The Royal Mark-Chapter 380: Stubborn King
Chris woke up early in the morning after Neia and Stefan’s wedding. He decided to have breakfast with Hoven in the back garden since the dining hall was not useable at the moment.
"I can’t believe those vampires trash both the dining hall and the great hall at the same time. Is that how they party?" Hoven asked in amusement as he shook his head.
Chris chuckled a little, "I guess they are more rowdy than us in some ways. Besides, it’s been hundreds of years since they last attended a royal wedding so maybe that’s why they got a little too excited last night."
Their conversation was interrupted upon the arrival of someone who put a smile on both their faces.
"Your Majesty... Brother-in-law..." Baahu bowed with a smile on his face.
"You are late but you still have the guts to smile at us huh? Where’s the brat?" Hoven quipped.
Baahu’s smile widened, it was as if he couldn’t contain his happiness. "I want to apologize to both of you and later I will apologize to King Stefan and to the new Queen of Vrenada, Queen Neia.
We did arrive yesterday, but since Lexi is not feeling well and was not fit to travel, we decided to stay in one of the inns near the port."
Hoven frowned and stood up. "Not feeling well? That’s not very much like her, werewolves do not get sick often. Did she eat something in Zemaria for her to get sick?" Hoven asked in worry.
Baahu covered his mouth, preventing himself from laughing. He was so overjoyed and excited that he didn’t know how to tell them the good news.
Chris smiled and murmured, only for Hoven to hear, "I know that look," before taking a sip of his tea.
Hoven placed both his hands on his waist, his patience was running low. He was worried for his sister but her husband kept smiling in front of them."So? Where is my sister?"
"Uhm... She’s in one of the guest rooms. I looked for you after she settled in. She’s having morning sickness," Baahu said.
Hoven frowned more as he stared at Baahu, totally clueless of what he just said. "What do you mean? She only gets sick in the morning?"
"That’s what they call it. But she gets it the whole day and only feels better and more energetic at night, the healer also said that’s normal. " Baahu explained.
"What? How did it become normal? What’s her illness called and how did she acquire it?" Hoven questioned Baahu further raising his voice.
Chris laughed hard, too hard that he coughed.
Baahu pressed his lips together for he wanted to laugh too at how clueless his brother-in-law was. "Lexi is not sick, she’s pregnant."
"Pregnant? Where did she get that– wait... Did you say my sister is pregnant?" Hoven asked in astonishment.
"Yes. You are going to be an uncle," Baahu shyly answered while scratching the back of his head.
Hoven stood frozen for a moment before holding his head with both hands as if he were having a headache.
"Oh my god! I am going to be an uncle! I need to see Lexi!" he said before swiftly turning around, and heading to Lexi’s room.
"Hey! Wait for me, I want to congratulate her as well," Chris uttered but it was too late since Hoven used his werewolf speed to head to his sister’s room.
Chris didn’t feel right when he suddenly stood up. He staggered back as his vision turned black and Baahu hastily pulled his arm, preventing him from completely falling to the marble floor.
"Your Majesty! King Christopher! Wake up!" Baahu shrieked at the conscious werewolf King in his arms. He shook him hard and tried to wake him up several times but it was not effective.
Baahu looked around and saw two servants passing by with piles of linens in their arms. "Hey! You two, I need help! The King of Arcanis collapsed!"
The two servants quickly run to his aid. They put the linens on the chairs and one of them helped Baahu in carrying Chris, while the other one ran inside to call the healer.
When they were able to place Chris on his bed, Baahu ordered the servant, "Call King Stefan and Queen Neia. After that, go to my wife, Lady Alexandra Velusi, the Lord High Steward of Arcanis should be with her, Alpha Hoven Haraldsen. Inform him of what happened. Hurry!"
Since the servant is a vampire, it didn’t take long before he was able to call the people that Baahu mentioned.
Hoven, Lexi, Neia, and Stefan rushed to Chris’ side with worry drawn on their faces. Lexi, despite her own condition, looked pale with concern. As they entered the room, they saw Chris lying on the bed, his breathing shallow. Baahu stood by his side, eyes filled with anxiety.
"What’s happened?" Neia asked, her voice trembling slightly as she approached the bed.
Baahu explained the situation as best as he could, "He just collapsed, Your Majesty. One moment he was laughing, and the next he fainted."
The healer arrived moments later, carrying a bag of healing supplies. He swiftly assessed Chris, checking his pulse, his breathing, and his eyes. The room was silent, there was tension in the air.
After what felt like an eternity, the healer sighed and stood up, shaking his head. "There’s nothing I can do here. His condition is beyond my expertise."
Stefan frowned deeply. "What do you mean? You must do something!"
The healer shook his head again. "I’m sorry, but this is not an ordinary ailment. His life force seems to be draining away, and I cannot determine the cause."
Neia grasped Stefan’s arm and said, "No one can heal my brother, Stefan. We are expecting this. Perhaps he was only waiting for me to walk down the aisle before he finally said goodbye."
Stefan turned to Hoven, who was pacing anxiously. "You need to bring Chris home, back to Arcanis. There’s someone there who might be able to help."
Hoven stopped and looked at Stefan, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Who? Who can help him?"
"Elandir," Stefan replied. "He’s an ancient elf with knowledge of many forgotten arts. If anyone can save Chris, it’s him."
Lexi, still holding her brother’s hand, nodded. "Then we must hurry. We cannot afford to waste any time."
"I can’t," Hoven said, "Chris had already gone inside the Tree of Life and the goddess said that he is really dying. So, King Elandir won’t be able to do anything. Christopher also told me not to bother him until his funeral takes place."
"That’s bullshit! Well, if you promised to do that to him, then I will be the one to tell Elandir. I didn’t promise anything to your stubborn King except the promise I made for his sister. So stay here while I call for Elandir," Stefan said in anger before walking out of the room.
