The Regressor's Younger Brother's Insanity-Chapter 63: Tears of Gratitude
Aether was headed toward the physician’s hall with Thalia to check on her brother’s condition.
After he woke up from fighting the dragon, it was already nighttime, so he hadn’t visited Thalia’s brother and decided to see him in the morning.
"So, he hasn’t gained consciousness?" Aether asked Thalia.
"Yes, the chief physician deduced it would take some days." Thalia replied.
"Is that so..."
"Haven’t you slept well? You look gloomy." Thalia asked, noticing Aether’s sleepy eyes.
"It’s nothing." Aether answers while rubbing his eyes.
The reason for his exhaustion was that he had to explain everything about Solmira to his little sister, Lyra. Still, he was happy to see Lyra getting along with Solmira.
She had been really happy to see Solmira. She even played house with her and other girly games. This was also the first time Solmira had ever played with another little girl. Thus, they quickly became best friends.
As Aether headed to see Thalia’s brother, the two of them were playing in the garden. The triplets were there with them as well.
The funny part was that the triplets were wearing bodyguard-style uniforms and pretending to be their guards.
Ha... children are truly innocent and cute, Aether thought to himself while chuckling.
While he was lost in thought, they reached the room where Thalia’s brother was recovering.
In front of the room, many Ravenfall family warriors stood guard.
After seeing Thalia and Aether, they bowed and moved away from the entrance. Then they removed the many protective barriers placed around the room and signaled Aether and Thalia to enter.
Is this much protection even nessecarry! Aether clicked his tongue.
Then, Aether and Thalia entered the room.
The room was plain-looking, with only a single bed. On that bed, Thalia’s brother, Azel von Ravenfall, lay unconscious.
He had a shaved head and a skinny body. At first glance, he might have looked lifeless, but his pulse was still running.
"This is my brother, Azel von Ravenfall, the heir of the Ravenfall family." Thalia introduced him with pride.
"He’s doing better than I thought." Aether said.
"It’s all thanks to Solmira." Thalia bowed politely. "I’m in your debt."
Aether stayed silent. Thalia’s father had also said the same thing.
Having the Ravenfall family in my debt is a huge support, Aether thought to himself.
Then, out of curiosity, Aether asked,
"May I check his condition?" He wanted to see whether Solmira had truly absorbed all the corrupt mana from Thalia’s brother.
"Yes, please." Thalia also wanted Aether to check on her brother.
Aether then grabbed Azel’s hand and channeled his mana into his body to see if there was still any corrupt mana left.
Fwooosh
As expected, Solmira absorbed it completely. Aether smiled softly.
Solmira has the same system window, so it wasn’t unexpected. Even if she had failed to absorb the corrupt mana, it would have just been stored in her system.
Then Aether stood up and looked at Thalia. "There’s not a trace of corrupt mana left. I hope he wakes up soon."
Upon hearing this, tears welled up in her eyes. She had constantly suffered from the guilt of not being able to help her brother. But now, her brother was finally being treated. She couldn’t wait to talk to him, and it was all possible because of Aether’s help.
She quickly grabbed Aether’s hand and started crying loudly.
"Thank you... thank you... thank you so... much..."
Aether would have acted coldly if this were his past life. But now, he understands what family is and how important it is in our lives.
Thus, he placed his hand on Thalia’s hand, which was holding his, and spoke in a soft tone,
"You don’t have to thank me. I did nothing. The one who did everything was you. Your will and love for your brother made him better, and I think that’s the best part about you."
As Aether spoke with a tone different from his usual, Thalia’s heart started beating violently. She quickly removed her hand from his and turned away shyly.
"Young lord, Aether. Let us go now. I promised Solmira I would play with her."
"Oh... okay."
Thus, both of them left the room.
* * *
As Aether and Thalia headed to the main mansion, they saw the estate’s main gate opening, and a couple of luxurious carriages entering. They bore the logo of the Rajuk Caeloria Academy.
Aether realized they belonged to the student council, and his sister was inside one of the carriages. Although he was eager to meet her, he didn’t have the courage to face her, knowing how much she had sacrificed while all he had done was misunderstand her.
I promised myself I wouldn’t have any regrets in this life. As he collected his thoughts, he headed to where everyone was standing to greet the student council members.
There was Aether’s mother, his little sister Lyra, the triplets, and even Solmira, who was being carried by Cierra.
Many servants and nobles were present as well. The reason was that one of the Academy’s professors was accompanying the student council.
As Aether arrived at the mansion’s square, everyone looked at him as if confused.
The reason was simple. Everyone knew that Aether’s sister, Malaika, had tried to kill him, and that he had said many harsh things to her out of feeling betrayed. So it was unexpected to see Aether come and greet them.
Meanwhile, Aether’s mother looked at him and said in a confused tone,
"Why are you here?"
"My big sister has returned! Shouldn’t I be here?" Aether replied.
Hearing his reply, Aether’s mother’s eyes welled up with tears.
Even after hearing that Malaika had tried to assassinate Aether, she didn’t believe it, as they had a loving bond. But when Malaika was questioned about the attempt, she remained silent, leaving Aether’s mother heartbroken. She only wanted her children to live happily, yet a crack had appeared in the family.
But hearing Aether’s words made her believe that her children could still be together, laughing.
