Chapter 96: 096 The lady is truly fortunate (first watch/update)

The village chief said with a smile, "Please, honored guest, this way."

At that moment, a woman walked out of the tent, an older woman, likely the village chief’s wife.

She had two long braids draped over her chest.

Li Xianyun noticed that women on the grasslands, no matter their age, liked to wear two long braids.

The village chief’s wife, clearly not used to seeing so many strangers all at once, seemed somewhat reserved as she said, "Please... please come in and sit, the milk tea is all prepared."

They were truly both hospitable and simple.

Li Xianyun really liked this atmosphere.

She and Yelu Yan followed the village chief into the tent.

The maids and guards waited respectfully outside the tent.

For Li Xianyun, it was her first time entering a tent.

The inside was very spacious, with a tall pillar in the center supporting the tent cover.

The top of the tent sloped down from the center in all directions.

There were several wooden slats carved with designs on the tent cover, which spread out uniformly like a blooming flower, ensuring the tent top was firmly supported.

The ground inside the tent was covered with carpets everywhere but by the entrance.

The carpets were adorned with beautiful patterns characteristic of the ethnic group.

At the very back of the tent was a low bed, only as high as a person’s lower leg.

The bed was quite spacious, taking up half the area of the tent and was large enough for more than ten people to lie down side by side.

There was also a low table placed on the bed.

It was suitable for both sleeping and entertaining guests.

In the corner of the tent was a tall, simple rack with bowls, teapots, pots, and other daily necessities.

Next to the rack stood a cabinet, probably holding clothes, blankets, and the like.

Though the tent was not crammed with items, it lacked none of the essentials.

It was both clean and tidy, enough to show the village chief’s wife was diligent and good at managing the household.

Seeing a shoe rack by the entrance, Li Xianyun looked up at Yelu Yan and said, "My lord, shall we remove our shoes so as not to dirty the carpet?"

Yelu Yan replied with a smile, "Alright, as you wish."

The village chief’s wife chuckled, "Honored guests need not take off their shoes; just come in directly."

Li Xianyun smiled back, "We should still take off our shoes to avoid giving you extra cleaning."

The village chief’s wife appreciated Li Xianyun’s consideration.

Though the carpet in the tent looked nice, it was quite troublesome to clean.

The carpet was extremely large and thick. It was not only hard to wash, but it also took four or five days to completely dry after a wash.

Li Xianyun was about to bend down to take off her shoes when Yelu Yan gently held her arm and said tenderly, "Sit on the stool over there."

Only then did Li Xianyun notice two small stools near the entrance, obviously meant for people to sit on while taking off their shoes.

She walked over and sat down.

Just as she did, Yelu Yan followed and knelt in front of her, bending down to take off her shoes.

Li Xianyun was taken aback. What was this? Yelu Yan wanted to take off her shoes for her?

She quickly put her small hand on his sturdy arm and said with barely parted red lips, "I can do it myself."

Yelu Yan looked up at her and smiled, "Just sit still."

His tone was incredibly gentle, and his eyes shone with laughter.

Li Xianyun felt a bit embarrassed and let her gaze fall on the front of his robe, saying no more.

The village chief and his wife exchanged surprised glances at the scene.

In their eyes, Yelu Yan was a towering hero who wasn’t concerned with trivialities. They hadn’t expected such tender feelings from a great hero.

Yelu Yan looked at Li Xianyun’s small face, the corners of his mouth curling up even more.

He leaned down to pick up one of her small feet.

Her feet were very small, even smaller than his hands, cute and lovely.

Yelu Yan gently removed her shoes and set them aside.

He knew that Han people were quite conservative, and a woman’s feet could only be seen by her husband, only be touched by her husband.

This was already the second time he had removed her shoes for her, though the last time, she was heavy with sleep and unaware.

Yelu Yan then removed her other shoe, hooking it with his index and middle finger as he stood up.

Li Xianyun saw that he hadn’t removed his own shoes and rose to her feet, saying, "Husband, sit down and remove your shoes, I’ll put them away."

As she spoke, she reached for the shoes in Yelu Yan’s hand.

He dodged her attempt and chuckled, "Just wait."

Yelu Yan walked over to the shoe rack and neatly placed her shoes on the top shelf.

After doing so, he bent down to remove his own shoes.

This time his movements were somewhat casual, completely lacking the gentleness he had shown when removing Li Xianyun’s shoes.

Yelu Yan placed his own shoes beside Li Xianyun’s.

The two pairs of shoes, one large and one small, were placed very close together.

When Yelu Yan looked up, he saw Li Xianyun watching him, her eyes as captivating and lively as autumn waters.

Seeing her suddenly avert her gaze, Yelu Yan couldn’t help but smile.

The village chief’s wife, upon seeing Yelu Yan straighten up, said with a smile, "Benefactor, you are really good to your wife."

She was accustomed to seeing women serve men but had hardly ever seen a man serve a woman.

Yelu Yan smiled and said, "Of course, one must pamper one’s own woman."

These words entered Li Xianyun’s ears without any guard.

Even though she knew he was just speaking casually, Li Xianyun’s heartbeat still skipped a half-beat.

The village chief, looking at Li Xianyun with a smile, said, "Madam is truly a fortunate person to have such a good husband."

Li Xianyun pursed her lips and responded with a soft "mm-hm."

Her voice was very small and gentle; the couple took it as a sign of her being shy.

The village chief said, "Please don’t stand, have a seat over here."

He then led Yelu Yan and Li Xianyun to a soft couch.

There were several round cushions around the table for the guests to sit on.

After Yelu Yan sat down, he placed a cushion beside himself and looked up at Li Xianyun.

Understanding his intent, Li Xianyun raised her fair, delicate hand and slightly lifted the front of her dress, sitting down properly and demurely.

Once seated, she looked down and neatly arranged her long gown over her legs.

She did so earnestly and gracefully.

Yelu Yan couldn’t help but look at her a few more times, wondering why every one of her movements was so adorable.

The village chief’s wife brought over a tray from a nearby shelf, which held a long-spouted golden teapot along with six matching long-handled teacups.

She knelt by the table and poured a cup, passing it to Yelu Yan first.

Yelu Yan accepted it, subtly placing it in front of Li Xianyun. freewёbnoνel.com

He kept the second cup of milk tea, passed by the village chief’s wife, for himself.

Once everyone had milk tea in front of them, the village chief’s wife sat by the village chief’s side.

The village chief said with a smile, "Benefactor and Madam, please taste and see how you find it."

Yelu Yan took a sip from the tea cup; it was salty milk tea, which Li Xianyun did not like to drink.

He couldn’t help but turn to look at Li Xianyun.

She was holding the tea cup with both her fair small hands and had already taken a sip.

The village chief’s wife looked at Li Xianyun expectantly and asked with a smile, "Madam, how do you find the taste?"

Li Xianyun nodded and replied, "It’s very tasty."

She said this and took another sip, appearing to enjoy it very much.
