward, wrapping around the shattered ground and yanking himself back down with immense force. As he landed, the sheer impact sent out a devastating shockwave, causing cracks to spread through the earth like a spiderweb.

Not giving Cervic a moment to recover, the demon raised his clawed hand, summoning hundreds of black spears in the sky, and with a flick of his wrist, they rained down like a hail storm.

Cervic’s cold eyes flashed through his helmet, as he twirled his sword that had once again appeared in his hand with blinding speed, creating a cyclone of energy that repelled the incoming projectiles. The spears shattered upon impact, dissipating into nothingness, but before Cervic could launch his next attack, the demon general appeared behind him in a burst of speed.

A tentacle shot forward, piercing through the air like a spear aimed for Cervic’s back.

At the last second, Cervic twisted his body and caught the tentacle with his bare hand just when it had dented his armour a bit. The sheer force of it dragged him back several meters, his feet carving trenches into the ground.

Then, with a defiant roar, he yanked the tentacle forward, pulling the demon toward him, swinging his sword.

BOOM!

The impact sent the demon crashing through several trees once again into the distance, this time stopping once he collided into side of a rocky mountain, crumbling a reasonable chunk off it. Avalanches of rock and dust spilled into the air following the collision. The coalition forces watching from a distance could hardly believe the level of destruction happening before them.

For a moment, it seemed as if Cervic had won, But then, the rumbling laughter of the demon general echoed through the air.

From the ruins of the shattered mountains, a deep black light surged, as a pulse of energy erupted from within the rubble, blasting the debris away and creating an even greater crack into the body of the rocky mountain. The demon general emerged harmed this time, but his body regenerating at an alarming speed. His tentacles wriggled violently, then, he smiled.

"You’re strong," he admitted, his voice vibrating unnaturally. "But you’re not enough."
