The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 215 - 216: The Mantis
The Tingxue Hall was silent, and the Jinghe Courtyard over there had just quieted down.
Brother De smashed everything in the room, his face full of gloom. He had planned meticulously, even informed the Gao Mansion over at his grandmother’s place. He only needed to appear at that specific time. As long as he rescued Lin Youning from the water, Lin Youning would have to marry him. He was only ten years old; in five years Lin Youning would become an old maid. Even if he married her, he’d make her live as a widow forever.
Meanwhile, his eldest uncle was saving Gao Yue, which perfectly matched the Gao Mansion’s intent. They could shoulder the responsibility, with an even more justified reason.
But why did his eldest uncle seek Lin Youning instead of Gao Yue?
Brother De was not stupid; he understood that saving Gao Yue meant he would marry her in the future. But Gao Yue was much older than him; could he treat her coldly in the future?
Afraid the Gao Mansion wouldn’t agree.
Even more hateful, Gao Yue climbed herself up in the end. No matter how he tried to explain, the madams who came later wouldn’t believe him.
Now everything was ruined. If the grandmother pursued it, would she send him to Jiangxi Camp like she did with his father?
The more Brother De thought about it, the paler his face became. He didn’t even realize when Sister Yue walked in.
Sister Yue looked at the mess in the room, ordered people to clean up, dismissed the servants, and then sat across from Brother De.
"Do you really want to marry that Gao Yue?" Sister Yue asked and then laughed, "You originally didn’t plan for her; how could you be willing to marry her? Apparently, your efforts were in vain. I wonder what aunt will say."
"Outsmarted; what else can one do?" Brother De raised his eyes, his face full of sinister rage, "We’ve always been trampled by the Jinghe Courtyard; I refuse to believe they can suppress us forever."
"We’ll have to call her Eldest Aunt in the future," Sister Yue taunted, "The Gu family’s Eldest Aunt from the main branch—an exceptional status."
Brother De glared, eyes full of malice, "Do you have to make yourself so disliked?"
"Does anybody in this mansion care about us?" Sister Yue’s eyes also reddened, "I sent you messages, and you never replied. The Duke Mansion doesn’t care about us; mother is still confined in the courtyard, and father can’t fend for himself. We appear glamorous, as people of the Dingyuan Marquis Mansion, but the Marquis is our eldest uncle, not our father."
Brother De gritted his teeth, glaring at her, while Sister Yue laughed more radiantly. Brother De offered a cold smile, stood up, "If she’s not afraid to marry, I have nothing to fear in marrying. Besides, they outsmarted me; I was just a pawn in their game. Do they have any right to blame me now? I will go to mother; no big deal—let’s split the family. Why must mother remain confined?"
Brother De’s eyes reddened, charged outside, with Sister Yue biting her lip and striding to follow.
In Shi’an Garden, when Mrs. Gu Sr. received the news that Brother De had rushed into Jinghe Courtyard’s main building, it was already a quarter-hour later. The gatekeeper at Jinghe Courtyard had been struck by Brother De and didn’t dare to hide. When Mrs. Gu Sr. arrived, she saw Mrs. Kong and her children hugging and crying.
Enraged, Mrs. Gu Sr. repeated, "Good, good, good," saying it three times, "You’ve really opened my eyes. Each one of you has your own opinions now. Fine, do you even know why your mother is confined here? The Duke Mansion didn’t tell you, but I will now."
Mrs. Kong’s face paled; she released her children and crawled to Mrs. Gu Sr.’s feet, "Old Madam, it’s my fault; I know my wrongs. It’s just the children missing their mother. I beg you, for the children’s sake, forgive them this once. I promise to stay quietly in the courtyard."
Mrs. Gu Sr. kicked her away in disgust, "What good does caring for them do? In their eyes, I’m just the villain preventing your reunion. They are not ignorant children anymore; they dared to conspire with outsiders in the mansion, and with such boldness now, who knows how far they’ll go?"
"Old Madam, it’s all my fault. I didn’t educate them well. Please, for the sake of them being Gu Mansion’s offspring, forgive them this once," Mrs. Kong continued to plead.
But Brother De rushed forward, knelt on the ground, "Grandmother, I beg you to free mother. A child doesn’t speak against a mother’s faults. Whatever mother’s done, she’s still my mother. I don’t blame her. If Grandmother dislikes seeing any of us from Jinghe Courtyard, I’m willing to take mother and split from the mansion, never troubling you again."
Sister Yue came over and knelt.
The servants in the courtyard listened and gasped; even the Second Young Master hadn’t dared such boldness. But Second Young Master, daringly suggesting family division to Old Madam? 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
This required great courage, although such filial disobedience would tarnish Brother De’s reputation completely.
Mrs. Kong was also filled with shock, "Brother De, apologize to your grandmother, quickly apologize."
Seeing her son’s stubbornness, refusing to bow, Mrs. Kong slapped him.
Yet Brother De remained firm, not lowering his head, while Sister Yue raised hers, "Grandmother, my brother and I are grown, we need our mother’s guidance. These past months, Sister Yue has been like an unattended child; please pardon mother, Grandmother."
"Very well. Brother De has spoken wisely; it’s I, this old woman, who’s done poorly." Mrs. Gu Sr. took a deep breath and ignored the kneeling Mrs. Kong and children, "Let’s go."
Turning without looking back, leaving with her people.
Mrs. Kong watched her leave, couldn’t help but cry softly, "Are you trying to tear my heart out?"
"Mother, don’t cry. If we don’t carve out our own path, who will help us?" Brother De expressed resoluteness.
Even without the Marquis Mansion, there was still the Duke Mansion; he didn’t believe they wouldn’t care.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have sought him at the academy after mother’s incident. As for why mother was confined, he knew. But if Grandmother hadn’t instigated Lin Youning to compete with mother for father’s affections from the start, why would mother have done such things?
It was despicable his eldest uncle arrived earlier; otherwise, how could Lin Youning have escaped?
In Shi’an Garden, Mrs. Gu Sr. encountered her son halfway back after that noon’s incident—a rarity.
Though the mother and son said nothing, Mrs. Gu Sr. knew her son blamed her for this.
"Send the second one back; let them split out." Everything was decided; Mrs. Gu Sr. couldn’t bother whether her son blamed her.
Gu Yifeng agreed, watched his mother head to Shi’an Garden, standing beneath the veranda without following.
