The Royal Mark-Chapter 385: In Sync
Elandir’s parents were almost done with breakfast when he arrived in the dining hall. He woke up late that morning because he stayed up until after midnight thinking of Marina, Chris, and his life.
He found his parents laughing and full of life and energy feeding each other lovingly at the dining table while he was wearing a long face and there were dark circles under his eyes.
He slumped on the dining chair catching his parent’s attention.
"Are you feeling sick, Son? Is the council tiring you too much with your transition?" Tyrion asked.
"No, Father. I am not sick and the council is not tiring me out. I couldn’t sleep last night and slept in the morning," Elandir said before putting some food on his plate.
"What’s keeping you up all night?" Ydril questioned with worry.
"My life choices... But then, I remember I have no choice in life. I was born with a predetermined purpose and task for the kingdom. My only choice was when to end this life, so, I gave to the goddess in the Tree of Life so Christopher could have a choice in his..." Elandir responded casually before swallowing his food.
"You did what?!" Tyrion exclaimed and stood up in astonishment and shock. His son does not joke about such things and if he says that he gave up his life then it means he really did it.
"Oh dear," Ydril uttered and gently pulled Tyrion’s arm urging him to sit. "Son, can you explain to your father and I, what do you mean by what you said?"
Elandir told them what happened in Tree of Life and Tyrion was furious.
"Get out! Get out of my sight right now!" Tyrion said.
Elandir didn’t move an inch and continued eating his breakfast. After swallowing his food and taking a sip from his cup of tea he said, "But Father, are you forgetting I am the King now? You can order me to get out of my own dining hall..."
Tyrion’s face turned beet red in anger but Ydril stayed calm. Ever since Marina went away, Elandir blamed them and kept his rude attitude towards them consistent.
She can’t blame his son though. They both know how much Elandir loved Marina but if only they knew what they know now back then, they would’ve allowed Marina to use the portal.
Ydril stood up and gently grabbed Tyrion’s arms to pull him away from the dining hall. "It’s alright dear, we are already done with breakfast. Right, Tyrion? We will go to our chamber now."
Tyrion cannot do anything for Elandir is right. He did pass over the crown already and he no longer holds the power to demand anything even from his own son. He picked up the table napkin from his lap and forcefully threw it on the table before walking away.
Elandir continued eating with a somber face alone in the dining hall.
’I wonder how many years do I have left? I should start looking for a Queen so I could produce an heir right away and perhaps I could follow Marina in Novus once I pass my crown to my child.
At least I will be able to be with her before I die... If she would still accept me. But seeing her from afar is enough for me. I hope she’s doing alright there,’ Elandir thought as he left the dining hall.
He was on his way to the stairs when servants started passing beside him climbing up the stairs. He watched them run and noticed some healers heading in the same direction.
"Hey, wait, stop! What is going on? Where is everyone going?" Elandir asked one of the servants.
"Your Majesty," the servant greeted after bowing. "Queen Ydril, I mean your mother fainted. Your father called for a healer and we are on our way to their chamber." The servant bowed before leaving.
Elandir got frightened since it had been a long time since the last time his mother got sick. Like the others, he ran towards his parent’s room and was flabbergasted by what he saw.
His mother was sitting on the edge of the bed drinking fresh fruit juice while his father was laughing and chatting casually with the royal healer.
"What is going on here?" Elandir asked.
"Oh! Good timing, we were about to call you," Tyrion said and dismissed everyone in the room. He pulled a chair and made it face the bed where Ydril was sitting and gestured for Elandir to sit there.
"Mother, are you alright? You look pale, you weren’t like that earlier while having breakfast. Are you sick?" Elandir worriedly asked.
To his surprise, his mother looked at his father and both giggled together like teenagers before turning back to him.
"I am not sick, Son. It’s the opposite. We were planning to tell you once it’s already physically noticeable but then you are here now," Ydril replied.
"Just tell me what it is. You’re killing me with suspense!"
"Your mother is pregnant! You will have a brother or a sister soon!" Tyrion announced excitedly.
Elandir furrowed his eyebrows utterly confused. "B-But Mother can no longer give birth because of what happened before right? How is this possible? Are you even sure about it?"
"Yes, even Hera confirmed it. Nathaniel told her to look after me because of the gift that he had given us for taking care of his family. We didn’t understand at first but it was Hera who told us the good news after I fainted when we were having tea.
She said that Nathan used his last bit of holy power before leaving to heal me so I could bear children again. But it turns out that he is not only gifting us, this is his gift for you as well, Son," Tyrion explained.
Elandir got more confused and asked, "My sibling is a gift for me? I’m too old to play with him or her, my sibling could be my son or daughter already."
"Exactly! We are freeing you from the responsibility of ruling our kingdom, Elandir. But we ask you one last favor. Wait for your sibling to be born so you can pass the crown to him or her. I will be his or her regent until your sibling is ready.
After that, you are free, my son. Go and find Marina, be with her, and pursue your happiness," Tyrion smiled with teary eyes.
Elandir stared at his parents speechless. His mind stopped functioning and his whole body became numb, he was frozen in his seat. He could not believe what he just heard and he was not even sure if it was his reality or if he was only dreaming.
But one thing is for sure, everything that he heard was music to his ears. His heart was filled with joy and he could not wait for his mind, body, and heart to be in sync once more.
