"The CEO is waiting for you."

Han Mi-sun, visiting the hotel after a long time, followed the secretary’s guidance. As she raised her hand to remove the sunglasses that covered half of her face, she suddenly bumped into something.

“Ah!”

The man passing by had been carrying something, and when their arms collided, Han Mi-sun let out a short scream.

"I’m sorry."

As she turned around, she realized the man had been unable to see properly because of the large bouquet in his arms. It wasn’t a hard collision, just a light brush of the flowers against her arm, so she waved it off, telling him she was fine. The man bowed again and quickly walked away.

However, Han Mi-sun stood there, tilting her head slightly as she watched his retreating back.

"Could that be Tae-seo?"

The bouquet had been so large that it had obscured half of his face, so she couldn’t be sure. She considered following him, but then decided against it. If she was mistaken, it would be an unnecessary detour. After all, she wasn’t here to meet Tae-seo today but someone else.

She immediately got into the elevator and went up. Looking at her reflection in the elevator doors, she repeatedly pursed and relaxed her lips, wiping away the heavy makeup under her eyes with her ring finger as she muttered to herself.

"I need to get a definite answer, no matter what."

Lately, Han Mi-sun had been uneasy, unable to eat or sleep properly. When she tried to lie down at night, thoughts of Seo Da-rae, «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» who was staying at her son’s house, filled her mind. During the day, her thoughts were consumed by Kang Se-heon, making it hard for her to focus on anything.

Her constant unease had started to affect her health. She had persistent tension headaches and had been prescribed sleeping pills for her insomnia. Even at the beauty salon, they had commented on her rough skin, asking if something was wrong. Her eyes were noticeably puffy from lack of rest, and the exhaustion showed.

That’s why she had decided to contact Kim Mi-kyung first. She had planned to wait until Tae-seo manifested as an Omega, but at this point, she felt like she might collapse if she didn’t do something soon.

"I should get Tae-seo engaged."

If she could time it so that the engagement and wedding lined up with the kids’ graduation, all the problems bothering her would be solved. She could separate Seo Da-rae from In-hyuk and gain a strong ally in dealing with Kang Se-heon. The key was to persuade Kim Mi-kyung today.

As the elevator doors opened, Han Mi-sun looked ahead with a determined expression.

"Sister."

At her greeting, Kim Mi-kyung immediately stood up. With a warm smile, she gestured toward the sofa and signaled the secretary to prepare tea before leaving.

"It’s been a while."

"It has. I’ve been so busy I couldn’t call. You’ve been busy with work too, right?"

The last time they met, Kim Mi-kyung had been upset because of Tae-seo. Han Mi-sun decided not to bring it up, redirecting the conversation.

"I’m always like that."

As the secretary set down the coffee, Kim Mi-kyung looked at Han Mi-sun with a gentle smile. Holding her coffee cup, she spoke as though the words flowed naturally.

"Work’s been busy, and I’ve had to keep an eye on Tae-seo."

Kim Mi-kyung had once shed tears in front of Han Mi-sun when Tae-seo ran away from home. Now, with Tae-seo’s name being mentioned, Han Mi-sun jumped at the chance to talk about it.

"Actually, I went to In-hyuk’s house recently, but Tae-seo wasn’t there."

Instead, she had found Seo Da-rae there, which had been a huge shock. At the time, she had been too flustered to call Kim Mi-kyung. But now it seemed Kim Mi-kyung had something to say about the situation as well.

"Yes, Tae-seo came back home. He was staying at someone’s house..."

When she mentioned “someone,” Kim Mi-kyung paused briefly, as if lost in thought, but then quickly carried on with an unaffected tone. Han Mi-sun, sensing an opportunity, leaned in closer to Kim Mi-kyung.

"I’m so glad he came back. He’s such a well-behaved and kind boy; I can’t imagine how tough things must have been for him. You must be surprised, but I really felt for Tae-seo."

Han Mi-sun patted Kim Mi-kyung’s arm, repeatedly assuring her how good it was that Tae-seo had returned. Han Mi-sun had long noticed that her son didn’t like Tae-seo, so she often made a point of showing affection for him. Perhaps that was why Kim Mi-kyung didn’t find Han Mi-sun’s behavior strange.

"I completely understand Tae-seo’s feelings."

Han Mi-sun added, as if she could truly understand him. She had heard from Kim Mi-kyung about Tae-seo’s mistake and the reason he had run away. Back then, they had focused on the mystery of where Tae-seo had gone, but today, Han Mi-sun’s tone was different.

"It’s not Tae-seo’s fault. Manifestation isn’t something that just happens whenever you want. For a child waiting for it, it can be exhausting. It’s no wonder that frustration leads to mistakes."

She spoke as if she were the only one who could truly empathize with Tae-seo.

"So, I’ve been thinking..."

Han Mi-sun trailed off, prompting Kim Mi-kyung to glance at her. She wondered what Han Mi-sun was taking her time to say.

"What do you think about getting Tae-seo and In-hyuk engaged?"

"Engagement?"

Kim Mi-kyung asked, taken aback.

"Yes. I was planning to wait a bit longer, but there’s no reason not to go ahead now. We can have them engaged and then married after graduation. The reason Tae-seo’s manifestation started is because he’s in love with In-hyuk, right? I feel terrible for making him wait so long."

Kim Mi-kyung, who should have been overjoyed by the idea, looked conflicted. Han Mi-sun didn’t notice this and continued talking.

"I don’t care if Tae-seo doesn’t manifest as an Omega."

She smiled sweetly. The important thing was not Tae-seo’s condition, but that he was Yoon Tae-seo. She needed him.

"A college student, huh."

The suit just didn’t seem to suit him. Hearing that Tae-seo was a college student, Seo Eun-hee and Kang Jin-han had very different reactions. While Eun-hee, who had already thought Tae-seo looked young, wasn’t too surprised, Kang Jin-han narrowed his eyes and looked at his son.

The age gap was significant. Unlike their son, who was already a working adult, Tae-seo was still a fresh-faced college student. Kang Jin-han’s gaze made it clear—he was sizing Tae-seo up as if he were a criminal.

"No matter how much you stare, Tae-seo’s age won’t change."

"And neither will yours. Just how much younger is he...?"

Kang Jin-han openly referred to Tae-seo as a kid, which made Tae-seo awkwardly pat his own cheek. He had worn the suit today not only to be polite but also in hopes of looking a little more like Se-heon. But it seemed like he had completely miscalculated.

To Se-heon’s parents, he was nothing more than a child.

Feeling unsure, Tae-seo looked at Se-heon.

"Don’t worry about it. I’ll be the one taking the heat, so just relax."

Se-heon seemed to read his expression and tried to comfort him with words that were meant to be reassuring, though Tae-seo wasn’t sure how much comfort they offered.

"You want me to just watch you get scolded?"

Tae-seo whispered to Se-heon, slightly leaning toward him. Se-heon, making sure his parents couldn’t hear, lowered his voice.

"If anyone could, it’d be you. With a bucket of popcorn."

Tae-seo huffed, annoyed.

"If you keep talking like that... I’d buy a variety pack of popcorn."

"Do what you like."

Se-heon smiled and straightened up. Then, turning to his parents, he said, with a confident expression,

"Age doesn’t matter."

His tone was as if he were addressing a business risk assessment. Kang Jin-han shook his head, unable to do anything about it. This was his son—stubborn even at work. Why would it be any different now?

"By the way, have we met before? Your name is familiar."

Seo Eun-hee asked, looking at Tae-seo. It wasn’t just his face that seemed familiar—his name also rang a bell. She couldn’t quite place it, but something about it felt off.

Se-heon quickly answered her curiosity.

"He goes to the same school as In-hyuk. They’ve known each other since childhood, so you might have heard his name through Aunt Mi-kyung."

"Oh, that must be it! I’ve heard that name somewhere before..."

As Seo Eun-hee spoke, her voice began to trail off. The moment she realized who Tae-seo was, her mind began racing back to things she had heard from Han Mi-sun.

There was a boy who hung out with In-hyuk. That boy liked In-hyuk. He was a Beta now, but once he manifested as an Omega, they planned to get them together. They said that it would be great if Se-heon had someone like that too.

Could this be the same boy?

After a brief hesitation, Seo Eun-hee asked cautiously,

"What’s your secondary gender?"

"I’m an Omega."

When Tae-seo confirmed it, Seo Eun-hee couldn’t help but be confused. Could it be him? Or has he already manifested? She still couldn’t shake the uncertainty from her expression.
