Chapter 701: You Can’t Have My Daughter.

"That is the best news I’ve heard in years." The powerful elf smiled like a mischievous girl at a gala.

"What happened at your border?" the elf queen asked. The question seemed more directed toward Evrin than him, though.

Evrin said, "Lord Thorneborn is dead. The statue is made on his grave by our Keeper himself. Lord BondMaster is also a prisoner at Sanctuary now."

"Making the whole of Faerunia your enemy in just one day—is that really how you want to start?" the powerful elf asked.

"They hurt my people. They were the enemy way before I came back," Damian replied.

"Land-breaker won’t save you from Sea Snake, kid. Think twice before you do something irreversible. My family is part of your little project now. They shall not be harmed—no matter what."

Damian finally figured out who she was. There was only one person Vidalia would stare at like that without any care—her mother. The old queen of Eldoris.

"I’m not reckless enough to start a fight I have no chance of winning. If I can’t protect my home from bullies like Sea Snake, I should be called Giver instead of Keeper."

That made some of them chuckle, lightening the mood slightly. Still, the smile on Vidalia’s mother’s face was as fake as they came. After a few seconds of awkward silence, she suddenly said—her tone the complete opposite of her smiling face—

"You can’t have my daughter."

"Mother!" Vidalia shouted, exasperated by the whole situation.

The fuck was that? Why did they think he and Vidalia were a thing? Well.. she was indeed nice, and it would be a lie if he said he hadn’t had impure thoughts about the long-legged beauty—but that was beside the point!

After the initial formal welcome, they moved away from the throne room to chat casually. Only the queen, Evrin, and Vidalia’s cousin had joined him, though—who knew what was going on between Vidalia and her mother at the moment?

They talked about the situation going on in the world right now, trying to figure out each other’s thoughts on various issues. The queen didn’t mention it, but when Evrin brought up that Damian would honor the mana contract Einar had signed with Eldoris for non-aggression for a hundred years, there was indeed a small flicker of relief on her beautiful, shapely face.

Another thing the elf queen was relieved to hear was that the new Keeper had no desire to conquer any more land. The Lord of Fayenjin City—Goldfist—had joined Eldoris’s side after the Faerunian aggression became evident. He was Sanctuary’s neighbor on the Eldoris side and had supported Einar and others a lot. The guy cared more about Sanctuary than Eldoris, in short—and they were worried Damian would snatch the capable Transcendent from right under their noses, especially when the guy would be more than willing to join the rising Sanctuary under the new Keeper’s rule.

The pugilist lord had made a good impression on Damian when he’d visited the guy’s palace before.

But Damian had enough Transcendents to level the whole continent—he didn’t need any more. Plus, snatching the guy would only worsen things between Sanctuary and Eldoris. After the support they had given Einar and Evrin in their time of need, Damian would never do something that unreasonable. He reassured the elf queen that he was going to focus on improving Sanctuary’s land and the lives of its people instead of adding more to it.

Actually, he wanted to do more than that. So after a bit of internal debate, he asked the queen,

"More than that—I’d like to make things better with my neighbors. Would you be open to the idea of having a public waygate connecting mainland Eldoris to mainland and border Sanctuary? It’s up to you how you want to manage the access, as long as my people can come freely to trade and stuff.."

Not only Evrin, but the queen and the spellsword elf—masters at managing their facial expressions—had their eyes wide open, as if they had just heard ghosts existed for real. But in a second, the queen controlled herself by turning her face and regaining her composure.

"Lord Goldfist once mentioned such a possibility, but I only thought of it as a wishful fantasy of his. You would share one of the most prized spells we have—for common people? Do you not fear we will launch an attack using it?" she asked.

"I have measures to make it safe—otherwise I wouldn’t propose it. I’ll do it for all regions of Sanctuary for ease of transportation. Thought one for your people wouldn’t make much of a difference, seeing how much you’ve helped Sanctuary over the years," Damian said—and saw as the expressions on both Evrin and the queen’s face shifted from neutral to genuine emotion.

"I appreciate the thought. Please let me discuss this with my officials first," the queen replied, using much more humble words and tone than Damian had expected from her.

"Of course. It’s not the focus right now—we have things to do."

"Right."

After some twenty minutes, they were ready to leave. The alliance against the demons had asked the elf queen to make use of her Waygate Dungeon Relic, which they had used many times on the battlefield to launch ambushes—for the emergency meetings of the alliance. When the enemy was demons, Eldoris could not refuse the request. Other kingdoms also had ways to travel fast or occasionally target people, but Eldoris’s was the most famous and noticeable one, since Ashenvale had it first and their people knew about it.

Damian asked Evrin to stay in Eldoris. It wasn’t a hundred percent safe trip—though chances were low, the possibility of using hands instead of words could arise at any minute. Especially if the Faerunians had already heard the recent news about their people.

The elf queen didn’t join him either, for the same concern. Vidalia and her mother did, though. The three of them used the dungeon relic and targeted Tristan—the guy was still one of the soul targets for the tool. The other was the elf queen, Damian suspected, but it wasn’t confirmed. The Faerunians used their fast travel method from there to reach the border of Dawnstar and the Empire, where the fight against the demons was ongoing.
