Revealing my secondary gender to Park Han-su was something I did half on impulse. He wasn’t someone I had to agonize over how to tell, like my parents. He was a friend, making it easier than with my parents, and besides, even if it wasn’t Han Mirae just now, Park Han-su might try to introduce me to someone else later. I told him in advance to cut that possibility off.

Regardless of how Park Han-su took it, I had said what I needed to say. Tae-seo tapped at his keyboard. He had to finish his assignment quickly so he could go confront Kang Se-heon.

‘Who would appreciate someone showing up so suddenly like that?’

Even though he had clearly been relieved when Kang Se-heon appeared at a difficult moment yesterday, Tae-seo pursed his lips in mild annoyance.

‘Next time, I’ll make him tell me before he shows up.’

From the start, there was never a scenario where he wished Kang Se-heon wouldn’t come. He hadn’t felt this way before, but now, Kang Se-heon’s presence had become quite reassuring.

‘Did he even have dinner last night?’

"Manifestation?"

"...Damn it!"

Tae-seo flinched and leaned back in his chair when Park Han-su suddenly shouted. He quickly regained his composure.

"What? Manifestation? You manifested?"

As Park Han-su's voice grew louder, Tae-seo clamped a hand over his mouth before letting go. He hadn’t applied much pressure, just enough to signal for him to calm down, but it left faint finger marks around Han-su’s lips before they slowly faded.

"You're too loud."

"You're worried about my volume right now? When? When did you manifest?"

"Does it matter when it happened?"

Tae-seo waved his hand dismissively, but it was ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) clear that to Park Han-su, this wasn’t something trivial. He brushed Tae-seo’s hand aside and leaned in close.

"It wasn’t yesterday, was it?"

"Either way, it happened."

Tae-seo pushed Han-su’s face away and resumed typing, signaling that he didn’t want to discuss it further. The sound of his keyboard filled the room, but Han-su continued to stare at him in visible confusion. The Beta Yoon Tae-seo he had always known was gone. Whether he was an Alpha or an Omega now, he had a secondary gender, yet finding any visible change in him was difficult.

So, he wasn’t a Beta anymore... Han-su muttered to himself, but Tae-seo didn’t take his eyes off his laptop.

"Then... are you, uh... emitting pheromones now?"

Unable to spot any external differences, Han-su awkwardly brought up pheromones. As a fellow Beta, pheromones had never been relevant to him, making the concept feel entirely foreign.

"No."

"Really? But you really did manifest?"

"Yeah."

"Is that why you haven't contacted Mirae?"

"That has nothing to do with it."

Tae-seo glanced at his phone as it vibrated. A message from Han Mirae popped up at the top of the screen. He read it before looking at Han-su.

"Mirae is pretty and has a good personality, but I just don’t feel any romantic attraction. I think we’d be better off as friends."

He typed a brief reply agreeing to eat together another time and sent it before muttering,

"You don’t need to introduce me to any other Betas either."

Tae-seo firmly drew the line. Not just Betas, but anyone else, regardless of their secondary gender—but he left the rest unsaid. Han-su would get the message without needing further explanation.

He hadn’t intended to shock Han-su, but now that he had gone quiet, Tae-seo was able to concentrate on his assignment again. The time he had mentioned earlier had dwindled down to only two minutes. If Kang In-hyuk and Seo Da-rae didn’t show up in those two minutes, he’d just get up and leave.

"But... can I ask you something?"

Han-su opened and closed his mouth a few times. He had something he wanted to ask, but he was hesitating, clearly unsure if it was appropriate. His thought process was practically transparent—he was about to ask something awkward.

Tae-seo closed his laptop and leaned his elbow on top of it, resting his chin in his hand. With a bored expression, he spoke first.

"Not every Omega looks like Seo Da-rae, you know."

"Yeah? That’s good. Congrats, then."

Han-su scratched the back of his head. Now that Tae-seo had manifested, all the advice he had given earlier suddenly felt pointless. Betas were supposed to be with other Betas, but now that Tae-seo was an Omega, it made more sense for him to be with Kang Se-heon than Han Mirae.

Still, there was something about that thought that didn’t sit right.

"But I’m a little confused. You said you don’t like Kang In-hyuk anymore. But now that you’re an Omega... are you planning to confess to him?"

"Just because I became an Omega doesn’t mean I’d suddenly have feelings for him again."

"Really? Then... this is a secret, right?"

Tae-seo looked at him, confused. Han-su gestured toward someone approaching in the distance.

"I mean from In-hyuk."

Tae-seo exhaled as he saw Kang In-hyuk and Seo Da-rae walking side by side. He had been thinking about using their tardiness as an excuse to leave, but they had arrived just in time.

"Do whatever you want."

There was no reason to hide it from Kang In-hyuk, but there was nothing to gain from telling him, either. Tae-seo reopened his laptop as Han-su watched him with a complex expression. As if struggling to figure out what was going on inside Tae-seo’s head, Han-su let out a quiet sigh.

"Why would I even tell him about your manifestation? I’ll just stay quiet."

Tae-seo barely spared him a glance before nodding.

As Kang In-hyuk and Seo Da-rae approached, Han-su greeted them first.

"You made it on time."

"The coffee took longer than expected."

Kang In-hyuk shook his head slightly, as if to say their delay wasn’t intentional. Then, as he glanced around, his expression became slightly troubled. Since Tae-seo and Han-su were sitting across from each other, the remaining seats were awkwardly positioned. One of them would have to sit next to Tae-seo.

‘Seriously?’

They weren’t children, so why was he hesitating over where to sit? Tae-seo pointed at the seat beside him, gesturing for Han-su to take it.

"I’ll sit next to Tae-seo."

Understanding the cue, Han-su stood up, gathering his books and laptop. Just as he was about to move, Kang In-hyuk placed a hand on Han-su’s book, stopping him.

"It’s fine."

Kang In-hyuk sat down next to Tae-seo, setting his laptop and coffee down. Han-su hesitated for a moment before looking at him, only to find In-hyuk gazing back indifferently.

"I’m leaving soon anyway. No need to make a fuss over moving around. Da-rae, sit down too."

"Huh? Oh, okay."

Seo Da-rae, who had been watching silently, quickly took the empty seat beside Han-su. Since the three of them had already settled in, changing seats now would have seemed unnecessary, so he simply went along with it.

As if that wasn’t enough, Kang In-hyuk even adjusted Seo Da-rae’s books in front of him, making it easier to read. It was a small, thoughtful gesture, as if sitting across from him made it easier to take care of him. Seo Da-rae’s stiff expression visibly softened.

‘Of course.’

Now understanding why Kang In-hyuk had chosen to sit next to him, Tae-seo held back a scoff and turned his head away.

‘At least this way, I don’t have to look at his face.’

Tae-seo absentmindedly tapped his phone screen, checking if there were any messages from Kang Se-heon. The most recent message was still from Han Mirae, meaning there hadn’t been any contact from Se-heon yet. Meanwhile, Kang In-hyuk, who had finished preparing, tapped his pen against his book.

"Did you read all the articles I shared?"

"Yeah. I think we could use all of them, but that would make it too long. We should narrow it down to a few key ones."

Tae-seo hadn’t expected In-hyuk to start the conversation first, but since it was about their assignment, he responded in a calmer tone. After all, they were in the same group—there was no avoiding interaction altogether.

"In-hyuk, I already selected the ones I thought we should use. Do you want to see?"

Seo Da-rae turned his laptop so the screen was visible. In-hyuk hesitated for a moment before nodding and looking over the articles Da-rae had highlighted.

The project naturally revolved around the two of them, while Tae-seo quietly listened. He had no intention of interrupting or interfering. He also ignored the glances from Park Han-su, who kept looking at him like he had something to say.

"Shall we go with this?"

After wrapping up his discussion with Seo Da-rae, In-hyuk turned to the group, asking if they were fine with the article selections and presentation format.

"I'm good with it. If we put it together like this, the final product is going to be impressive."

Park Han-su quickly agreed, making Da-rae smile in satisfaction. In-hyuk then turned his attention to Tae-seo.

"I'm fine with it too."

Tae-seo nodded without hesitation. However, for some reason, In-hyuk didn’t seem convinced and double-checked.

"You can’t change your mind later. None of the sources you brought in are included—are you really okay with that?"

"I’m not going to change my mind. That’s settled, then? I’m leaving."

Just as In-hyuk said, Tae-seo had also prepared materials for the project, but none of them were used. Still, he showed no sign of being bothered by it as he packed up his books.

To In-hyuk, it felt unfamiliar. The Tae-seo he knew always wanted things to go his way. Seeing him go along so easily now felt oddly diluted, like he was holding himself back. That’s why, before he realized it, In-hyuk reached out and stopped Tae-seo.

"What’s this?"

"Are you seriously okay with this? No complaints at all?"

In-hyuk’s skeptical expression made Tae-seo exhale sharply, irritation creeping up his throat.

"Do you really need to ask twice?"

"It’ll be a hassle if we have to change things later. Have you already forgotten how you used to act?"

"Hey, In-hyuk."

Park Han-su cut in, sensing the conversation was on the verge of becoming tense. In-hyuk was openly pointing out that Tae-seo had been difficult in the past, which could escalate things if he wasn’t careful. Han-su had already been worried about how things would go, knowing Tae-seo had gathered everyone together in hopes of getting a good grade.

However, before Han-su could grab In-hyuk’s arm to stop him, Tae-seo let out a short laugh.

"I’m not the person I was yesterday."

Instead of reacting with annoyance, Tae-seo brushed it off with laughter, leaving In-hyuk momentarily speechless. He stared at Tae-seo, confused, not even noticing that Da-rae had placed a hand on his shoulder.

"In-hyuk, let it go."

Da-rae didn’t want In-hyuk and Tae-seo getting tangled up in anything. He would have preferred to just pull In-hyuk away from the situation, but In-hyuk remained unmoved.

Meanwhile, Tae-seo casually pulled his arm free and slung his bag over his shoulder.

"Actually, I just thought of something I wanted to say."

Contrary to the impression that he had let the matter slide, Tae-seo smirked as if deliberately provoking In-hyuk. He watched in real time as In-hyuk’s brows furrowed.

"Next time, let’s just continue in the lecture hall instead of meeting outside like today... Han-su."

He kept his gaze on In-hyuk but ended his sentence by calling Han-su’s name.
