The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship-Chapter 647 - 560 She Went on a Date
Jian Si’s second day at work was still busy. Of course, she was only swamped when Nan Zhan was there; he always had a lot of tasks for her to do.
One morning,
She didn’t rush back to eat lunch until one o’clock, while Fei Fan had already eaten. Seeing Jian Si with her files in a disheveled state, she secretly made a sympathetic grimace at her.
Everyone knew that Dylan was famous for being strict. Although he seldom took cases himself, all the important cases in the law firm had to go through his review. One could imagine how heavy his workload was.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have driven away five or six assistants already.
Today, Jian Si wore high heels because she felt that all the women in the law firm dressed as office ladies, so she couldn’t be in jeans and flat shoes as usual. But she quickly changed her mind and decided to buy a pair of flat leather shoes after work today.
When Jian Si returned, Nan Zhan was also in the office. As soon as she entered, he said without lifting his head: "Make a cup of coffee." He also gestured a five with his hand.
Jian Si learned from the work notes organized by a former assistant that Nan Zhan liked his coffee with an equal ratio of water to milk, 5:5.
After making the coffee, she asked symbolically, "Dylan, have you had lunch?"
"No." Nan Zhan was still busy with work, wearing a white shirt, typing with his long fingers on the keyboard. Because he was looking down slightly, his facial features appeared even more sculpted,
The afternoon sun spilled through the blinds in a spotty fashion, and outside the window was the isolated sound of traffic, while he was as silent as a prince in a sculpture.
For the first time, Jian Si was captivated by a man’s appearance while working, and she watched him, entranced, without realizing it.
"What did you eat?" Nan Zhan suddenly put both hands on the keyboard and looked up at her.
Jian Si was startled for a moment but quickly returned to her normal state: "I just grabbed a couple of Char Siu buns on the way."
Nan Zhan’s fingers interlaced, and he said indifferently, "Call Xiangshan Club, order a few dishes."
Jian Si: "What dishes should I order?" It was always him who decided on the menu; she never volunteered to choose for him to avoid his criticism.
Nan Zhan had already lowered his head to continue working, "Anything with lotus root is fine."
Jian Si had long noticed he liked to eat lotus roots. Once when she made a stir-fry with black fungus and Dutch beans, they were left untouched, but the lotus root slices were eaten clean.
The second time, she did not add other ingredients but just made a simple stir-fried lotus root, and he ate it all.
"The rest, you decide."
Jian Si knew his time was precious, naturally, she wouldn’t bother him with such trivial matters and ordered two other dishes according to his usual preferences.
Half an hour later, the takeaway from Xiangshan Club was delivered.
"Dylan, should we eat now?" Jian Si saw he was still busy and so she asked.
"You eat first, I still have work." Nan Zhan was reviewing documents and had no time for eating.
He wasn’t eating, so Jian Si didn’t start either.
Her office was just outside Nan Zhan’s, separated by a partition without a door, so it was connected. Hence, while working, all she had to do was turn her head to see him through the semi-transparent glass.
After a while, Nan Zhan finally finished his work, and he said, "I’m hungry now, let’s eat."
The two ate in silence. Since that day, he hadn’t brought up the issue of Zhengzheng’s custody again, and she chose silence, just hoping it was just a whim of his and that he would soon forget.
After all, he is the eldest son of the Nan Family from Aus City and the number one lawyer, and he also has a fiancée, so he wouldn’t truly care about having another son.
Thinking of the word fiancée, Jian Si’s chest felt inexplicably congested.
The work at the law firm was busy but fulfilling, and although Jian Si was exhausted every day with back pain, she learned more and more. Most importantly, Nan Zhan was a good teacher, though busy with work,
However, she had gotten used to that long ago.
It was a week later when she received a call from Qian Wei, and Jian Si even took a moment to match Qian Wei’s voice with the face in her mind—he was the one who helped her move last time, a nice bank manager.
"Jian Si, am I interrupting you?" Qian Wei’s voice carried a trace of nervousness.
"No, I’m off today." Jian Si put down the book she was holding, with the warm sunlight falling on the cover, highlighting the words "Principles of Criminal Law".
"I went on a business trip out of town and just got back. Do you have time? Let me treat you to a meal."
Jian Si naturally wanted to decline, as an adult, she understood Qian Wei’s implication—he had a good feeling towards her and intended to pursue her.
"I’m sorry..."
"Jian Si, don’t rush to reject me, it’s really just a meal. I am already downstairs at your place, can you do me the honor?" Qian Wei’s voice had a hint of laughter, without frivolity but full of sincerity.
"If anyone is inviting, it should be me returning a favor for your help last time." Jian Si was not repulsed by Qian Wei, "Then wait a moment, I’ll get ready."
Qian Wei sat in the car downstairs, waiting. Out of boredom, he flipped down the sun visor and checked his reflection in the mirror.
Qian Wei had some confidence in his looks; although not particularly outstanding, his features were well-defined, and he was known as the "bank’s calligraphy" among his colleagues.
After examining himself from different angles, he pushed the visor back up, satisfied. He played some cheerful music and waited for Jian Si to come downstairs.
He was attracted to Jian Si the first time he saw her. Although she spoke little and seemed gentle and quiet, she exuded a calm, water-like aura that was very comfortable.
He liked that kind of girl—unruffled, unpretentious, down-to-earth, and she treated her little brother so well. He presumed she must also be a filial daughter, all of which fit his criteria for a partner perfectly. He believed Jian Si was specially arranged for him by the heavens, and if he didn’t seize this opportunity, wouldn’t he be letting down the divine intention?
Qian Wei adjusted his shirt collar again just in time to see Jian Si hurrying down the stairs.
She wore a light pink knee-length dress with a layer of thin gauze on the outside and a water-blue short sleeve top. As she walked towards him, it was like a refreshing breeze met him.
Qian Wei quickly got out of the car, and gallantly opened the door for her, "Jian Si, you look very beautiful today."
Jian Si hadn’t dressed with particular care, and the clothes were picked at random. Qian Wei’s comment didn’t sound like flattery but a sincere compliment, which was quite pleasing.
"Thank you," Jian Si said with a polite smile. "What would you like to eat? My treat."
"No, I don’t make a habit of letting girls pay for meals. I insist on treating you," he urged Jian Si to get into the car. "Let me continue being a gentleman."
Jian Si smiled and did not persist.

Zhengzheng watched TV for a while, then strolled to the apartment across the hall. Nan Zhan had given him a key, so he could come and go as he pleased.
Today was the weekend, and it was rare for Nan Zhan not to go to the law office.
When he heard the sound of the door opening, he knew immediately who it was.
"What’s for lunch?" Zhengzheng sat down next to him.
Nan Zhan turned his head: "You haven’t had lunch?"
"Mm." Zhengzheng leaned back on the comfortable sofa, lifting his slender legs, "She went on a date."
"Date?" The word made Nan Zhan feel particularly uncomfortable, "With whom?"
"The brother who helped us during the move last time, a decent guy, average-looking, works at a bank, and most importantly, she seems to not dislike him."
With furrowed brows, Nan Zhan thought about that woman laughing and talking with a man she had only known for a few days, and instantly felt irritable.
"I’ll order takeout." Nan Zhan took his phone and went to his own room.
Zhengzheng casually picked up the book he had just read and curled the corner of his lips: "Sneaking off to make a call and calling it a call, when did he become as childish as Jian Si."
While waiting for the dishes, Qian Wei talked to Jian Si about his business trip anecdotes, his witty banter occasionally causing Jian Si to smile demurely.
Around noon, the shop was bustling, and as they waited for their braised pork, Jian Si’s phone rang.
She glanced at it and said, "It’s my boss."
"Then answer it," he urged.
Apologizing, Jian Si took the phone and walked to a quieter area outside the restaurant.
Through the glass, Qian Wei could see her standing at the doorstep, slender and elegant, a pleasing sight. He decided to first cultivate a good rapport with her, then proceed with the pursuit. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Soon, Jian Si finished the call and came back, but instead of taking her seat, she apologized, "Qian Wei, I’m really sorry, the law office has an urgent document that needs to be dealt with. I have to go back now."
Though a bit disappointed, Qian Wei still expressed his support: "This job is hard to come by, and we can eat another day. You should deal with your boss first. I’ll drive you."
"No need, the law office is not far from here, I can walk over." Jian Si still seemed somewhat apologetic, "We’ve ordered so much food, you’ll have to eat alone."
"It’s okay, I can get it packed," Qian Wei joked as he got up: "Your boss is too inconsiderate, at least let people finish their meal."
Inside, Jian Si disagreed. Her boss was more than just inconsiderate—totally unreasonable. Yet, she lived purely by luck.
With an apology to Qian Wei, Jian Si hurried to the law office, where Nan Zhan had said there was an urgent document.
When Jian Si arrived at the law office, the on-duty colleague informed her that there was no urgent document.
She called Nan Zhan to confirm, only to hear the sound of him sipping coffee and speaking in a very relaxed voice, "Oh, I remembered wrong, that document is for tomorrow."
Fuming, yet helpless, Jian Si wasn’t in a position to voice any complaints as she was paid by him. Even if she had complaints, she had to swallow them silently.
