The Ogre Strength Fairy and the Eldest 'Son'-Chapter 346 - Adding And Subtracting Marks For Behavior
Chapter 346: Chapter 346 - Adding And Subtracting Marks For Behavior
"B-b-b-but more to the point!"
Doubled over on the floor - her attempt to look cute succeeding wildly but her attempt to keep calm over being praised failing - the reincarnator slowly pushed back up while breathing heavily. While her husband-wife clearly saw it as a dramatic overreaction... Elua simply could not help it.
’The words hit and I lose my composure like I’m... well, like I’m fourteen again? Only I didn’t really flirt with anyone when I was that age. I was a little busy in the first life, with less pleasant things like-’
Before the thoughts could filter any bitter feelings through their connection, the cultivator cut them off. None of that mattered now. All that mattered was Qat!
"I knew this would happen soon, but not when. It is why I’ve been preparing for our potential separation. Why I’d been busying myself making these new special brooches since we got to this fort... and so much more."
The illusionist moved to her trunk, extracting a small wooden box. Nested in the velvet she didn’t particularly want but the jeweler insisted on providing for the cost... were five tiny yellow-metal rings with a split on one side.
Sized expertly for the legs of birds of a certain size, they had been carved with an ever more complex series of micro-sigils than the current wooden ones. But of course, she was well aware that her birds had grown attached to the concept of hiding treats to keep with them.
So much so that they would sometimes stuff things back in the space in the beads, once eaten from. Which is why she had also made a new version of this storage from the chunk of remaining strong and light wood she had purchased back in the competition grounds. They would go on the alternate legs... only for this purpose.
"My Skydancers already know how to differentiate your spiritual signature from what my leg bands tell them. If needed, these will allow them to find you even when we’re far apart. Especially if you continue wearing the special brooch I’m making."
"You’ve really been expecting this?"
Qat looked at her slightly askance, as if disbelieving her... mostly because she was surprised that the heiress hadn’t told her of the possibility yet. While she knew that Elua actually was able to keep secrets from her if she thought it was the better thing to do, the swordswoman couldn’t fathom why it would be important not to warn her.
"Anticipating is what I do. And the way they’ve been watching you and not sending us back to our prior positions since your second leader kill... I figured it was only a matter of time."
The brunette carefully closed the box, her expression growing more serious after intentionally sounding a little frivolous. Mint eyes dulled just a little, but she didn’t lose her facade.
"Didn’t expect that woman from your Guild to show up, though. Was expecting a different member with a more obvious Yecine connection. How long did they say this assignment lasts?"
"They didn’t. The scroll only mentions ’duration of active Descent’. But all assignments have provisions for furlough from the Order’s charter."
"Months, then. Before your first real lengthy rest, that will allow you to return to me."
The word for that length of time sat between them with all the implications of the loneliness that would bring... for them both. After a week apart with constant letters, they had been in lots of close contact again after the invasion started.
Elua er Goltbred’s attempt to hold onto her facade cracked as a burst of ’reluctance’ tore past her shell. Pierced by a tendril of spirit that wanted to know how she really felt right now.
"We’ll have to make efficient use of our remaining time together, then."
Monotone voice and dull eyes met the calloused hand holding onto her face. She’d meant it in the sense of schemes and readying her beloved in any way she could. But the Yecine chose to take it... as sharing more and more kisses.
’Or maybe I just want them myself, more than her right now.’
The heiress was too busy with her thoughts to appreciate the small smile on the taller girl’s face as she leaned in to steal the first kiss. Lips that were soft and tender made the taller teen’s eyes lid further shut as she pressed forward.
"Mmph~!"
A ’startled’ sound from the other girl as her wrists were held. She felt the tongue of her husband-wife slide through her lips and press against her own. The reincarnator was slowly backed against the stone wall.
Pigeon blues opened as Qat pulled away and worked her lips while taking a breath. The brunette could feel her heart racing too much. While her beloved certainly did take a bit of control from time to time like this, she simply was not used to ’expecting’ it!
"Qat, you’re going a little too fast, I-"
Shivers tore through the girl as a new kiss found a spot under her chin. The Yecine’s lips and warm tongue traced a line down closer to her collarbone until she ran into silver collar of the dress her wife wore. Fingers clutched into fists as her knees went weak, letting herself be held up only by her husband-wife’s grip on her wrists.
"Q-Qat..."
The taller girl straightened and looked into the flushed cheeks of the dull eyed girl. A small amount of regret surfaced, but she didn’t let go. Just planted a light kiss against the lips more than willing. On the girl fighting to maintain her control.
"Sorry, mint-drop. You were just too sweet."
Qatrand would never feel sorry for saying those words. But just a little, she did consider being more careful with her timing in the future. For she could feel a bit of spiritual snap in a literal sense... as well as experience the physical one as she found herself bracing against the ground.
With her wife on her chest, mouth glued to her neck. Nibbling and licking the same spot with a passion that would leave a hickey. Which was exactly the point for one of them. Because new people were coming to see her Qat.
And she was not going to have another Kefa on her hands!

After Qat had pressed her wife too far and learned what it was like to have a physical Primalist making sure you were left with a mark, a spiritual Breacher lecturing you not to send energy there to heal it, and an essence Primalist cooling her own cheeks with Frost Mimicry all rolled into the same person...
She spread and organized the dossiers she’d gotten across the table. Fifteen candidates had been chosen for the seven positions, past her own. Elua glanced over the documentation while still trying to purge the last of the troublingly strong batch of hormones from her system.
"They want to deploy you quickly. Before the next predicted surge of activity. That’s why these are all fairly formidable cultivators."
The brunette observed without looking over at her spouse. Each time she did, she saw the clear love mark and felt a surge of passion reignite in her body. She was rethinking how wise this had been!
"I notice they’ve included Leysah with a certain noblewoman’s influence behind it, no doubt."
"I noticed that too."
Qat’s expression darkened just a little at the mention of the woman. While the cultivator had done no real wrong to her, and while even her wife had explained that the person was not responsible for what the past version of theirself did... it still upset her that her El had gotten so upset!
"Her combat skills are reportedly exceptional and her Element is something you could learn from as much as teach her while on this campaign."
"I don’t like how she looks at you."
"Is that a very professional assessment of her qualifications, my love?"
A huffing sound was released from the swordswoman, but the tension in her shoulders eased. When it came to her wife, she was just a little hard to convince to not hold grudges. But the persistence after getting clear rejections had also irked the Yecine.
"No, it was not very impartial. But it is a concern. I’ll be leading these people into dangerous situations. Personal dynamics matter."
Moving behind the tall girl, small hands worked at the tight muscles of her spouse’s shoulders. Even without such a sign, she would know that things were not to her beloved’s liking.
"You’re absolutely right, they do. Which is why you must consider all factors objectively first. Including whether your own personal feelings about her interest in me might cloud your judgment of an otherwise valuable ally."
Leaning back into the touch, Qat sighed more audibly than usual.
"I hate when you’re reasonable."
"No, you don’t."
"I do. It makes me think you’re planning something more unreasonable."
After their work deciding their initial picks on the candidate list, the night had grown dark for quite long. As such, they lay together on their shared bedroll. While the room was sized for one in the first place, Elua took up very little room.
The fort commander had been expecting a quick request for more space the next night, but the prodigy seemed more than willing to be packed too tightly next to their spouse. In fact, if there had been extra rooms, she would have lobbied for a share one herself!
’Good thing for him that it did not come to that~’
