Chapter 233: Chapter 234: Methods

Wu Xueqin was angry, and also heartbroken.

The time the Marquis came to see her, she always thought she was in his heart; the Marquis was about to shoulder responsibilities, and she believed he would come to her, but it never happened.

All the thoughts that kept her going were shattered. Even thinking of Lin Youning made her heart twist in pain. Although the First Madam never left her courtyard, she still sent people to inquire that the Marquis had entered the bridal chamber.

Yet, on the day she was brought into the Marquis Mansion, the Marquis never entered her courtyard.

Now the Marquis had entered Lin Youning’s room.

Thinking of the former affection the Marquis Mansion showed for Lin Youning, and the possibility that the Marquis was now affectionately with Lin Youning.

Wu Xueqin felt like she was going insane, and at this edge, Jingfu from the First Madam’s side came, said those words, and left.

After being angry, Wu Xueqin suddenly laughed, feeling pitiful for herself, but what about the First Madam?

She must be feeling the same on that side, right?

The result was nowhere to vent, so she thought of herself, the concubine brought into the mansion who remained untouched.

Yangtao saw the young lady alternately angry and laughing, not daring to disturb her. Fortunately, the young lady didn’t do anything outrageous and soon went to rest.

Meanwhile, in the East Courtyard, Gu Yifeng was startled awake by an arm thrown over him. Over the years, he had gotten used to sleeping alone. The concubines’ courtyards were more of a place for a brief stay than an overnight stay. He never touched Mrs. Dong, even when spending the night there.

But that night, he didn’t suffer from insomnia; instead, Sister Ning’s arm startled him awake.

He looked at the pillow that was supposed to be in between them, now at his feet, and Sister Ning somehow had shifted close to him, with her arm draped over him. Not realizing it, a trace of indulgent affection flashed across his face.

He gently lifted the arm from his body, but before he could put it down, the little one seemed to wake up and, as he loosened his hand, it fell back on him.

The petite figure snuggled closer, settling back into a deep sleep.

He intended to move her inward, but she ended up sticking to him.

Gu Yifeng smiled wryly, fearing to disturb the little one, so he let her lean against him, reminding himself it was his sister, and gradually relaxed.

With a faint fragrance, Gu Yifeng closed his eyes, and the next day when Lin Youning woke up, she found herself tightly cuddled up to her elder brother, holding the big pillow meant to be in between them.

Her head was resting against him.

Panic-stricken, Lin Youning carefully scooted inward but remembered someone else was at the edge of the bed. If she woke him, how could she face him? She slowed her movements, placing the big pillow back in between.

Gu Yifeng had already woken up with the movement beside him, but thinking of how Sister Ning cozied up to him last night, he remained pretending to sleep to ease the current awkwardness.

After setting everything, Lin Youning returned to her side of the bed, let out a sigh of relief, and then pretended to wake up, moving around before sitting up. She hesitated, "Elder Brother, it’s daylight."

Gu Yifeng moved before opening his eyes, still sleepy, "What hour is it?"

"I just woke up too, haven’t called anyone, but it’s light outside." Lin Youning lowered her head, shifting the pillow in the middle, "We should arrange it, or when they come in, they’ll be suspicious."

Gu Yifeng’s gaze swept over the pillow in the middle, then nodded, tidying his blanket before returning to the bed.

"I’ll call them in, then." Lin Youning, still embarrassed from earlier, dared not face her elder brother, quickly hopping off the bed.

Gu Yifeng was momentarily stunned, then understanding her behavior, couldn’t help but smirk, rare to see Sister Ning just as mischievous as before. In any case, her spirits were uplifted, which was good.

Shanmoi and Hailan were called in to serve, while Li Si stood outside waiting for instructions.

When Shanmoi came in with the basin, she spotted Li Si, glared, then entered, leaving Li Si scratching his head, clueless about offending her.

Nanny Guo came along too, and she was tasked with tidying the bed. Nanny Guo only glanced at the bed and understood everything.

She sighed involuntarily.

Speaking of the young lady and the Marquis being good, the issue lies in them always seeing each other as siblings over the years.

Lin Youning’s first day after her grand wedding, with Mrs. Gu Sr. being the only elder on this side of the Gu Family, she was obligated to pay respects.

She wore a peach-colored bi and a light-colored long skirt, looking as fresh as a peach blossom. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Gu Yifeng donned a plain red robe. Though he was thirty, he appeared younger than his age, having been on the battlefield, he exuded sharpness and composure, carrying the authority of a superior.

Standing together, Shanmoi couldn’t help but smile, thinking that only the Marquis could match the young lady’s appearance.

Despite constantly reassuring herself not to be nervous, Lin Youning’s ears couldn’t help but heat up when she saw her elder brother beside her.

"Let’s visit over there first, then come back for breakfast." Gu Yifeng explained, fearing she might feel uncomfortable over there.

Lin Youning knew her elder brother misunderstood, but didn’t explain more, thus concealing her guilty side. Nanny Guo observed, her eyes flickered, and lowered her head.

The Marquis might not have noticed, but the young lady looked just like a shy bride.

Nanny Guo thought of this, her lips curling into a smile, sensing that in the young lady’s heart, the Marquis was more than just a brother.

The East Courtyard and the Marquis Mansion were adjacent, so the two took a carriage directly over.

Mrs. Dong arrived early at Shi’an Garden with the concubines and the three young ladies. Mrs. Gu Sr. didn’t say much, just nodding at Mrs. Dong, "Today, the main branch of the Gu Family has welcomed a new life; our branch has always been sparse, so in the future, you must support your cousin-in-law more."

A single ’cousin-in-law’ made Mrs. Dong clench her teeth in hatred.

What kind of cousin-in-law is that?

Fighting for the same husband.

But facing her mother-in-law’s sharp gaze, Mrs. Dong had to force a smile, "Rest assured, Madam, I’m well aware of this. I will certainly support my cousin-in-law in the future."

As soon as she finished speaking, a young maid came in announcing, "The First Madam and the First Master have come to pay their respects."

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Gu Sr. was delighted, "Quickly, let them in."

How many years has Mrs. Gu Sr. waited for the words ’First Madam and First Master’?

Now she finally fulfilled her wish, and since they were both to her liking, no wonder Mrs. Gu Sr. was so pleased.
