The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 271 - 272: Awkwardness
Gu Yifeng didn’t speak and only gently patted her back, as if soothing a baby in his arms to sleep.
The movements were tender, something Gu Yifeng himself probably never imagined.
Lin Youning really did fall asleep and slept peacefully without dreaming that night. When she woke up in the morning, the quilt wrapped around her was gone. She was tightly leaning against her big brother’s chest, both covered by the same quilt.
Even through the inner garment, she could feel the other’s body warmth.
Lin Youning was completely stunned and wanted to move, but a hand placed on her waist made her unable to move. Clearly, they slept with a quilt separating them the night before. Why were they like this today?
She also knew that she wasn’t a stable sleeper; otherwise, the last time wouldn’t have happened when she kicked the pillow in the middle and ended up sleeping in her big brother’s arms again.
Before she could think more, her little movement had already awakened Gu Yifeng.
"Big brother, it’s getting late," Lin Youning said awkwardly, hoping he hadn’t noticed.
But she knew in her heart that this was just self-deception.
Gu Yifeng had actually been awake all along. The first time this happened, the little girl avoided embarrassment, so he didn’t force her and let her go back. But this time, Gu Yifeng thought if they kept doing that, their relationship would remain the same. So he decided to break the ice.
Thus, he didn’t move after waking up, waiting for the little girl in his arms to wake, pretending to wake up after her.
Gu Yifeng’s face remained unchanged, but he shifted his position, looking comfortable after sleep, "Yes, you sleep restlessly. You were covered under your own quilt last night, but in the middle of the night, I saw you kicking it off and burrowing into mine. I thought about it and didn’t pull your quilt back, just let you share with me."
Of course, that wasn’t the truth, but Gu Yifeng thought that by placing the circumstances on her, she wouldn’t be scared away.
If he weren’t afraid of scaring the Ning sister in his arms, he would have pinned her down long ago. This was the first time in his life that he felt such a way, seeing but not touching, a feeling many men might have, but Gu Yifeng, usually indifferent about matters between men and women, was experiencing it for the first time.
Gu Yifeng didn’t get up, keeping his hand on her slender waist, "Feeling shy? When did you become shy around your big brother?"
Lin Youning wished she could crawl into a hole, especially knowing she harbored special feelings for him. Big brother could face her naturally, but she couldn’t do the same.
"Big brother, let’s get up," Lin Youning said, unsure how she managed to struggle into a sitting position.
With a big movement, the collar of the inner garment she was wearing was pulled open, revealing the light yellow dudou underneath. Her face turned even redder, as if it could drip blood. She hurriedly escaped the bed, calling Shanmei in from outside.
Gu Yifeng pressed his lips, obviously pleased. When Shanmei and Hailan came, Li Si was with them, but by then, Lin Youning had taken her two maids into the inner warm pavilion.
Li Si glanced at his master, noting his good mood, and quickly stepped forward to serve, smiling broadly.
"Master, did you talk to Madam about my matter?" Seeing the Marquis in a good mood, Li Si couldn’t miss this chance.
Gu Yifeng kicked him, "I haven’t even settled my affairs. Yours can wait. The person won’t run away. We’ll discuss it in the Northwest."
Gu Yifeng was displeased inside, thinking when Ning sister would accept him. Only then could Li Si worry about marrying a wife.
Li Si chuckled, "The master is right; I’ll leave it all to you then, Master."
"Don’t worry, it’s rare for you to ask me for help. But it’s better if it’s mutual desire. Rather than intervening, you still need to make your own efforts privately." Gu Yifeng advised him before changing clothes and heading to the flower hall, with Li Si quickly following.
He followed behind, softly responding.
Li Si had set his sights on Shanmei, but he was too bashful to tell Lin Youning, worried Shanmei might refuse, thus asking Gu Yifeng for help.
Li Si didn’t know why, even though Shanmei would glare sternly at him, he couldn’t help but think of her often.
Li Si had been with his master for so long, he had developed a tendency of decisiveness. Once he made up his mind, he acted right away, never giving himself a chance to hesitate.
In the warm pavilion, Lin Youning seemed distracted. Shanmei and Hailan exchanged glances and secretly smiled.
Initially planning to stay here for three nights as at the Marquis Mansion, they ended up staying one night when the Marquis came over directly after returning from the mountains, showing how much the Marquis cared for their young lady.
The last time the lady was kidnapped, Shanmay and Hailan were knocked out and left on the road. When they woke, it was Li Si who found them.
Throughout the period until the Marquis retrieved their lady, they were at ease, especially noticing how dazed the lady had been afterwards, not knowing what transpired between the Marquis and her outside.
During breakfast, Shanmei was stopped at the door by Li Si, who was looking at her intently, much to her annoyance.
"Aren’t we headed to the Northwest? The wind and sand are harsh there, so I thought to let you know to prepare more things." Li Si smiled sheepishly.
"The lady has already told me what to prepare, there’s no need for you to interfere." Shanmei snapped back, recalling how she was found in Li Si’s arms last time.
Shanmei knew Li Si cared and saved her and Hailan, but thinking about that incident always embarrassed her, even making her a bit angry.
She always found Li Si frivolous, yet found herself held by him. It was the first time she had been held by a man.
At night, thinking about it made her both shy and angry, unsure of her feelings for Li Si. When she saw him, her shyness only grew.
Li Si didn’t mind being glared at, instead enjoying her reaction with a smile, "Even Madam knows, all because the Marquis said it. The Marquis spends all day in the military camp and can’t bother with these things. But let me tell you, I manage all the backyard affairs regularly."
