Chapter 61: The Fall Festival? (2)

Adrien left the classroom deep in thought. His previous thoughts about Aisley were now at the back of his mind. What took up the forefront of his mind were thoughts about the Fall Festival and what kind of painting he should submit to the gallery.

Even if submitting a piece of work was optional, he still wanted to do one. But in what style should he paint? He couldn’t use his usual style or preference since his work was already becoming known underneath another name, one that he did not want tied to Adrien Mallorne yet.

He made his way to the cafeteria. There was still some time left until Mikyle was free from his class so he didn’t grab anything to eat but instead decided to find an empty spot to sit.

Adrien looked through his bag, trying to figure out what to do to take his mind off of the Fall Festival conundrum. He could draw something. Drawing could help take his mind off things that were out of his control while simultaneously trying to figure out what the subject of his painting should be.

His hand paused in its search when his eyes landed on a certain book. I forgot that I packed the diary. I haven’t written anything in it for a couple of days.

Adrien made his decision and pulled the diary out. After looking around to make sure no one was paying any attention to him, he turned to a blank page and scribbled down the day’s date. The tip of his pen struck the page as he thought of what to write.

’Sorry for not writing for a while. A lot has happened in just the span of a few days so things have been feeling a little hectic here lately. I’ll tell you more about it once I figure some more things out. But what I will say is this, that I might not actually be the Count’s son. It’s strange, but it makes a lot of sense.’ 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Adrien glanced at his words. He wanted to write about it, to explain everything he had experienced by the Count’s hand. . .though in actuality, it was the Original Adrien who had experienced the worst of it. But he resisted the urge to go into detail since he didn’t want his sisters to worry. It’s not like they will ever even read this, but I still can’t bring myself to write about it even while knowing that this diary will never reach them.

’There’s been more happenings going on than just with the Count. The other day, Mikyle revealed to me that he is part dragon or descended from a dragon– to be honest, I’m still trying to figure out what he means by inheriting the dragon’s power.’

Adrien let his hand fly across the page, uncaring of the words he wrote. He may have been writing about Mikyle’s biggest secret, but he didn’t need to worry about anyone finding his diary. And it wasn’t like it mattered if they did find it– they would be unable to decipher it since he was writing everything down in Korean.

’But the strangest and most unbelievable thing he said was that he inherited something similar to a soul-mate through that power and that I am that supposed mate! It’s unbelievable and exhilarating but most of anything, it’s scary. Is it the soul that’s the mate or is it the body? I can already see you both saying that it’s the soul because it’s literally the other half of the word for soul-mate. But I just can’t help asking myself these pointless questions. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop this small lingering sense of doubt from poking its head in through the happiness I feel every once in a while. Maybe I’m just overthinking things and should just let me lose myself in the feelings?’

Adrien leaned back and looked down at the words before him. It was strange, but he did feel a little better after giving voice to some of the doubts that he had been feeling. But maybe he should actually voice these doubts to Mikyle? He mentioned something about finding Velron’s journal during break. Maybe I really should tell him everything after we’ve had the chance to look at the journal.

Adrien released a sigh as he realized that transmigration is actually harder than what the books from his world made it out to be. Though to be fair, those books were based on fiction while this was reality.

He closed the diary with a heavy thud before placing it back into his bag. After grabbing his sketchbook, he allowed himself to get lost in the time.

"Hmm? Am I allowed to keep this once you are done?"

Adrien jumped at the voice coming from beside him. He hadn’t realized that Mikyle had joined him. "Why would you want to keep a sketch?" Adrien was still feeling strange at the fact that he hadn’t noticed Mikyle’s presence at all.

Milyle tapped his finger against the page. A smirk that was both tantalizing and annoying was displayed on his surprisingly soft lips. "It’s of me, is it not?" His voice was both cocky and arrogant as he spoke with utter confidence.

Ignoring the burning heat that was being lit within him from witnessing this side to Mikyle– the side of Mikyle that he had recently seen while the two of them had been locked away in his room just the day before– Adrien glanced down at the sketch that he had been mindlessly drawing. It was a sketch of a room that Adrien was familiar with– a room he was accustomed to seeing every single day since his arrival at the Academy. It was of his bedroom in the boys’ dormitory. And in the center of the drawing was a bed with very messed up bedsheets. Sprawled out from beneath those sheets was a human figure that was taking on a very masculine shape.

Adrien felt his face burn as he realized what he had been absent-mindedly drawing. He slammed the sketch book shut and shoved into his bag.

"Why are you embarrassed?" Mikyle leaned closer. He was so close that Adrien could feel his breath against his ear, which was making him flush an even deeper shade of red. "I’m flattered that I’m taking up so much of your time."

"I-I didn’t realize that I was even drawing that." Adrien mentally slapped himself for stuttering. But he was baffled by his behavior. He had never been this shy before but for some reason, Mikyle was able to bring out emotions from him that he had never felt before. It was an unsettling feeling, but it wasn’t one that he disliked.

"That’s even better." Mikyle leaned back, that cocky grin and confident attitude becoming even more apparent. "It means I’m always on your mind." His voice sounded soft, and Adrien could hear the yearning in it.

Oh, he had a feeling that he was going to find himself in trouble later that evening. "Do you know what this Fall Festival is that I keep hearing about?" He asked as he clumsily shifted the topic away from dangerous territory.

Mikyle leaned away from him. His eyes glistened with amusement and that pleased smirk stayed plastered on his lips. "The Fall Festival marks the end of the hot months and the beginning of the windy months. The festival is held at the Academy a week before our break for the Harvest season and the Starfall."

From the Orginal’s memories, Adrien was able to figure out that the hot months correlated with Summer and the windy months correlated with Fall from his previous world. The Harvest season, which happened during the windy months, was when it was time to cultivate crops. And the Starfall, which is what Adrien was looking forward the most to, was a reoccurring phenomenon that happened every year where a bunch of shooting stars could be seen flying past their planet in the night sky.
