THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 73: The Light after the Darkness
Kira’s POV
We had finally defeated this creature.
I heaved a deep sigh of relief as I saw it disintegrate into nothing.
Ryker sighed.
"Now we have to find the others," I said.
"Too bad you disintegrated him before we could get the chance of asking him where the others were," Ryker teased, pointing to the ash remains of the creature.
"We will find them either way," I said, smiling.
"I just hope they are alive."
"They will be alive, just that they might just be stuck in a nightmare."
"Then we have to find them as soon as possible," Ryker urged. We began to navigate our way out of the cave space through the opening that the creature had made on the wall with my body.
Ryker and I went to assist Emilia in standing up.
"Can you walk?" I asked her, placing my hands on her legs to feel them.
"I guess, but maybe with a little support."
"You wouldn’t be needing that," I said. I closed my eyes and then began to channel healing magic from within me, and in no time, she was healed.
"Thanks, Kira."
"You don’t have to thank me for doing my job."
We both smiled at each other.
"Okay, enough of this friendship dilemma, it’s making me sick, uhhh," Ryker said, crouching and holding his stomach in a way that suggested he was really sick.
We knew he was just playing around, so we both burst out laughing.
"Let’s go get the others."
We passed through the opening and began to head down south of the cave. That was where my instincts told us to pass through, and I did pass through the place.
Surprisingly, the path down was quiet. I didn’t feel any strange energy around; nothing was lurking around, or so I thought.
Maybe their energy isn’t strong enough for me to be able to detect them. I soon got the thought out of my mind as I couldn’t afford to lose focus.
We got to a place that looked similar to the place that we had just come from—yes, the cave space we had been stuck in. For a moment, I thought we had just gone around in circles until Ryker said he could hear a heartbeat.
"I can hear heartbeats, multiple heartbeats. The link between me and them is stronger here."
"Does that mean—"
"Yes, they are alive, and we are close to them here," he interrupted.
I heaved a deep sigh of relief, wiping the trickle of sweat that had formed on my forehead.
We continued down the path until we got to a space where everything seemed destroyed and distorted.
"What happened here?"
"I guess we were not the only ones who had an enemy."
The whole space was filled with dead creatures and debris from the cave—rocks and sand. Cracks on the wall, creature-shaped cracks, and human-like cracks.
"They are here, I can feel them," Ryker announced.
"Then let’s keep moving until we find them."
"Yes, your majesty," he teased, a wide grin appearing at the corner of his lips.
As we went closer into the space, I still couldn’t believe that they were attacked by such an amount of creatures. Despite the fact that these creatures were dead, I could still feel the energy from their dead bodies. If there was one thing I would thank the goddess for in that matter, it was the fact that Isabella was with them.
And also, the creatures weren’t as strong as the ones that Ryker and I faced.
"I am getting exhausted," Emilia announced.
I wasn’t surprised she was getting exhausted; despite my healing, she would still need to rest to be able to regain her full strength.
I have to find a way to get out of here.
We’ve spent too much time in the cave space. Ryker’s pack members have been left without an alpha for too long, and we didn’t know what might be going on with them.
Realizing this, I became worried about the people left behind, worried that the dark entity might have gotten a hold of them.
"Emilia, you would have to try to move on. We can’t afford to lose you again just like the last time when we left you here."
"Don’t worry, Kira. I will give her support," Ryker went closer to her, placing one of her arms around his shoulder and using his left hand to support her.
Immediately, I rushed back to where they stood and placed her other arm around my shoulder.
"You know I am okay doing this alone," Ryker blurted out.
"I know you are, but we need to move faster. I can’t afford to let you slow us down," I smiled.
We kept on going until we finally saw them.
Isabella, Marcel, and Clara.
They were alive. Sitting on a big rock, but they all had a kind of expression on their faces.
Saddened.
They looked like they had just been told that their full generation had died and they were the last of the kinsmen.
They hadn’t seen us.
We saw them first.
"Isabella!" I called out to her.
Honestly, among all three of them, I still couldn’t understand why I called the name of someone who used to be my sworn enemy a few months ago.
Her eyes lit up, a wide smile took over the saddened expression on her face. And then I saw her heave a sigh of relief.
I thought I had seen it wrong, but her behavior and facial expression suggested that she was glad I was still alive.
Could she really be a changed person now?
"Kira!" Marcel called out my name.
He jumped down from the rock and rushed over to where we stood. He turned to Ryker, made a bow, before turning to me and doing the same.
"We thought you had—"
"I told you that they were going to be fine, didn’t I? Besides, they’ve got the moonkeeper with them," Isabella interrupted, smiling.
"Stop flattering me, Isabella."
"It’s not flattery, Kira. You are a badass for a little omega wolf that you are."
Everyone laughed.
"So what happened with you guys?" I asked.
"It’s a long story," Marcel replied.
"A long story?" I exhaled. "We don’t have the time for that now. We’ve already spent too much time down here."
"Yes, we have," Marcel replied.
"Okay, but give me a summary of it all. Tell me what happened," I insisted.
"The summary of it all was that we all were trapped in a nightmare of our own. The creature was going to kill us and make us lost in abyss by trapping us in our nightmares."
My ears stood up, my eyes widened. "You all also experienced nightmares?"
"Yes, we did," they chorused.
"We did also."
"How did you get out of yours?" Ryker asked.
"I am not sure, but while I was stuck, trying to find a way out, all of a sudden I just woke up here. It was as if something had pulled me out of it."
I asked Isabella and Clara, and they both said the same thing Marcel said.
"Another strange thing is that we also woke up at the same time," Clara added.
I began to think back. I know I had saved Ryker personally, but how did Isabella, Marcel, and Clara get out?
My thinking was cut short when Ryker tapped me on my shoulder.
"I think when you disintegrated that thing back at the cave space we were in, it freed them too. You know it said it was the cause of all our nightmares, so I think the moment he died, all the nightmares disappeared."
"And that’s it, our precious moonkeeper saves the day again," Isabella said, making a slight bow.
I chuckled.
"So what’s next?" Clara asked, folding her arms.
"We find a way back to the surface," I replied almost immediately.
"Can you tell where we fell from?" Isabella asked.
"No, I can’t. Besides, everywhere seems to have been sealed," I replied.
"Then all we need is just to find another way," Ryker suggested.
"We don’t know a thing about this place. For all we know, a creature could be lurking around somewhere in the dark waiting for us to make the right move," Emilia said.
"Well, thank God we have the moonkeeper to illuminate our path, right?" Isabella blurted out.
I took in a deep breath. "Right," I replied.
"Could you just blast through the surface?" Clara suggested.
Honestly, it never crossed my mind that I could try blasting the surface with my powers.
"We can’t just blast through the surface when we aren’t sure what’s waiting for us at the other side," Emilia said.
"I would say it’s worth taking the risk," Isabella said.
Ryker and Marcel were the only ones who hadn’t said anything about it.
The cave space was quiet for a while as every one of us waited for the only men in our midst to make their suggestions.
"If we blast through the surface, we might encounter those undead creatures that got us stuck in here," Marcel placed his hands on his jaw as he continued, "For all we know, they might be up there waiting for us to show up so they could give us the finishing blow." He paused, took in a deep breath. "If we consider all this, then blasting through the surface isn’t a good idea."
Clara, Emilia, and Isabella made dissatisfied grumbles and grunts, but Marcel wasn’t done.
"However, that’s the best choice we have. Going through this cave is uncertain—we might just end up going round in circles, so I say we blast through the surface."
And that was the decision we made.
What awaits us at the other side, we didn’t know. If I could even blast through the surface was uncertain either.
