Chapter 68: Chapter 67: Spicy enough personality!

He Haolin—I killed him!

The moment those words were spoken, Su Aiyu and the other officer didn’t feel the relief of an unexpected breakthrough. Instead, a boundless rage surged within them.

This bastard. He’s not only provoking us, he’s showing utter disregard for the law!

"It really was you!" Su Aiyu bit out through gritted teeth, flames practically shooting from her eyes.

"Now, shouldn’t you bring out your evidence for me to look over? Heh heh," Qin Fan scoffed indifferently. He then lazily picked up the file on the table and began to flip through it.

"Son of a bitch, put that down!" Su Aiyu roared.

He had just provoked them, and now he was casually reading the evidence they had gathered against him.

Is this really how a criminal suspect behaves?

Driven by the fire of justice burning in her chest, she completely forgot the heaven-defying strength Qin Fan had just displayed. She launched a surprise Grappling attack, lunging toward him.

Feisty. I like that.

Su Aiyu took great pride in her skills, which had once earned her third place in combat at the male-dominated police academy. But she had no idea that to Qin Fan, her acclaimed techniques seemed to move in slow motion. Watching her deliberate, cinematic movements, he sneered with disdainful amusement.

"You lecherous scoundrel, you’re courting death!"

Anger, resentment, and a sense of justice intertwined. With a cold expression on her beautiful face, Su Aiyu clawed swiftly toward Qin Fan’s shoulders.

"So many people have said that to me! But in the end, they either run the moment they see me, or they never get to see me again," Qin Fan said with a swaggering laugh, licking his lips.

Facing Su Aiyu’s attack, he twirled like a spinning top, easily evading her. As she stumbled past him, he showed not the slightest hint of chivalry and kicked out at her backside.

Without even looking back, Qin Fan’s hand shot out to press down on the shoulder of the other officer who was trying to stand up, pinning him to his seat. He smirked at the stumbling Su Aiyu and remarked flippantly, "Not bad. A little springy."

"Son of a bitch, I’m going to kill you!"

First came his taunts. Then came the blow to her prized skills. And now, she had been kicked and humiliated. Su Aiyu could no longer control herself. She spun around, screaming hysterically.

Clenching her fists, she pushed off from the ground and leaped into the air, launching herself at Qin Fan once more with formidable momentum.

「Meanwhile, outside the morgue of Jiangzhou People’s Hospital.」

He Zhenjiang leaned against the wall, a cigarette trembling in his hand as he wiped away the tears streaming down his old face.

Suddenly, his well-dressed secretary hurried over. "Boss, our investigation and the video evidence we’ve secured indicate that Qin Fan, the person who had a conflict with Haolin the day before, is likely the murderer. How he did it is still pending interrogation by the relevant departments. He’s already been detained!"

"Qin Fan, Qin Fan, Qin Fan!" He Zhenjiang growled, his teeth clenched as he squeezed his fist so tightly his knuckles turned white. He had only one son, He Haolin. Now, they were separated by life and death. How could he possibly bear such pain?

He sniffled, forcing himself to appear calm. "Let’s go. Come with me."

The secretary nodded and hurried to follow him.

However, just as He Zhenjiang stepped out of the hospital entrance, several vehicles with special license plates sped over, stopping directly in his path. In that instant, He Zhenjiang’s face turned ashen. Under the glaring sun, he nearly fainted.

WHOOSH—

The car doors opened in unison, and several uniformed officers stepped out, quickly surrounding He Zhenjiang. The middle-aged man in the lead produced a badge and held it before He Zhenjiang’s face. "He Zhenjiang," he said sternly, "you’re coming with us."

He Zhenjiang’s knees buckled. Just as he was about to collapse, one of the men beside him caught him.

Without another word, the leader waved his hand. "Take him away," he said coolly.

They came and went in a flash. From the moment He Zhenjiang left the hospital to the moment he was taken away, less than three minutes had passed.

Immediately afterward, news of He Zhenjiang’s arrest spread like wildfire, throwing the whole of Jiangzhou’s upper society into chaos.

First, He Haolin dies. Then, a furious He Zhenjiang immediately applies pressure to point the finger at Qin Fan and Ji Yuchen. Not long after Qin Fan is taken into the interrogation room, He Zhenjiang, still grieving the loss of his son, is arrested himself. This rapid chain of events was enough for the old foxes to sense that something was deeply wrong.

A coincidence? Could it be? No!

The tycoons who had clawed their way to the top through countless trials and tribulations didn’t lack this basic sense of danger. The one who felt it most acutely was the official who had ordered Qin Fan’s arrest. In his office, after hanging up the phone call informing him of He Zhenjiang’s arrest, he panicked. He knew the investigation into He Haolin’s death could go no further.

But who was behind this? Was it Qin Fan’s backer or Ji Yuchen’s? It doesn’t matter who it was!

He had no time to think. In a panic, he bolted from his office without a second thought, sprinting straight for the interrogation room.

Back in the interrogation room, Su Aiyu had finally broken down. After launching a series of futile attacks and being repeatedly thwarted and humiliated, tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.

"What, crying already?" Qin Fan smirked, looking at her pathetic, tear-streaked face. "And you have the nerve to wear that uniform?"

"Qin Fan, no matter what, I will personally see you thrown in prison! No matter what!" Su Aiyu vowed, emphasizing every word. At that moment, her hatred for him was bone-deep.

"I’m afraid your wish won’t come true," Qin Fan said, shaking his head with a smile. Without waiting for her to respond, he continued in a serious tone, "You should focus your attention on the real villains and work to get justice for the innocent. Stop obsessing over He Haolin’s death. I’m sure you’ve gathered plenty of dirt on him over the years, but what happened? Riding his father’s coattails, he lived a life of debauchery. So don’t talk to me about justice. Most of the time, you aren’t worthy of even saying the word."

As he finished speaking, his Divine Sense picked up the sound of someone running toward them. A sly smile touched his lips. "Well, it’s about time I left. Consider today a lesson from me. Heh heh."

A lesson? A teenager is teaching us a lesson? How humiliating! What a slap in the face! And leaving? He thinks he can just leave?

But before Su Aiyu or the other officer could react, the door to the interrogation room was thrown open. The head of the city bureau rushed in, panting heavily.

Ignoring Su Aiyu and her colleague, he forced an awkward smile at Qin Fan. "Student Qin Fan, my apologies. This was all a misunderstanding. You’re free to go."

Qin Fan nodded with an amused smirk. As he was leaving, he paused and turned back to look at Su Aiyu and the other interrogator.

"You’ve all read *Journey to the West*, right?" he said profoundly. "When you have time, analyze the plot. It’s the most classic depiction of life and of the world."
