Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Who Allowed You to Touch My Things

Mu Shuoqian was handling official business in his study, with the keyboard clattering loudly. Behind him, the black and white floor-length curtains tightly blocked the moonlight from the windows.

A faint knock on the door reached his ears, soft as if a small cat was scratching at the door.

He slightly furrowed his brows, glancing briefly before continuing with his work.

"Come in."

After about half a minute of pause, there was no movement outside the door, nor did anyone push it open. It was only him and Gu Qili at home; who else could have been knocking if not her?

He ignored it, continuing to type on his keyboard.

Some time later, the knocking sound resumed, slightly stronger this time as if worried he hadn’t heard, like a small dog lifting its paws scratching at the door.

"Come in."

Still, no one entered, and the doorway remained silent.

Mu Shuoqian finally could not suppress his urge, stood up, and walked to the door. He opened it to find the corridor empty, as if a ghost had indeed been knocking.

He looked down and saw a white tray on the carpet in front of his toes, carrying two glass cups, one filled with warm water, and the other with prepared stomach medicine.

Gu Qili was sneakily peeping around the corner of the corridor. She had noticed the unopened pack of medicine he brought from the hospital still on the coffee table, and he was not made of steel. If sick, medicine was necessary; besides, his complexion suggested he was quite ill.

Although she had prepared the medicine, she still worried about being outright rejected by him with cold words. She did have some dignity after all; even if ignored, she didn’t want it to look too ugly, thus choosing this subtle method.

Mu Shuoqian seemed to glance in her direction; under the light, his dark eyes particularly bright.

Gu Qili quickly drew her head back, patting her chest.

By the time she peeped out again, he had vanished from the corridor, and along with him, the tray had also disappeared.

She inwardly rejoiced that he hadn’t flung the tray at her; such was within his capabilities.

Gu Qili returned to her room to study, her heart still pounding furiously, and it took a good while sitting down to calm herself. She thought she had grown a thick skin in front of him, but in reality, she still feared rejection.

Though their relationship was merely contractual, having spent so much time with him, she inexplicably started harboring some peculiar feelings, indescribable as she had never experienced them before.

However, she quickly withdrew her feelings, this marriage was only meant to last for a brief two years. After two years, once they accomplished their respective goals, they could part ways without further ties.

Her fingers traced across the book, stopping at an unfamiliar word. She quickly reached into her bag for a dictionary, only to find she hadn’t brought it.

The article seemed to mock her, particularly difficult and filled with unfamiliar words continuously appearing. Without understanding these words, she couldn’t proceed with the exercises, and regrettably, she didn’t have the dictionary with her.

As Gu Qili was scratching her head, she suddenly thought of Mu Shuoqian’s tablet which was probably lying unused in the living room. She hurriedly jumped out of bed, slipped on her slippers, and headed straight for the living room.

Indeed, the tablet he usually used while lounging on the sofa was on the small table.

She walked over joyfully and reached out to grab the tablet.

"Gu Qili." Three chilly words uttered from his thin lips, his voice low yet made her shiver, her hair standing on end.

The tablet in front of her was snatched away, his dark eyes faintly radiating anger, "Who allowed you to touch my stuff?"
