The Royal Mark-Chapter 389: A Memory
After breakfast Ambros and Jai load Elsa and the kid’s luggage into Ambros’ SUV. He threw the keys to Elsa as soon as she came near.
"Woah! A warning would be much appreciated! It almost hit my face," Elsa complained and returned the keys to her dad.
But Ambros raised both her arms and said, "Nope, I am not driving because you are. I am old and I’ll be driving back so it’s your turn to drive."
Elsa sighed and rolled her eyes, "Dad, you know I can’t drive. Here, take it."
"Of course, you can drive. You just don’t want to. Come on, honey. It’s been five years and it was not your fault."
"I know, Dad. But because of that, I lost my memory, and I also put my children’s lives at risk. It’s my fault that they will grow up without a father."
"That’s not true, dear. It’s an accident, it’s not your fault that you lost your memory because of that."
"Hmm, perhaps you’re right. Maybe I should stop blaming myself and start blaming their father for not looking for me. Maybe I ran away from him because he’s a bad person. I can’t even remember at least that."
"We’ve talked about this. I don’t know where you go during those two years. Maybe you went far away and never told the guy anything about me, your hometown, and even yourself. Maybe he’s looking for you and can’t find you since he doesn’t know anything about you."
Elsa sighed once again, "Whatever, I’m still not driving."
Ambros swiftly ran to the passenger’s seat and yelled, "Finders keepers! I got in first, so you drive!"
Elsa growled in annoyance and walked to the driver’s seat. She was about to enter the car but Marina stopped her.
"Wait, Elsa! I will not go with you anymore. I got a call from my lawyer and there’s a problem with the contract that I was supposed to sign on Monday. So we need to go over it and make some adjustments in the terms. I got to go, I will ask Jai to drive me to the law firm."
"Alright, take care of yourself, come by the house when you’re done."
The two cars went their separate ways. Elsa’s hands were sweating as she held on to the steering wheel as she kept her eyes on the road.
"Honey, drive a little faster, or we might arrive in the city tomorrow instead of today," Ambros said.
"You wanted me to drive, right? So bear with it and don’t talk to me you are distracting me."
When they reached the national forest road, their little puppy started to get fuzzy. Rocco could not hold him still anymore and he kept jumping and scratching at the window.
"Yakobo, stay still, you might fall and hit your head," Rocco ordered the pup but it didn’t work. Instead, the little pup started howling.
"Oh dear, I think your puppy needs to go potty," Ambros said.
"Alright, I will stop at a good spot." Elsa carefully searched for a spot where they could park for a while so Yakobo could do his business.
After parking on the side of the road, she took the puppy out since she wanted to get some air as well. Staying in the driver’s seat almost made her faint but she agreed that her father was right. It has been five years since she had that accident that caused her to lose her memories, and it’s about time to let herself overcome her trauma from it.
It didn’t take long for Yakobo to relieve himself, so Elsa carried him as they headed back to the car. But as another car passed by the road, Elsa suddenly felt dizzy as a piece of her memory suddenly flashed before her.
A wounded naked man was in front of her and she was the one that hit him. She lost her balance and slumped to the ground while still protecting Yakobo in her arms.
Ambros saw her fall to her knees and quickly ran out of the car to help her. "Goodness, what happened?"
"I’m okay, I just got dizzy, Dad. I think I still have a hangover from last night," Elsa said.
"Come on, let’s get you in the car. I’ll drive."
Elsa stayed quiet throughout their trip, she couldn’t seem to erase from her mind the bloody man that she saw. Her heart skipped a beat when that scene flashed in her mind and she couldn’t understand why.
They arrived in the afternoon at the house Ambros had purchased for them, located in one of the city’s exclusive gated communities, where Marina also resides. Only the wealthy can afford properties there, and buying a lot is highly selective.
However, as a renowned doctor and hospital owner, Ambros easily secured approval to buy a five-bedroom house for his daughter and grandchildren.
"Dad, could you stay here tonight, and go back tomorrow?" Elsa requested with puppy eyes, hoping that his workaholic father would agree.
"Sorry dear, you know I can’t. I have to run the hospital during weekdays, but I promise I will be back this weekend."
"Alright... But before you go, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure honey, what is it?"
"Did I kill someone?" she asked with trembling hands.
"What? What are you talking about?" Ambros frowned. Of course, her daughter had killed many during her stay in Vectus but he is not sure if that’s what she meant. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Earlier, when I got dizzy, I-I think a memory came back to me. I was on the road similar to where we were at earlier. On the ground was a wounded man, he was covered in blood, and it was me who hit him. So, did that happen to me?"
There was a fight inside of Ambros. He doesn’t know if he will admit it or not. She lost her memories starting from that point. ’Is her memories coming back?’ he asked himself.
"Mom! Yakobo peed on the floor!" Rocco yelled from the other room making Elsa and Ambros chuckle.
"Mommy! Mommy! We’re hungry!" the twins called, making Ambros release a sigh of relief.
Elsa quickly turned around and said, "Right, I almost forgot, it’s snack time! Wait for me in the kitchen. I’ll just see Grandpa off." She then linked her arm with Ambros, completely forgetting her question.
"No need to see me off. We’ll see each other this weekend. Go and tend to your kids," Ambros said. Elsa nodded, kissed him on the cheek, and went back inside.
Ambros glanced at Elsa one last time before getting into his car. ’Whatever is coming, I hope it doesn’t hurt her. Oh please, God. I don’t want to see my daughter crying and in pain again...’
