Chapter 63: Black Box

Later that day...

"Wow, Fish again. You shouldn’t have." Aofie pushed the plate away, stood up and walked over to the edge of the ship, where Esme was.

It was lunchtime but because of Adeline’s little punishment, Wise had picked a table close to the edge of the ship, from here they would at least see whatever was coming early.

Esme was not too interested in having lunch so she picked up her plate and was feeding her fish to a group of dolphins that had approached the ship.

Daphne was eating a vegetable salad she had procured in a way Wise was unsure of, while Freya was once again staring at her hands.

Wise had noticed this antic a number of times, even before he had mentioned that they would be going to the Skentic ruins, Freya had always been invested in her abilities.

If her ability wasn’t so difficult, she would have probably made headway by now but due to its nature, she was still backward.

It was the most troublesome ability Wise had acquired, even up till now he still hadn’t figured it out. Currently, he was probably on the same level as or even lesser than Freya.

Wise placed a piece of fish in his mouth then washed it down with red wine, after which he placed his hand in his pocket and pulled out two back boxes.

Daphne eyed the boxes, lifting an eyebrow as though to ask "What is that?" But Freya was too engrossed in her business to notice.

So Wise snapped his finger to gain her attention.

Freya paused and looked up. "Oh, sorry I got carried away."

Wise lifted the black box. "This was something I got while in the Ork city."

It was a black box made out of many segments very similar to a Rubix cube. It was a toy popular with the children in the town.

But he had a more sturdy version custom made.

Freya observed the black box, looking slightly confused when Wise continued.

"I know I said our training will start at the Skentic Ruins, but I believe you can make significant progress before we get there."

He moved the black box towards her and placed it in her hands.

Fraya flipped the toy, watching as the cubes shifted into place.

"You have been practicing for so long without a medium which is stagnating your growth."

Freya’s eyes brightened when she connected the dots. "Are you saying—"

Wise smiled. "Try it."

Freya stared at the box and concentrated her spiritual energy into it, meanwhile, Daphne looked at the box just as curious as her.

Whoosh! freeweɓnovel~cѳm

The box suddenly spun, the separate parts rotating with so much speed that a small gust of wind blew against them.

Panicking, Freya dropped the box and it clashed against the table before rolling to a stop.

"You used too much spiritual energy, you need to balance it, give it just enough, not too much, not too small.." Wise picked up the box and placed it in her hand, watching her curiously.

Her ability was so powerful that it could rearrange a duplex. Concentrating it on such a small object was fueling it with far too much power.

Wise had figured that part out after shattering tens of such similar toys, but even then he couldn’t get it to rotate peacefully.

His Draconic energy was just too great.

But there was a chance Freya could do it.

Freya picked up the cube and focused, watching the cube with a nervous expression.

Whirlll!

The cube began to spin, it was still far faster than needed but this time she did not let go, instead, she reduced her spiritual energy flow and the cube began to slow down— just before it suddenly flew out of her hands once more.

Freya let out an annoyed sigh, sweat already forming on her face. But after staring at the cube for some time she smiled.

"This is excellent! Thank you Wise!"

Wise nodded. "I’ll coach you on how to manage your ability, and in return..."

He knew about energy manipulation and stabilization, all he had to do was guide her so he didn’t need to know how to use the ability to teach her.

"...and in return." Wise picked up the second cube and suddenly, a blue aura enveloped it. The cube began to spin in a crazed manner, it was moving so fast that Wise could feel heat generating in his hands, right before it burst.

"In return, you will teach me how to use your ability."

A short silence settled over them as both Freya and Daphne watched him in shock.

Wise had shown his ability to manipulate shadows in the arena but he could have easily said he was also a shadow user.

One ability could be a coincidence, but two...

"You can use our abilities..." Daphne said quietly, leaning forward.

Wise smiled and relaxed his back on the chair. "I have an ability that allows me to copy people’s ability as long as certain conditions are met."

There was no real reason to keep it away from them, especially since they would soon enter the Skentic ruins.

That way they wouldn’t be shocked when they see him teaching them with their own skills.

Freya looked completely shocked. "Copy skills? That... that ability sounds too powerful to be true."

Still, they had witnessed it with their own eyes, there was no denying it.

"You can copy skills?!" Aofie asked from where she stood, looking completely mortified by the fact. "Did you copy my—"

TZZZZZZZZ

Blue currents danced in Wise’s fingertips, curling around his arm before fizzling away.

Aofie’s eyes became watery. "That’s not fair! How am I supposed to beat you if you have my skills?!"

’Is the dignified Ork princess really throwing a tantrum now?’

Esme still had her eyes glued on the dolphins but he could tell that she was listening.

Wise signed and picked up his goblet to take another sip of wine.

"With this ability, I will be able to train you all far better and take you to new lengths. By the time we leave the Skentic ruins, you will all be Knight Level."

It was a very bold claim. Knights were a specialised force that obtained training for five years before achieving their role.

How was he going to achieve such a feat in such a short time?

They were about to ask when Esme pointed at a small distortion in the sea.

"Umm guys, I think it’s here."
