THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 24: Deception and power
Ryker’s POV
"Isabella had been a major obstacle. Since she arrived, I haven’t had time to visit Kira. The last time I saw her was the day after her fight with Isabella, and I haven’t seen her since."
Not that I and Isabella are a thing, not exactly, she was once betrothed to Me.
Those days, we had a special connection; she was strong, I was strong, and It felt like a perfect match, but all of a sudden, everything began to die down, and there was that one incident that happened that destroyed everything.
Her thirst for more power was insatiable; sometimes, I feared that she might rise against me one day, or maybe when we got married, she might poison me or kill me in my sleep just because she wanted more power.
The kind of power I am talking about here is the power to rule, the one that makes you the most feared creature on earth; I never knew that a lady could thirst for so much power until I met Isabella.
But still, despite her strength, Kira found a way to defeat her.
I haven’t been able to get the picture out of my head. A quick smile Appears on my face anytime I think about that battle.
One night, I couldn’t sleep. I was worried about Kira. Although I had been getting information about her from Emilia during her recent visits, I hadn’t received any updates in the past few days.
There had been so many sick and injured wolves, so Emilia had been busy attending to people, and I couldn’t send Marcus nor any of Kira’s friends who were my guards.
Isabella would become angry if she found out that I was checking on Kira. I didn’t want those two to clash again. Yes, Kira won the first time, but she might not be as lucky the second time.
Knowing who Isabella is, making sure their path never crossed was the best thing to do.
So the plan was to give Isabella my time so she wouldn’t have to go around looking for Kira; I cared about Kira a whole lot, and sometimes I got confused about the way I felt.
Why do I feel this way towards a stranger?
I try to remind myself that Kira was nothing but a guest in our pack and would be allowed to leave whenever she wanted to.
But every single time I find myself thinking about her.
I had to pretend like I didn’t see her the last time she came to the palace, just because Isabella was with me.
Don’t get me wrong, nothing is going on between me and Isabella, but I just couldn’t send her away; Isabella had always had this hold on me, and I find it hard to resist her sometimes.
Many times, I wanted to tell her to her face that I didn’t want her anymore, but I feared that she might hurt Kira, and I didn’t want that; I don’t know what I would do to myself if anything happened to Kira.
So that night, I was outside, and everyone was sleeping, well, except for the wolf guards who keep watch at night.
I picked up small stones, throwing them far away; I paced around, thinking about Kira, and lo and behold, I raised my head to see her standing right in front of me.
Beautiful as ever, her long hair swayed according to the direction of the wind. My heart leapt for joy.
A part of me wanted to run and hug her, but I hesitated. I didn’t want her getting ideas, though deep down, I wanted her to know. I wanted to tell her how crazy I had been feeling ever since I met her, but I couldn’t.
If I do, or even show her the slightest amount of affection, her life would be in danger; over the weeks, many people had shown how they felt about Kira in the pack.
She had enemies, and she wasn’t safe in my pack, so I had to be careful; any wrong move could jeopardise her life.
She greeted me.
Her eyes were mesmerising.
She began to ask about Isabella all of a sudden.
I wondered why she was asking about Isabella; I got a hint of jealousy from her tone.
Honestly, it made me happy to see her jealous.
I smiled.
I told her Isabella was sleeping inside.
Then she began to tell me about Mira.
Mira was a member of my pack. I watched her grow from a child to a full-grown woman.
It was hard to believe that Mira had been training Kira.
Even with evidence, I still found it hard to believe that the Mira I knew was a weakling.
Whenever there was a spar, we paired Kira with one of the weakest omega wolves, but she barely lasted five minutes.
The surprising thing about it all was that she was a beta. It was hard to believe that she could be that weak, but then I had heard tales of weak betas and strong omegas, so I didn’t think too much about it.
Hearing everything Mira had done in the past few days was shocking.
Including the part about planting seeds of doubt.
Before she left she told me to come visit the next day so I could see for myself.
******
I woke up feeling sceptical about the whole thing.
I also was worried about Isabella finding out that I was going to Kira’s. I tried to think of a good excuse, but nothing was coming to my head.
I needed a good one, Isabella was smart, and she would be able to detect instantly that I was lying.
So I waited, seeking the right opportunity, until it finally came.
"Ryker, I would be stepping out for a long walk, I have been hooked up in this house for far too long."
"Oh, that’s good. Would you need me to accompany you?" I asked.
Silently hoping and praying to God that she declines the offer.
"Oh no, there’s no need for that, Ryker; you have pack duties to attend to."
"Okay, if you insist,", I said, smiling.
"See you later," she said waving her hands.
"See you too," I replied, waving back at her.
I looked at the time; it was past the time Kira had asked me to come.
Suddenly, I felt something off, my gut feeling was telling me something I wished wasn’t true.
But I decided not to ignore it.
"Go, find me Emilia and Marcus and bring them to me now," I commanded one of the wolf guards standing by my side.
The guard came back with both of them.
"You sent for us", Marcus said, Bowing his head slightly.
"We are going to Kira’s now."
Emilia’s face lit up.
******
Kira was lying on the ground, lifeless, almost dying; she had been stabbed with a poisoned knife.
Without thinking twice, I charged towards Mira after ordering Emilia and Marcus to take care of her.
"How dare you?" I launched at Mira, but she dodged my attacks.
"Oh dear, you finally caught me" she chuckled.
"How long have you been playing two sides."
"Hmm, let’s see", she said, placing her hands on her chin. "Since I found out that you couldn’t help me, you couldn’t give me what I desire."
"And what is it you desire?" I asked, my hands clenched into fists.
"Power!!!" she laughed ominously.
I charged at her again, and this time she held my hands, flipping me over. I maintained my footing upon landing, but she was too fast; she kicked me very hard.
The impact sent me flying backwards, hitting my back on the wall.
This wasn’t the Mira I used to know; this one was stronger and faster.
The surprising part of it all is the fact that her techniques seemed familiar.
I knew I had seen them before or fought with someone with the same techniques.
The primary goal of the technique was to counter all of my pack’s moves. This infuriated me.
There was only one person, one pack, who had such techniques, and it was Asher’s.
I growled.
I had a mole under my nose all these past years, and I didn’t know about it.
I stood up, shaking off the dust from my body.
"Now, I won’t go easy on you," I said, my voice mixed with a growl.
My eyes turned red.
I took my battle posture.
"That’s more like it," Mira chuckled.
She came at me, scattering dust all over my face. It destabilised me; I couldn’t see for a few seconds, and then I felt a quick, sharp cut on my skin.
It wasn’t deep, just a surface cut, but It wasn’t healing.
"Wolfsbane" I muttered.
"Honestly, I didn’t think she would run to tell you about everything." Mira laughed hysterically.
"I didn’t think that you would also be a two-faced bitch." I shot at her, anger laced in my tone.
I charged toward her, and we began a fistfight. I kept blocking and dodging her moves, and she did the same to mine. But little did she know, I had a secret move for people like her.
