Chapter 84: 084 Thanks to my husband (first update)

The shopkeeper saw a group of strong men standing at the entrance of the alley, staring right at him.

Each of them had a knife, and at a glance, they were clearly seasoned fighters, who would strike without hesitation and kill without batting an eye.

Especially when he saw Li Xianyun standing very close to a man who looked both proud and ferocious, as if they were quite familiar with each other.

He grew even more afraid.

Could it be she had found help to come and beat him up again?

It was over; he was going to die here today.

The shopkeeper let out a cry of alarm and then blacked out, fainting away.

Li Xianyun turned her head and said to Yelu Yan with a smile, "It seems there’s no need to teach him a lesson anymore."

Her smile was sweet, warming the heart like a breath of spring.

Yelu Yan looked down at her with a gaze full of indulgence and love, and said with a smile, "Then let’s go."

"Mhm."

Go? Go where?

Li Xianyun had just taken a step when she realized something and asked, "My lord, where are we going?"

Yelu Yan looked at her, his lips curving into a smile, and said, "Your husband is headed to the military camp to check on the trebuchet you designed. Do you want to come and take a look?"

"Has it really been built already in just a few short days?" Li Xianyun asked with a hint of excitement.

"Mhm."

Yelu Yan was handsome, with a manly vitality and a very pleasant voice.

"I want to go see." Li Xianyun said with a smile.

She was very interested in mechanical devices and could hardly pull herself away when encountering interesting machinery.

Let alone a trebuchet she had designed herself; she absolutely couldn’t miss it.

Yelu Yan looked at her and hummed in response.

The two walked side by side to the entrance of the alley, where Li Xianyun immediately noticed something was wrong; under the lush-leafed locust tree, there were only three horses. Where was her Xiaoxue?

Li Xianyun, looking panicked, clutched at Yelu Yan’s sleeve and said anxiously, "My lord, Xiaoxue is missing. Could someone have taken her away?"

Yelu Yan seemed to casually look over the delicate hand that Li Xianyun had placed on his sleeve and then said to her, "Your white horse is wild and stubborn; it wouldn’t easily follow someone else. It likely broke free and ran away."

A guard started to speak but was glared at by Jinwu.

He quickly shut his mouth.

Earlier, that exceptionally beautiful white horse had bitten through its reins and gone off to graze by the pond.

The Khan and everyone saw it; why didn’t they tell the empress?

Watching the empress in distress, why didn’t they feel any sympathy?

Li Xianyun let go of Yelu Yan’s sleeve and looked around, saying, "That can’t be; I tied it tightly."

She was always meticulous and would not make such a basic mistake.

Yelu Yan took hold of her slender arm and said, "No worries, let Bater and the others look for the white horse; you come with your husband to the military camp."

"But..."

Zhuo Ma spoke up, "My lady, rest assured, we will definitely find Xiaoxue."

Youlan added, "Yes, my lady, perhaps Xiaoxue felt bored here and went back to the palace on her own."

"Let’s go," said Yelu Yan.

"But without Xiaoxue, how am I supposed to get there?"

Zhuo Ma hesitated, then boldly suggested, "My lady, why not ride on the same horse as the Khan? His horse is very fast."

Upon hearing this, Yelu Yan’s gaze fixed intently on Li Xianyun’s face, not missing any flicker of expression.

A fleeting emotion crossed the depths of his eyes, but he quickly concealed his feelings.

Li Xianyun said with some difficulty, "That doesn’t seem quite proper."

Not wanting to make her uncomfortable and seeing her shy and troubled manner, Yelu Yan placed his hand to his mouth and blew a long whistle.

From not far away, there came the long neigh of a spirited horse, followed closely by the crisp sound of strong hooves striking the stone-paved road.

Soon, a nimble white horse, lifting its hooves energetically, came galloping over.

Li Xianyun was delighted and walked forward a few steps to meet her Xiaobai, saying, "You naughty little thing, you’ve given your sister quite the search."

The warm sun, old trees, spirited horse, and beautiful woman—it was truly a sight for sore eyes.

Li Xianyun stroked the white horse’s shiny mane and noticed that the reins had been bitten short.

"You really are a troublemaker, who allowed you to bite the reins?"

Li Xianyun gave it a light pat and, turning to Yelu Yan, couldn’t help but express her admiration, "Husband, you are amazing, could you teach me how to whistle when you’re free?"

Yelu Yan walked up to her, looked down at her blooming smile, and his mouth curved up, saying, "What’s so difficult about that?"

"Thank you, husband." Li Xianyun’s smile grew even brighter.

Sweet-talking makes work easier, Li Xianyun had concluded from experience.

Yelu Yan stared at her radiant little face and for a moment was somewhat stunned.

Does this woman know how attractive she is when she smiles?

His handsome Adam’s apple bobbed as he cleared his throat and said, "Get on the horse."

Saying so, Yelu Yan took the reins from her hand and, with his rough, large hand, steadied the horse’s back.

Li Xianyun with her small hand grasped the saddle, put her foot into the stirrup, and swung herself onto the horse with a motion as smooth and neat as flowing clouds and water.

Once set, Li Xianyun reached out her hand to Yelu Yan.

Yelu Yan looked up at her, her fair little face blushing slightly in the sunlight, pale as snow, red as delicate blossoms, tender enough to pinch water from.

She never skimped on her smiles, her bright eyes kind, her teeth white and lips red, embodying all the world’s beauty in herself.

Yelu Yan hesitated for a moment, then passed the reins to Li Xianyun’s hand, accidentally touching her smooth little hand—it was cool and slick.

They say women are made of water, it seems to be true.

Jinwu led Yelu Yan’s Fiery Flame Horse over.

Yelu Yan took the reins and mounted the horse.

The others also mounted their horses one after another.

Looking at Li Xianyun’s expectant eyes, Yelu Yan smiled and said, "Once we leave Shangjing, don’t run off; stay beside your husband."

Li Xianyun nodded with a smile and obediently said, "Okay."

Since her marriage to the Khitan, Li Xianyun’s farthest trip had been two visits to Shitoutun, beyond that, she hadn’t traveled any further.

She was eager to go out and see the world beyond.

Yelu Yan gave Li Xianyun a glance, spurred his horse, and headed toward the city gates.

Li Xianyun followed closely behind.

The guards hurriedly spurred their horses to follow.

The party proceeded majestically out of the city gates.

Around Shangjing lay various bustling small towns, and further out, the grasslands stretched even wider.

Under the sunlight, distant mountains seemed even greener and also bore hints of beautiful deep blue.

In the open fields, at the foot of the mountains, shepherds could often be seen herding horses and sheep.

The white sheep clustered together like clouds that had descended to the earth.

What most amazed Li Xianyun was seeing the herd of horses running freely by the river.

Strong and majestic herdsmen chased after them, waving their long whips.

Although far away, Li Xianyun could still hear the crisp sound of whips cutting through the air, as well as the deep calls of the herdsmen.

They uttered only a few exclamatory words, drawing out the sounds with no actual meaning.

Yet it sounded as pleasant as a broken song.

Sometimes, eagles soared in the sky, and Li Xianyun couldn’t help but look up.

The sky so high, the land so vast, everything around was so beautiful and free.
