THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 46: The Door I Opened
Kira’s POV
I sat down on the bed in Emilia’s room; I was still recovering, so Ryker refused to let me go back to my home. Besides, I doubt he was going to allow me to go back home, not after what happened in the battleground.
Not after hearing what the elder said about the creature that has been killing moonkeepers in the past.
It was here for me, so there was no way Ryker or anyone in the pack, for that matter, would allow me to go back to my house for fear that the creature might come to take me.
Everyone called me their saviour, but was I really their saviour?
Did I save Ryker and his pack members? Or I just opened the door to a new and very powerful monster.
Everything was now beginning to add up in my head; why the golden-eyed was helping me, training me during the fight, was because this creature had given them instructions to make sure they tested my limit.
Summoning a few moons?
Is that really all I can do?
Was that really my limit?
I wasn’t sure if being able to summon a full moon would suffice.
Pictures of the creature swallowing Asher and the golden-eyed into the darkness flashed through my eyes.
Seeing it alone sent cold shivers down my spine. Goosebumps appeared on my skin.
No doubt I was scared of this entity. This entity is said to have been destroying moon keepers.
The elder’s last words lingered in my head. IT WILL CONTINUE.
He made it sound like I would never be able to defeat it.
Honestly, I didn’t even believe in myself if I could defeat it.
My battle with this entity was inevitable, there’s no avoiding it. But no one knows when it will come for me.
This time, the werewolf faction wasn’t the one in danger; I was the one in danger.
The moon keeper’s job was to ensure the werewolf’s faction was saved; even the battle we had could have been avoided if only Asher wasn’t that stubborn; well, at least now we knew that he wasn’t acting on his own accord.
He was being controlled.
Mira!
Where could she be? She wasn’t among the warriors.
Could she be plotting a revenge?
Or could it be that the entity got to her first?
So many questions were etched in my mind, but I had the answers to none of them.
And then the voice that spoke to me out in the dark the previous night.
What it said about me opening the door, and now he was coming for what was rightfully his.
What exactly could be his?
How did I even open the door?
I need to go back to the elders and ask them more questions. I thought.
Something wasn’t adding up.
"Hey, you up?"
I looked ahead to see Ryker standing by the door.
He had entered the room without me knowing.
"I am so sorry", I apologised "How long have you been standing there for?"
"Let’s say about twenty minutes," he said, smiling
"Oh my gosh, for that long?"
"It’s fine, it’s nothing. Besides, I enjoyed staring at your beautiful face."
His comment left me speechless for a bit.
"How are the injured werewolves are they responding to treatment?" I asked, trying to change the line of discussion.
I wasn’t sure what he would have said after that, though, but I knew that if I let the conversation continue at that angle, he might end up saying something I wasn’t ready for at the moment.
I could have misunderstood, though, but regardless, I didn’t want to take chances.
Everything in my head at the moment was how to save myself from that evil entity.
I know you would wonder why I didn’t use the word DEFEAT.
Sigh.
Hmm, well, that’s because I didn’t believe I could defeat that monster; all I just wanted to do was to find a way to save myself.
But first I needed to know what it meant when it said I opened the door.
How?
"Emilia is good at her job, so they all are responding to treatment."
"Oh, that’s good; I am glad to hear that."
There was a brief and awkward silence in the room for about thirty minutes and I was ready to leave it like that until Ryker broke the silence.
"What’s happening, Kira?"
"Uhm?"
"You’ve been distant since we visited the elders; you’ve been kinda distant."
"Come on Ryker, you know it’s because I am still recovering."
"Are you? You look fine to me physically," he paused, leaning closer, "only that I don’t think you are fine emotionally and mentally."
I scoffed.
He was right I was purposely drifting away from him.
That was the only way I could think of to make sure he wasn’t included in this; I knew Ryker, I knew he would want to help out, battle with this entity with me, head-on, but I couldn’t allow that.
This entity wasn’t like Asher or any random werewolf alpha he had fought. This was an empty, deep-clothed ancient dark magic that, just by the flick of his, could kill a man, a werewolf and a vampire, including me.
I wasn’t going to watch Ryker die, so I decided that I was going to find a way to push him out just to save his life.
I had made up my mind that whatever this entity was, I would go up against it all alone, it was me it wanted, not Ryker, not the werewolf fraction, but me.
"I am fine Ryker." I lied
"Spare me the pretence Kira; I know you well enough to be able to tell if you are lying to me or not."
I bit my lips.
There’s no way I can avoid him. I heaved a deep sigh.
"Honestly, Ryker, I am worried; I am scared of this... this... entity."
"We would face it together." He blurted
Immediately, I gave him a non-approval look, followed by a shaking of my head and a firm No reply.
"Kira, I think I should tell you this now."
My eyes rolled.
What was he about to tell me? Was this concerning the feeling I felt in his heart when I was linked to him?
If it was, then this was bad timing.
"Kira, from the first time I set my eyes on you I-"
"No, Ryker please just stop." I stood up and moved away from him.
"Kira!"
"No Ryker, this is not the time to do this, there’s a creature after my life, I don’t know when he’s going to come for it, it might be now or tomorrow-"
"Shhh" he placed his index finger on my lips.
I swallowed hard.
"I told you, we would face it together."
"No, Ryker, that’s what I don’t want. I don’t want you to face it with me. Didn’t you hear what the elder said? I don’t want to lose you."
"You won’t lose me, Kira." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"No, Ryker, my mind is made up; no one from this pack is going to join me in this fight, it’s my fight, it’s me it wants, and it’s only fair that I face it alone."
"You think I would let you do that after you almost died a few days ago trying to make sure that we survive?"
"That’s what a moonkeeper is meant to do."
"Then I choose to do this with you."
I paced around Emilia’s room for a few seconds.
"No, Ryker I do this alone." I said firmly, walking towards the door.
"I love you, Kira, I do; from the very first time you came to this pack, I have always loved you."
The words caused pain in my heart.
I would probably die soon enough, and he was standing in the room confessing his life to a walking corpse.
Without looking back I stormed out of the room, jamming the door behind me.
****
"Who is it?"
"It’s me, Kira."
"Oh, the moon keeper, please, you can come in."
Immediately I left Emilia’s room, I went straight to the elder house; I needed to ask him about what the entity meant when he told me I opened the door.
"What brings you here, my child?"
I cleared my throat, holding back the tears that were threatening to drop "A few nights ago, it spoke to me."
"What spoke to you?" The elder asked seeming confused.
"The dark entity" I replied.
"How’s that possible."
"I don’t know, but I think somehow, after seeing him that day we got connected in a way. I can hear him when he speaks to me."
"Is he saying anything to you now?"
"No its not."
"Then what did it say to you that night."
"It said that I had opened the door for him so now he was coming to take what rightfully belongs to him."
Immediately after I said this, the elder’s expression changed drastically.
"You are sure you heard him say that?"
I nodded.
He took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly.
"I never thought it was true." He said
"What was true?"
"Many years ago there was a legend, a story that broke out" he paused.
Kpum, kpum, kpum.
The sound came from the door.
Someone was at the door.
I could guess who it was already, but I hoped he wasn’t.
"The door is opened." The elder yelled from where he sat.
The door opened, I turned to see who it was, and it was none other than him, Ryker.
"Why are you here?"
"I told you before, If you are going to face him, we face him together."
